If you honestly spend 6 months of the year planning one day, you seriously need to get a grip.

But it's not one day is it yellow? It's the build up, the budgeting, the gift buying that often needs to be spread over several months to be economical... I love Christmas and I never ever think of it as ONE DAY.

And OP YABU, just hide it, nobody's forcing you to read it or agree.

yellowraincoat · 20/07/2012 16:17

Like I said YouOldSlag (oh god, typing that made me lol, hilarious name) I find it weird that people budget for Christmas. I just can't buy into it that much.

YouOldSlag · 20/07/2012 16:20

When you have a massive family (including my DH's) and numerous nieces and nephews, it just makes sense to buy and budget much earlier than December. It's not obsessing six months early, it's just trying not to bankrupt yourself in one month flat by buying up to 45 presents in December.

yellowraincoat · 20/07/2012 16:22

YouOldSlag, OK, I can't really relate as I don't buy many presents. I just buy for the closest people to me. I'm not into buying for all and sundry. I don't see the point if I'm honest.

At the end of the day, I just wish people would post in Christmas and not all over MN.

YouOldSlag · 20/07/2012 16:24

Fair play. I start getting excited about the 1st November, but I get that not everyone does!

Mind you, with a 2yo and 6yo I am in good company and don't stand out too much when I grin madly in the bauble aisle. Smile

OvO · 20/07/2012 16:36

I've been discussing Christmas on MN already. Grin I did post in the proper topic though. I needed ideas for 24 Christmas books and need time to find them and to spread the cost. So ner.

Plus my horrible children have gone and got November birthdays so I do need to buy early so that I'm not sobbing into my gin come the end of the year.

Sirzy · 20/07/2012 16:40

Dont like it don't read it!

I have got a few bits in already - when I can get something I planned on buying at less than half price of course I will buy it now.

yellowraincoat · 20/07/2012 16:47

It's hard not to read the 5 million CHRISTMAS titled threads.

I don't normally care about what topic stuff is in, but there is a specific Christmas topic so why not use it?

RaisinDEtre · 20/07/2012 16:49

I fucking love Christmas

ANNNNNND

Christmas In July next week on QVC, huzzah

Sirzy · 20/07/2012 16:50

I read plenty of thread titles which don't interest me. It takes a split second to think "nah" and look at the next one.

ariadneoliver · 20/07/2012 16:55

Get into the spirit here

yellowraincoat · 20/07/2012 16:55

But it is everywhere Sirzy.

Everybloodywhere. I just don't want to SEE the word Christmas til November, at least.

Olympia2012 · 20/07/2012 16:55

Look, the official. 'run up' to Christmas starts tomorrow with the release of the new Argos catalogue!! Did you not know?

The Olympia household will be poring over the toy section in the catalogue this time tomorrow, let the list making begin!

GetOrfMoiiLand · 20/07/2012 17:09

I love Argos catalogues.

I am 34 and still go straight to look at the toys.

I have thought about Christmas and done some shopping, buying when I see what someone would like.

I'm starting to think about what i will do at Christmas because I live alone and have never had a Christmas alone before. I will never ask someone to have me to theirs and fear that I would not be able to cope with an influx myself.

RuleBritannia · 20/07/2012 17:14

Not i. I meant I.

RebeccaMumsnet · 20/07/2012 17:16

We have moved this to the Christmas topic now because we thought it would be funny this is unacceptable in July.

am not thinking about Christmas yet but wouldn't judge those who are doing...if you don't like it, don't read it ......... simples

Olympia2012 · 20/07/2012 17:22

We moved into a new house in march.... Our first family discussion/argument was where we would put the Christmas tree!

New neighbours drinks evening last week ( new build estate so we are all new)..... Main topic of conversation was who would be the competition for best lit house!!!

GinAndStoic · 20/07/2012 17:35
