What's the oddest thing DC have asked for, and did they get it?

Years ago DS asked for a yellow suit. Was v young & couldn't describe it but wanted it for months.
I bought him some thermal longjohns & a vest & dyed them bright yellow with dylon along with a pillow case that I attached as a cape. I got some red felt and cut it into his initial & attached it to the front with wonderweb.
He was delighted with it on Christmas morning & then never wore it Confused
DD has asked for a diamond maker this year - I've told her if she manages to get one I'd quite like a few diamonds myself.

DH bought himself a metal detector this year :o

I did manage to find a plastic jellyfish on a trip to The Deep, but it didn't have wheels.

Other boy wrote a note on the school "wishing tree" last year saying "I wish that dormice weren't endangered". So I sponsored him a dormouse as an extra present. I think he was slightly disappointed that you didn't actually get the dormouse that you had sponsored.

DNiece and DNephew (twins, 2.8) want a purple fire engine. Each. Google lists many mad and purple sites. Also many fire engine sites. The two do not ever seem to meet. Have wished SIL luck with that one. Xmas Grin

For any weird animal requests ... I think a sponsored animal ( either wild or in zoo ) plus a soft toy (which may or may not come with the sponsorship) seems a good way forward .... Or you could just get a litter of baby tigers ...

DS2 (3) insists the only thing he wants is a blue car. It's not one he's seen on tv, or at toddler group. It's this big (waves his hand randomly) and goes BBRRRR ZZZZOOOM. I am clueless. He is trusting the magic of Santa. Not sure if it's worse to get no blue car at all or the wrong blue car. DS1 was never like this, he's always quite specific. And lives in the real, boring world with the rest of us.

JugglingWithPossibilities · 01/12/2012 22:47

Ginga - any chance they've got their colours mixed up (at 2.8 yrs) ? Smile

  • Perhaps they're thinking red really ?
mumof4cherubs · 01/12/2012 22:53

My 6 year old asked for a piano, a real one (that's how she phrased it... when I asked what she meant by a real one she replied, one Daddy can't take the batteries out of when I'm practising!

Aerobreaking · 01/12/2012 22:55

yellow how about this if your boy wants a skeleton?

TheFogsGettingThicker · 01/12/2012 23:15

CheeseStrawWars You can get models of gorillas, see here and the male is available as well here and and a baby so a whole family is possible...

Mynewmoniker · 01/12/2012 23:19

Marking my place as I'm loving these Grin. The spirit of Christmas ahhhhh.

steppemum · 01/12/2012 23:20

my dneice (aged 8) wants a zebra this year (not a toy a real one) and she is really not convinced by the argument that you can't keep them as pets

bumpybecky · 01/12/2012 23:31

dd1 asked for a pineapple (fresh) and she got it - it was poking out of the top of her stocking!

she asked for it as she knows I hate it and don't normally buy them, but also knew that if she asked for Christmas I was very unlikely to say no...

the funny bit is what happened next - we go to church on Christmas day and all the children always take their favourite present with them. The vicar always asks them to hold up their present, he asks a a few children questions and then they all parade around the church holding their presents up for everyone to see. Well this year it was the trainee (curate maybe?) and the first child he came to was dd1. He asks to see what she's brought and she waves a pineapple in his face - cue one speechless vicar! Grin and much amusement from the rest of the congregation!

Every year now she gets an 'edible p present'. She's had a tin of peas, a pie (one of those fray bentos ones in a tin!) and a parsnip. Not decided what she's getting this year but I'm tempted by papaya....

fuzzpig · 01/12/2012 23:46

Quite tempted to get some playmobil owls myself - DS doesn't speak well enough to ask for anything, but he is currently obsessed with owls :)

wonderstuff · 01/12/2012 23:58

DS loves trains, well all transport really - so I have booked for us all to go on a local steam train - I excitedly told the children we are going on a steam train (haven't told them Father Christmas is going to be on it too) - like Thomas I said, DD(5) 'is it blue?' 'Not sure' 'Does it talk?' 'no' 'Has it got a face' 'no' - 'I want to go on real Thomas!' DS (2) 'Want go on pink mermaid train underwater'

In fact DS has decided that 'Pink mermaid train underwater' is what he really wants for Christmas. Hmm I don't know where he got the idea from.

Whiteworm · 02/12/2012 00:01

My 2 .5 year old DD wants a fish tank and a secret box

edam · 02/12/2012 00:07

steppe, you can indeed keep zebra as pets. The eccentric millionaire who used to own what is now the Natural History Museum at Tring had a carriage pulled by zebra. I think he was a Rothschild - may be harder to pull off zebra-keeping in a normal suburban semi, mind you!

BrittaPerry · 02/12/2012 00:49

These are gold :-)

I once got a whole pack of chewee bars in my stocking. I was overjoyed :-)

Dryjuice25 · 02/12/2012 02:29

A visit to the queen = dd age 7.

hurricanewyn · 02/12/2012 07:09

Dd1 wants immortality, downside haven't found it even on ebay, upside if we pretended she had it, she wouldn't know until too late. Didn't even tell FC yesterday at school fair any ideas, however he was scrawny with the fakest beard ever

coorong · 02/12/2012 08:38

DD aged 5 wants a "wishing pebble" - have bought one of those shiny rocks from a nutty crystal shop - couple of years ago other DD asked for a fluffy rabbit the on Christmas Eve discovered she'd written to FCC asking for an iMac and zouzhou pet !!!!! Cue late dash to toy shop - not Apple store.

waterlego6064 · 02/12/2012 08:50

These are brilliant. Laughed so much at 'jellyfish with wheels' :)

My DD (7) has asked for 'ribbons and feathers' this year. She will get be getting some!

WhereTheWildOnesSnow · 02/12/2012 09:09

The DC's have asked for fairly normal gifts this year. Although DS(5) has asked for Pringles and Jaffa Cakes and DD (9) has asked for her Nanny to still be alive :( and that she could be a millionaire and help the poorer children.

colleysmill · 02/12/2012 09:20

Ds has announced this week father Christmas is bringing him a pork chop.
