Honestly, when are your DCs allowed out of bed on Christmas day?

Just curious really. In our house there's a no one gets out of bed until 7 o'clock rule and it amazes me that friends let their children get up at 4:30 to open presents! When do you let your DCs get up?

8am is probably the earliest here, had to wake DD up last year at 9:30!

No way I would even entertain anytime before 7, thats still the middle of the night!

nancy75 · 23/12/2011 22:56

usually at about 6/6.30

NeverKnowinglyUnderstood · 23/12/2011 22:58

7 here but the last couple of years we have had to wake DS1 because they end up going to sleep later on Christmas eve

Hulababy · 23/12/2011 22:59

7 o'clock - that's the earliest.

Dh is normally the first to wake up. He is like a big kid! Then we wait til DD (now 9y) comes in to our room. Was a bit later than that last year, but 7am is the earliest allowed.

peeriebear · 23/12/2011 22:59

7 o clock here, but sometimes they don't wake up until half 8 or later :)

Probably at about 5 oclock - but thats the time that my DD (2yo) wakes up every day. Ds's will be up at about 6.

JollySantaJackrum · 23/12/2011 23:05

When we were kids it was 7am. I was always up first. My (ten years younger) sisters usually had to be woken.

I expect DS (8 months) will be up at 5:30 if current form continues.

catchafallingstar · 23/12/2011 23:06

Allowed?!
Any time after 7 but up until now we have had to wake them (5&7).

However ds wants to put his stocking out tomorrow morning (just in case he misses him)- suspect we may be getting up early this year!!

helpmabob · 23/12/2011 23:07

As mine wake up on a normal day at 6am I can't really expect to last much longer on xmas day of all days. It seems as if many of you have older kids anyway which makes it easier to stay in bed longer.

whomovedmychocolate · 23/12/2011 23:08

Unless I use a lot of gaffer tape they'll get up when they blardy well like - just like every day! But there will be no presents till Mummy has had coffee.

ShowOfHands · 23/12/2011 23:09

DD naturally sleeps till 8.30am ish. But I'd let her up whenever she liked tbh.

Anytime from 5 is fine. But there's no way on god's little earth I'd be waking children up on Christmas morning

LaDiDaDi · 23/12/2011 23:12

Same time as every day. Ds will start trying to wake the rest of us up from 6am onwards. Dd will tell him to "Go away Ds, it is night time and I am tired" until she realises that Santa has been. Hoping not to have to get out of bed until 7am.

OvoNotBrusselSproutsAgain · 23/12/2011 23:13

Whenever they wake. So middle of the night. I can't complain as my parents used to barely get to bed before I'd be up and asking if Santa had been!

DH doing a night shift Christmas eve and will arrive home at about 8:30 Christmas morning. First year DD really "gets" Christmas so will aim to keep her upstairs until DH arrives so we can both be there when she first sees her presents under the tree.

If that works it'll be a bloody Christmas miracle though Hmm

Sillyoldelf · 23/12/2011 23:42

Usually wake about 4am to open stockings then they go back to bed and we all have a lie in . I love it . I can't stand being awake before them on christmas day , it's not right !

lucysmam · 23/12/2011 23:46

My oldest gets up about half 7 ish usually and wakes the youngest so am expecting the same tbh.........unless dd1 has been super excited by doing xmas preparations at nanas of course Hmm

FizzyChristmasFairyDust · 23/12/2011 23:47

I am usually the first one awake, much to my annoyance, but then I do have teenagers.....

minceorotherwise · 23/12/2011 23:50

Gosh, amazed you have a choice! We have no say in the matter, but to be fair our dc's are in charge in our house most of the time

FrankincenseStellaAndFries · 23/12/2011 23:54

We have a 7am rule here after the one Christmas we spent at the inlaws and they encouraged the kids in waking up and asking for presents at 2am, they thought I was unreasonable to send them back to bed!!!

We've already had one Christmas day this week at the inlaws and mil let them lay in until 7.30 before waking them (and us) all up. Dd4 (3) was most unamused.

GrownUpBelievesInSanta · 23/12/2011 23:55

Nobody downstairs until 7am.

Flisspaps · 23/12/2011 23:56

Anything before 6am is nighttime in my house whatever the date.
