Well i have had a fab afternoon, after joining pininterest yesterday i found a pic of Lemon Sugar Hand Scrub & i have made 2 jars of this,1 of Lemon & 1 of Lemon & Lavender.
They smell bloody gorgeous & look fab,now i just need to work out who to give them to Hmm

chirpchirp · 01/09/2011 16:44

Good going! That seems to be the good thing about Pinterest....you actually MAKE the things rather than just bookmarking them and totally forgetting about them. I've been making Christmas cards with DS's foot prints today and have cut out felt diamond in order to sew them on to hoodies to make "dino hoodies" for a friend's little one.

after a bit of research have decided to ditch the idea of wham bar vodka in favour of Glaicer fruits vodka. Will let you know how they work out.

DoingTheBestICan · 01/09/2011 16:51

Wham bar vodka sounds bloody gorgeous!

I am going to have a go at that & your cards sound divine.

chirpchirp · 01/09/2011 17:36

That's what I thought but apparenty it doesn't work too well. Sod it! You reaffirmed my initial thought that it would be awesome, I'm going to go and make it now as I'd already bought Wham bars and in this house there is ALWAYS vodka in the fridge!

BabyDubsEverywhere · 01/09/2011 17:42

Chirp, how are you making the Wham Vodka? I want to do Thortons Toffe Vodka for gifts but Im making it up as i go along and some advice would be great :)

Sorry BabyDubs I'm just winging it too! I just put four snapped up wham bars and a half bottle of vodka into a jar, covered and have put in the back of a cupboard, I'm hoping in a few days it will have all disolved. My plan then is to strain it through a muslin to get rid of any scum, then put into bottles and put in the freezer. This is basically the tutorial for skittle vodka but substituted with wham bars.

Next up - Worthers vodka!

GrownUpNow · 01/09/2011 18:13

Marking place, my Christmas stuff starts at the end of September when my birthday is over and done with. Loving pinterest... joining asap.

(posting this on the right thread now Blush

imnotforty · 01/09/2011 18:18

some great ideas on here. going blackberry picking tomorrow, I normally make jam but I love the thought of the vodka.

UnwillingFlesh · 01/09/2011 18:54

Lemon sugar hand scrub sounds lovely. I've made nutella cupcakes from Pinterest which have very little to do with Christmas but were very nice anyway!

I don't know if I'm being a bit thick but what is a wham bar? I'm going to try making the Christmas pudding vodka I think.

Oh and I'm going to try the dino hoody for my friends little boy too chirp chirp so let me know how you get on.

BabyDubsEverywhere · 01/09/2011 19:07

Does anyone know if Christmas pudding Brandy is do-able?

OP posts:
DoingTheBestICan · 01/09/2011 19:12

I made the Christmas pudding vodka last yr & it was simple to make & i believe tasted divine (tee-total so didnt actually have any)

I'm going to get mine started in a few weeks, the only tip i would give you is sieve it quite a few times as the sediment looks unsightly if left in.

chirpchirp · 01/09/2011 19:52

Unwilling I'm guessing you were not a child in the eighties if you don't know what a wham bar is! :) Bright pink sickly sweet bar of sugar dotted with space dust and so sticky you could put up shelves with it.

The dino hoodies are really simply, I've already made one for my DS but had a loads of compliments on it from friends (and strangers - a group of Japanese tourists accosted us during the edinburgh festival and lined up to ask if they could have their picture taken with "dino baby" Confused! ha ha)

I definitely want to try the Christmas pudding vodka. DoingTheBest is it good to make it way in advance to allow it to "mull" if that the right word.

GrownUpNow · 01/09/2011 20:16

Trying to find a knitting pattern that would make a hat small enough to put on a standard mug, for hot chocolate mixes. Anyone got any ideas where to find something like that?

just marking my place.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 01/09/2011 21:08

Evening.

I have blueberry, marshmallow, curlywurly and cucumber vodkas on the go.

I am going to start the christmas pudding vodkas next week.

DoingTheBest, could you please post the "recipe" for the hand scrub please, sounds divine. Smile

I made the candy cane bark last year - but did it with a layer of white, followed by a layer of dark and then the crushed canes. It went down a treat.

chirpchirp · 01/09/2011 21:27

Ooooh Marshmallow vodka sounds yummy! Think I'll add that one to my list! Might give the peppermint bark a whizz too.

WhatWouldLeoDo · 01/09/2011 21:37

I am loving this thread (and the other home made threads in the Christmas topic). I keep meaning to make some Christmas gifts but this year I've actually started buying supplies. So far I'm planning Christmas pudding vodka, peppermint bark and cinnamon and honey butter.

I might have to get myself signed up to pininterest though...

Bluetinkerbell · 01/09/2011 21:39

how long does the peppermint bark stay good for?

DoingTheBestICan · 01/09/2011 21:39

I'm not sure it even qualifies as a recipe it is that easy to make,

20oz of sugar
8 fl oz of Virgin Olive Oil
4 tbsp of lemon oil

Mix well & this makes 2 good sized jars.

I made half with just lemon & the other half with lemon & lavender oil. Both smell gorgeous & i noticed on the TV earlier its BOGOF on Olive Oil in Tesco.

Sorry cant remember who asked about making the Christmas Pud Vodka early,i made mine last yr around Oct time & it was fine, the flavours really took on & it smelt so Christmassy.

Loving the idea of curly wurly vodka! I have made up some cola cube vodka today, looking forward to seeing how it goes Wink

chirpchirp · 02/09/2011 10:06

I know it's early but I just dipped my finger in the wham bar vodka and it tastes great! Those fools online don't know what they're talking about it. Girls dino hoodie finished and have ordered some christmas cards to be printed with a photo of my little boy playing with fairy lights. The picture I'm using is on my profile if anyone wants to have a look.

Bettymum · 02/09/2011 11:22

chirpchirp that is such a beautiful photo! It's going to make gorgeous cards. If I tried to do that with my DS I'd have a photo of him grinning maniacally whilst trying to eat the lights Grin. He'd probably electrocute himself.
Got very cross with DH last night as he's been drinking the vodka that I got for making presents with! Wherever I hide stuff he sniffs it out Angry. Better get some more flavoured stuff on the go as he doesn't touch that whilst it's "marinating".
