YABU. If you have a big family and a small budget, it helps to start planning now. One of my friends started her shopping today. I'll start mine in September.

NettoSuperstar · 20/07/2012 15:13

I'm not annoyed by it, it just panics me that I have a friend's 30th, another friend's 40th, DD's school residential and her birthday to pay for before then.

BellaVita · 20/07/2012 15:13

As long as it is in the right section, who cares? You obviously.... But I couldn't give a monkeys really.

StrandedBear · 20/07/2012 15:13

That would include you too now Wink

YANBU though, it's madness!!

yellowraincoat · 20/07/2012 15:14

YANBU

Post in Christmas so that I can hide it. If you honestly spend 6 months of the year planning one day, you seriously need to get a grip.

Kayano · 20/07/2012 15:15

It's my babies first Christmas this year and I planned all her gifts when she was one month old lol. (her birthday is only 1 pay period away so needed to plan)

She isn't getting much as she is only one but summer has been so miserable that I'm really looking forward to Christmas lol

JeffTracy · 20/07/2012 15:16

Well, the weather outside is frightful...

Mintyy · 20/07/2012 15:17

See, I can't not care about it Bella and that's why I asked if iabu.

I know I can hide the topic, but that doesn't really help, cos I know its still being discussed Grin.

Loads of things don't bother me, honest, I am v laid back.

But this ... this ... madness just gets to me every year!!

I assume you are joking Kayano?

I had a panto audition at the weekend and the audition song mentioned Christmas a LOT - seemed very odd! Rehearsals don't start till Sept, but then it will be Christmas mode.

naturalbaby · 20/07/2012 15:23

We're over half way through the year, the countdown to misery and strife has begun.

WaitingForMe · 20/07/2012 15:25

My baby is due in mid November and I have no intention of doing anything as ridiculous as go shopping between his birth and Christmas. So it'll all be sorted by the end of October. I'm also roughly half as efficient I was before I was pregnant so I'm getting started now.

I'm quite grateful for the lunatics helpful people.

StuckInTheFensAwayFromHome · 20/07/2012 15:25

The first time I saw it I had an annoyed reaction...
But every year I struggle to think of ideas for nice presents. And it hit me (reading another thread about mumsnet scarves) that when I come across something that would make a nice present I should buy it there and then - because I am bound to forget by Christmas and it means I spread the expense better.
(Which means I have bought a pink birds scarf which will make a perfect gift for either MIL or SIL!)

I think Kayano's post gives you a good reason OP. Sometimes when people have shit time they focus on something to look forward too. People do the same with summer holidays.

Btw i don't do anything until nov.

WillieWaggledagger · 20/07/2012 15:30

i start thinking about next christmas in spring, but I am a knitter

GetOrfMoiiLand · 20/07/2012 15:30

If someone starts posting those godawful DAILY '120 sleeps!' threads I will cry.

Agree please post in christmas so I can hide it until November.

I love and adore Christmas, but christmas shopping should be done in the cold and rain.

Oh. That would be now then. Hmm

yellowraincoat · 20/07/2012 15:35

Really, I think if people need to start spending now they are over-spending.

Start saving now, sure, for food and whatever. If you really need to save up tons for presents, I don't know, I just think it's a bit silly. I would never bankrupt myself over one day.

Ithinkitsjustme · 20/07/2012 15:53

Why? don't you just "wish it could be Christmas everyday"? Grin, at least the thought of it brightens up the bad weather, and it's a more cheerful topic than most we get on here! I'm really excited about Christmas this year as it is the first year that all my siblings will be in the UK for 7 years, and I will be starting my shopping early! (Anyway, I noticed that one of our local shops was selling Christmas Cards this week so it can't be too early!!)

I'm still waiting for summer.

If I started planning Christmas, it is like admitting there will be no summer.

Mintyy · 20/07/2012 16:02

Summer is coming in the next day or two.

OP posts:
AKMD · 20/07/2012 16:05

YABU. The summer sales are on now so it's the perfect time to get present buying done and dusted.

DC2 is also due in October so I'm planning on having all presents bought, wrapped and labeled by the end of September.

Ithinkitsjustme · 20/07/2012 16:06

Well I've managed to dry my washing on the line two days in a row {excited emoticon} so it MUST be Summer Grin

jazzchickens · 20/07/2012 16:07

We'll get 2 days of sunshine in which everyone suddenly puts their pasty bodies into the summer clothes they have just bought in the sale,

And we'll choke to death on barbecue fumes.

I want a proper summer.
