Right - tins of sweets...

In the interests of saving everyone else some time and money, I have already sampled the big three this year Blush. And they are ALL CRAP.

Celebrations - sickly. The twixes don't taste like twixes. And nobody could possibly need that many mini bounties.

Quality Street - chalky and artificial. Only ever snarf these at someone else's house as I avoid buying Nestlé but I don't think I'm missing out on much.

Roses - the fruit centres are meh. And they've taken out all the hard toffees! Why, why, why?!

Christmas is ruined. Ruined!

I don't buy chocolate at Christmas. Am I odd?

FreakoidOrganisoid · 31/10/2012 08:09

Last year i got sainsburys basics just to fill a big bowl. They were better than quality street imo

tootssweet · 31/10/2012 08:11

We were thinking of starting a campaign at work to bring back the galaxy truffle from celebrations - who honestly wants mini twix instead?

ipswichwitch · 31/10/2012 08:23

I'm devastated they stopped the coffee creams in roses weirdo. I'm the only one in our family who likes them so obviously they get left til last so I can polish them off wen I've eaten lots of the other ones

GwendolineScaryLacey · 31/10/2012 08:23

They got rid of the galaxy truffle? Bastards.

That's it. I'm going to fill a tin with my own selection this year. Knickers to Celebrations.

KinkyandGhoulishDorito · 31/10/2012 08:36

toot I did not know they'd taken out the BEST ONE. Shock

I'm seriously thinking of buying a tube each for the kids and a Christmas selector box from Hotel Chocolat for me

girlywhirly · 31/10/2012 08:41

I think I might try some of the Sainsbury chocs, just as a consumer test of course!

I am also disappointed in the quality and flavour of the usual tins of sweets. They all went downhill when the original manufacturers like Terrys, Mackintoshes, Rowntrees etc got bought up into the big firms. And Cadburys aren't much better.

fuzzpig · 31/10/2012 08:48

What were Fuse bars like? The name rings a bell.

Personally I'm happy with anything vaguely chocolatey. Gotta have chocolate Brazils though (I'll probably get some extra for DH's stocking as they're his favourite)

I also really love those orange and lemon jelly slices and the tropical fruit version but they are really hard to find. My grandma always used to let me have the round one in the middle of the box.

Can I just thank you from the bottom of my heart OP. You are doing such a noble thing :o

fuzzpig · 31/10/2012 08:50

Ooh, Hotel Chocolat. Now there's an idea - and if I go for the fruity filling ones, DH won't touch them with a barge pole and they'll be ALL MINE

storminabuttercup · 31/10/2012 08:54

My favourite chocolates at Christmas are m&s operettas. Like fererrro rocher but small enough to stick them in your mouth whole and no fiddly wrappers!!

shinybaubles · 31/10/2012 09:41

What happened to Mingles I couldn't find them last year, are they still making them? Must have mingles

Mrsrobertduvallsaysboo · 31/10/2012 10:56

Does anyone remember Weekend chocolates? In a box..They eere my mum's favourite in the 60s.

I am in love with Lindt Dark Orange chocolate at the moment...you can keep your nasty tins of QS!!

ByTheWay1 · 31/10/2012 11:12

Lindt - no other chocs required - I put the big one on my Christmas list!!! no chance
www.lindt-shop.co.uk/our-ranges/lindt-pick-and-mix-1.html

You can choose which flavours ... mmmmmmm

KinkyandGhoulishDorito · 31/10/2012 11:59

ByTheWay I wish you hadn't linked to that. Irish cream flavour... I want them all now.

BabylonPI · 31/10/2012 12:03

I saved a tin from last year and will be filling that with the sweets we all like.

I cannot believe how stingy they have got with the tins this year :(

QuenHelle · 31/10/2012 12:08

Someone bought DH a box of the M&S ones last week and we both think they're really nice. The chocolate is much nicer than what they put on Roses or Quality St these days.

There are quite a few toffees in there. Is that a good or bad thing? And too many coffee creams too but the rest are really nice.

We have selected them as our Christmas sweet of choice this year.

parsnipcake · 31/10/2012 12:08

Ooh weekend. I always got a box for Christmas. Though my heart was broken when they stopped making Terry's neapolitans. Jason and the argonauts and the Neapolitans being opened was the start of Christmas in our house.

mamasmissionimpossible · 31/10/2012 12:09

shinybaubles - according to the bendicks website, who make mingles, it says they are no longer making them :(

shinybaubles · 31/10/2012 12:13

Oh no they were my Christmas treat, thanks for letting me know. Now what else might I like....

olibeansmummy · 31/10/2012 12:20

Coffee cremes you say?

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 31/10/2012 12:25

Toffees good, coffees very bad indeed. As for Irish cream, just no!

newpup · 31/10/2012 12:28

We always buy a tin of something to have over Xmas. Last year though, I decided not to bother again, so many were left and they were not actually that nice. QS and roses both disapointing. I do like Celebrations but really do not need a whole tin. I think I will stick with yummy mince pies and a couple of chocolate oranges. I am partial to a small box of Bendicks Mint chocs and Lindor though! Grin Yummy!

NoSoggyBottoms · 31/10/2012 12:50

ipswichwitch - I miss the coffee creme's too!

TwllBach · 31/10/2012 14:24

Oh no.
I bought a tin of roses when they were on an offer in morrisons so if be prepared for the advent calendar we are going to have in class. I haven't touched them for about a month. Do I know have to open it to test them??

ipswichwitch · 31/10/2012 14:37

I would always win at revells roulette :) (remember the ad where they play Russian roulette with a bag of revells??)
