Right - tins of sweets...

In the interests of saving everyone else some time and money, I have already sampled the big three this year Blush. And they are ALL CRAP.

Celebrations - sickly. The twixes don't taste like twixes. And nobody could possibly need that many mini bounties.

Quality Street - chalky and artificial. Only ever snarf these at someone else's house as I avoid buying Nestlé but I don't think I'm missing out on much.

Roses - the fruit centres are meh. And they've taken out all the hard toffees! Why, why, why?!

Christmas is ruined. Ruined!

are you sure you didnt get last years out of date ones?

SoulTrain · 30/10/2012 08:31

One word - heroes.

That is all.

Titsalinabumsquash · 30/10/2012 08:33

I could always use a tiny Bounty, send them all to me! Grin

pumpkinsweetie · 30/10/2012 08:34

The sweets all taste the same imo, but by god have they shrank the boxes and theres less sweets in them!!Angry
Infact we could see the bottom of the tin, not to mention the majority were bloody toffee in the QS and eclairs in the Heroes tin grrr.
I aint bothering this year, waste of cash!
Would rather buy a few large chocolate bars instead!

cornybeefhash · 30/10/2012 08:36

yes I've sampled celebrations already - nasty
heroes are lush though

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 30/10/2012 08:37

I've got an empty tin of QS from last year I think I might just refill it with a few bags of things we all like.

pumpkinsweetie · 30/10/2012 08:40

Good tip WhoKnows, might try that myself Smile

olibeansmummy · 30/10/2012 08:41

No hard toffees you say? I know you we're trying to stop people buying them but that's convinced me to go and get some roses!!

RustyScare · 30/10/2012 08:42

Me too, olibean!

Catsmamma · 30/10/2012 08:44

what happened to the other tins of things??

One year we had terry's chocolate orange segments, and assorted toblerones and mingles

I know I didn't imagine them cos I have kept the tins and use them for storing the christmas decs.

pumpkinsweetie · 30/10/2012 08:45

Mmm terrys choc orange, now they were delish and the tin was actually full & full of decent flavoursGrin

LollopingLil · 30/10/2012 08:47

Catsmamma - you're right. My work is not yet done!

What's in heroes, then? Eclairs are goooooooooood.

Did there really used to be a tin of Terry's? How did I miss that.

Just had two Roses with my breakfast and now I feel sick. :(

The sacrifices I make for you all...

Waitingforastartofall · 30/10/2012 08:53

there is a a box of terrys segments i think, with dark, popping, milk and something else. not a tin an upright half segment shape

Titsalinabumsquash · 30/10/2012 09:07

Eurgh! Terry can keep his chocolate orange heathen
I'm quite fond of a while Christmas tin full couple of fruit pastilles.

Dawndonna · 30/10/2012 09:26

I buy M&S chocs when on special (the ones in the boxes) and put them in a tin. Usually get two boxes for a fiver, it's enough for six of us to pick at.

LollopingLil · 30/10/2012 20:56

Are they nice, Dawn? Do they contain toffees?

OP posts:
Dawndonna · 30/10/2012 22:06

They are, and they do. We've just road tested Sainsbury too. Not bad at all!
[hgrin]

VivaLeBeaver · 30/10/2012 22:13

Tins of mingles are nice but hard to source.

NotmylastRolo · 30/10/2012 22:27

I could survive Christmas with a few (dozen) boxes of Lindor melt in the mouth choccies, and a raid on M&S for Turkish delight, jellies and walnut whips, and a large box of Bendicks after dinner mints. Mingles are yum and DD you are right I can't remember seeing any so far this year. Will keep an eye open for them and grab if I see a box!

I am trying to find some good nut brittle since Thorntons stopped selling it. Can't find it anywhere.

I am giving up on the QS, Roses, Celebration and Heroes tins this year as they are a bit something and nothing.

Pancakeflipper · 30/10/2012 22:30

What about a Ferraro Roche?

My mother has to have her Mon Cheri's for Christmas or she sulks.

I would be perfectly happy with a stocking full of orange creams from a Quality Street tin (in fact I will accept donations from the 25th Dec from all you orange-cream-hater).

NoSoggyBottoms · 31/10/2012 01:51

I love the idea of "road testing" the different chocolates out there!

Roses has never been the same since they changed them dramatically a good few years back.

Never been keen on Quality Street.

We do normally go for Roses and Celebrations. Might look into Heroes this year (but DP loves the snickers, topic and bounties)

NoSoggyBottoms · 31/10/2012 01:52

Pancakeflipper - we always have to have some Ferraro Roche, for that comedy line moment...every year....its getting old....but Christmas wouldn't be the same without it Grin

KinkyandGhoulishDorito · 31/10/2012 08:04

Tins seem to get more shocking each year.

However, Heroes seem to be more available - couldn't get them here last year. They have: dairy milk, eclairs, 'twisted' cream egg chocs, twirls, caramels, fudge.

I still miss the days of things like Fuse and Picnics. All the manufacturers make them cheaper and cheaper, but at the cost of the best ones.
