Honestly, when are your DCs allowed out of bed on Christmas day?

Just curious really. In our house there's a no one gets out of bed until 7 o'clock rule and it amazes me that friends let their children get up at 4:30 to open presents! When do you let your DCs get up?

Plonker · 24/12/2011 00:00

I'd say anytime after 6.00.

They usually wake around 7/7.30ish ...

SantaAteAllTheBiscuits · 24/12/2011 00:08

Up til last year we had to wake them at 9 30/10 but last year dd they woke at 7 which is early enough for me! Any earlier and i'd probably tell them it's still night and to go back to bed

LordOfTheFlies · 24/12/2011 00:20

Last year, I told the DCs they could get up til a respectable hour.
DS (now 12 yo) said "And what do you class as a respectable hour, Muvver?" Xmas Shock
They are allowed to open their stockings when they wake.(And they tried to be soooo quiet when they unwrapped them. Sweet.

The pesky fire alarm went off for some reason, DH went to check, it was the battery (going low power) Phew. This was 4.30 am.

So this year we have a fibre optic tree on a timer. Will switch off the optional HoHoHo Merry Christmas sound.

And we are going to put wrapping paper on the living room doorway for them to burst through. Must remember to leave the door open Xmas Grin

StealthPolarBear · 24/12/2011 00:25

364 days of the year DH growls "go back to sleep" if they make a noise before 7.30 (unless I'm there and have got up with them).
On Christmas day he sets his alarm for 5. He is then on the alert from then until he hears the slightest noise at which he leaps out of bed shouting IT'S CHRISTMAS!!!
I think he is reliving his childhood somewhat.

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 24/12/2011 00:28

I put the beano annuals in their stockings to get a few more minutes Xmas Blush

Haziedoll · 24/12/2011 00:38

Their usual get up time is 7 but we would allow from 6 on Christmas day. The boys have been sleeping in this week, I have had to wake them between 8-9 so will be interesting to see if they sleep in.

MmeBucket · 24/12/2011 01:11

Any time after 6:30. I'm awake several hours earlier, because I'm so excited about watching them open their presents, but DH won't let them up any earlier.

olibeansmummy · 24/12/2011 07:14

Whenever ds wakes up Smile

spicyorange · 24/12/2011 07:32

anytime after 6 am in my house Xmas Smile. Cannot wait sooo excited.

Kellogg · 24/12/2011 07:39

She can get up when she wants, usually about 8:30. We don't open presents until after dinner anyway.

sweetsantababy · 24/12/2011 07:50

Anytime, usually between 6 and 7. I will be going back to bed in afternoon.

OhFraktiousTree · 24/12/2011 07:56

Anything before 6.30 is night. DS (8mo) wanted to get up at 6.25 this morning but was persuaded otherwise. I, of course, am now awake and pinned to the bed. Tomorrow I would be a little more flexible and wake DH as divine retribution

Deafworm · 24/12/2011 08:00

We were going to get them up at around half 5 as sil lives with us and was meant to be in work for 7 but she's been told she cango in for lunchtime so not before 7 as every other day I think unless I get too excited

HecateGoddessOfTwelfthNight · 24/12/2011 08:02

allowed out of bed?

Are you off your rocker? Grin

I'm awake off and on all night and finally give up all pretence that I can sleep at about 5am [big kid emoticon] I go and (noisily) make a cup of coffee and put the tv on (leaving the door open).

If that doesn't work, I use the loo next to their bedroom (even though there's one downstairs) and flush the chain with the door open.

If that doesn't work, I loudly cough outside their bedroom door.

By this time, Himself is awake and sniggering at me for being such a kid about christmas again. Grin

And if that doesn't work, all subtlety is gone and I burst into their bedroom yelling "It's CHRISTMAS!!"

sunnyday123 · 24/12/2011 08:11

dds usually wake between 7-8am so if they wake anytime after 6 (allowing for excitement!) i will let them do presents

Eggrules · 24/12/2011 08:26

'Not allowed to get up until 7am' is the everyday rule.

DS is 5 this year and a bit more aware of what is going on. Hoping we don't have to wake him.

Lordoftheflies - I am thinking of pinching the wrapping the door idea Xmas Grin

Last year mone were up at 2 am. They got short shrift though and were sent back to bed till 7. Finally caved in at 6 after half an hourly updates on the time from them...

They have been told this year to not wake anyone else up till 7. I live in hope. Grin

Trills · 24/12/2011 09:59

Showy wheni/f I have children I need you to teach me how to have one who will sleep until 8.30! :o

Letchlady · 24/12/2011 10:15

Mine are told 8, but in reality I'm prepared to get up any time after 7. Last year, dd1 woke early and so sat reading a book quietly to herself (she was 7) waiting for everyone else to wake up so she could open her presents. I woke up at 7:30 and had to wake DD2 (then 4). We'll see what tomorrow brings Grin

Lynli · 24/12/2011 10:19

DS will stay asleep until I wake him, probably at 8.00. Strange child.

bigTillyMincepie · 24/12/2011 10:20

When they were little, 7am-ish. Now we are I am up before themXmas Grin

AwayinaKayzr · 24/12/2011 10:21

About 5am Xmas Grin I don't want them out of bed before 7 any other day of year but its Christmas!! I will be waking them at 6 if they aren't up.

perplexedpirate · 24/12/2011 10:25

7 at the absolute earliest. What's with starting Christmas in the middle of the night? Aren't you shattered by lunchtime?

Debs75 · 24/12/2011 10:25

About 7am here, although DD3 will probably stay in bed till 9am(she is only 16m and likes her sleep)
DD1 once woke up at 3am and opened all her presents without us. We were woke up by Busted blaring out from her new stereo at 3.30Xmas Angry. We were not amused.
DD2 is 3 and has completely got into the christmas spirit so she may try for an early morning
