Honestly, when are your DCs allowed out of bed on Christmas day?

Just curious really. In our house there's a no one gets out of bed until 7 o'clock rule and it amazes me that friends let their children get up at 4:30 to open presents! When do you let your DCs get up?

So far they've not got up very early. About average, 7am or so. Stockings and the few other FC gifts are opened in our bed anyway.

I think it may be even later this year, since finishing her first school term DD has been sleeping in a lot as she's knackered, and we've been invited out to SIL's on Xmas eve (still trying to figure out how to fit in the elves' delivery of PJs!) so I'm not predicting a massively early start.

Mind you DD (4.6 today) is more excited than she's ever been so who knows?

AmaraDresden · 24/12/2011 11:19

Anytime after 6am, last year was about 6.30 but I was already awake waiting for them both to open their pressure. However I expect it'll be more like 7.30 this year as ds2 is dp tired after starting school that he no longer wakes up so early. I may end up trying to wake them subtly, don't think I'll be able to lie in bed for that long!

I dont think my dc have realised yet that Chritsmas Day is an excuse to get up early thankfully so we just get up at their normal waking up time which during school holidays is about 8. Fingers crossed no change tommorow.

CherrysOnTheNaughtyList · 24/12/2011 15:57

i am always the first awake, usually about 6am. i get up, have a coffee then get the kids up around 6.30-7am. last year however, i was up until 3am sorting everything out, and the girls were at their dads. the boys woke me up at 9.30 am.

insanityscratching · 24/12/2011 18:01

None of mine (eldest 24) have ever got up before 8am on Christmas morning.Youngest dd loves her sleep and is unlikely to wake before 9am. It's torture for me being a chronic insomniac lying awake from 4am. Usually I go downstairs and enjoy the peace but can't Christmas morning as I need to stay upstairs to allow them to check he's been first.

jellybeans · 24/12/2011 20:31

8.30am

jellybeans · 24/12/2011 20:33

No way would I ever start before 8 either! We often are up all night with DS3 and luckily mine are all a lazy lot and not usually up till 8-10am if no school etc.

My DCs (4 and 2) have only just gone to sleep at about 10pm. We were at SILs, they got in their elf jammies (delivered early) and were straight to bed. They've never stayed up that late before! Will be interesting...

TheAvocadoOfWisdom · 24/12/2011 22:27

0630 - rule for every day of the year. If my bedroom light is on earlier they're allowed to enquire quietly if it's okay to get up, and they are trained to go back to bed if I say it's not.

MoreBeta · 24/12/2011 22:32

Well they are 9 and 11 now so they have been given strict instructions not to disturb us before 7.30.

Haziedoll · 25/12/2011 12:43

Ds1 woke up at 7.00 and I could hear him fumbling with his stocking moaning that at 7.00 he should be allowed to get up and open his presents. He was allowed to come into our room I don't know why he thought he wasn't. He doesn't normally have any qualms about disturbing our sleep! Grin

Ripeberry · 25/12/2011 13:08

Well the kids were up at 1.30am thinking it was time to get the presents (we'd just gone to bed!), cue tears about having to go back to bed. But they did not get up until 9am, so quite a nice lie-in Smile

inmysparetime · 25/12/2011 13:45

6am to open stockings, downstairs at 7am, one present each before breakfast, then one before they get dressed, the rest after that.

EustaciaVye · 25/12/2011 15:16

Mine were up at 4.30 today!

I had always said 7am but they were sooooo excited. They were thrilled with their presents from Santa and have had to wait until now to open their presents from the family. They are holding out brilliantly (so far) and I am expecting an early night :)

lljkk · 25/12/2011 17:40

Officially I said don't bother me until 7:30 & I think they would have stuck to it but for unknown reason half of us were awake by 5:30 & roaming house by 6:30.

insanityscratching · 25/12/2011 19:35

As predicted we got up just after 9am Grin

Methe · 25/12/2011 19:39

The Dc were told that they are not allowed to go downstairs untill it's light!

DD (7) was awake about 7.30 and came in for a cuddle. We woke DS (3)at about 0815 and came down together.

GrownUpBelievesInSanta · 25/12/2011 21:23

We had a nice lie in until 8:15. So I didn't even need to enforce my 7am rule.

andaPontyinaPearTreeeeee · 25/12/2011 23:39

DD came running in shouting "FC was here!", I got up bleary eyed to discover it was 8:20 :) her little brother didn't get up for another half hour.

Debs75 · 27/12/2011 08:57

dd2 woke up at 7.30 but needed a bit of prompting before she realised it was christmas. When she realised she went to get dd1 up and we went downstairs to open presents.
DS woke up at about 8.15 and tore through his presents in about 90 seconds. A big change from a few years ago when he still had some presents to open on the 29th
DD3 was awake by 9.00 and opened a few before DD2 was sick and went back to bed. SHe opened the rest after I had settled DD2 and all presents were done by 10.30

Apart from DD2 being sick we had a great day and the kids loved all their presents.

rhondajean · 27/12/2011 17:56

Usually about 8 am but the rule is definitely not before 7. I keep them up on Xmas eve :-)

Beamur · 27/12/2011 17:57

My 4 yr old didn't wake up until after 9am and then we had to remind her to go and check her stocking!
