marking a place, I will be making cards again this year (not that the family are ever gracious about them Hmm) and will try to get DH to make fudge!

I've requested a pinterest board, eeeek somewhere else to spend time online!

BestLaidPlans · 31/08/2011 18:01

Another Pinterest fan here. Sadly I won't be able to make half of the things on my boards because I spend all the baby's nap times on Pinterest and Ravelry instead of actually doing the making.

However, the plan is:
*Coffee baskets - coffee plant (Aldi 99p), mugs with knitted mug cosies, homemade Baileys and fudge.
*Basket with flavoured spirits, shot glasses and fudge
*Lemon plant (again Aldi), homemade limoncello and fudge
*Various scarves, gloves and hats.

Apparently the theme this year is booze and fudge.

FayKnights · 31/08/2011 18:01

How have I never heard of Pinterest? I definitely won't be getting much else done now! I love the Oreo snowmen, actually I love all of it.

DoingTheBestICan · 31/08/2011 18:17

You naughty girls, fancy showing me pin interest? Thats me definitly not getting any work done tomorrow now.

Just requested an invite & am on waiting list,i hope its not too long...

chirpchirp · 31/08/2011 18:45

The waiting lists can take a while - just PM me your email address and I'll send you an invite so you can get straight on.

BestLaidPlans Your coffee basket sounds great. I'd love that.

UnwillingFlesh · 31/08/2011 18:54

I requested an invite to Pinterest on Thursday last week and it came through on Saturday so the waiting list might be ok.

Best laid plans I'm doing chocolate covered spoons in coffee baskets but hadn't thought of the actual plants.

For the spirits, what are you supposed to mix it all up in? And do you have to sterilise the bottles or will the vodka do that for you?

welliesandpyjamas · 31/08/2011 19:13

Great thread :)

Love the pinterest ideas

I have tons of beads from all my grandmother's old necklaces, which my ds1 and I are going to (re)make them in to bangles and necklaces for reelatives who knew her when she was alive.

Also going to let the kids paint on fabric and frame the (decent) results for grandparents Grin

DoingTheBestICan · 31/08/2011 19:14

Just had my invite to join pin interest, now i know this might sound dim but how do you put things on your page? Blush

DoingTheBestICan · 31/08/2011 19:15

Unwillingflesh - i just made my vodka in pop bottles, they were fine.

HerdOfTinyElephants · 31/08/2011 19:27

Hugh F-W's spiced nuts are fantastic... here

TimeForCake · 31/08/2011 19:46

Those patties with chorizo seasoning sound delicious too, herd. Making my mouth water just thinking about them!

JetLi · 31/08/2011 20:32

Lovely idea wellies Smile

I am keeping an eye out for broken/cheap jewelry to re-thread into Christmas decorations or nice tassle affairs for gifts.

OOOOOHHHHH but the weather outside is frightful,
But the fire is sooooo delightful
And since there's no place to goooo...

...join in when you are ready Blush

Bluetinkerbell · 31/08/2011 21:45

haha JetLi I was humming Christmas songs this afternoon Grin

LoveInAColdClimate · 31/08/2011 22:05

Oh no, why have I discovered Pintrest!? And I haven't even had my invitation yet, I have just filled up my favourites with links! Does it take a few days for an invitation to arrive, then? Already so excited about Christmas and homemade fun.

AmaraDresden · 31/08/2011 22:24

I've started doing little embroidered felt tree decs, everyone will be getting a gingerbread man with the year embroidered on it from us!

I'm doing a few baskets, will be putting a variety of things depending on the person, like DSIL I will do handcream, christmas pudding vodka, blackberry jam, lip balm, some nice teabags and an amazon voucher. DB will probably get some other vodka, nice coffee, Lynx shower gel (bought a load for £1 each from Boots!), lip balm, and amazon voucher. I already have the baskets so that's cheap as I used to store cloth nappies in them!

I will be doing the felt decs with children's names on them and I'll then buy a nice book for all the children.

Surprised how easy the decs are and they look really nice!

Colourarc · 31/08/2011 23:01

some great ideas on here, I'm going to have to up my game Hmm

the most I've thought of atm is cutting up some card toppers . . . the theme does seem to be boozy & fudgy . . . Grin might join in with that!

Colourarc · 31/08/2011 23:03

Just checked my e-mail and I've got a Pinterest Acct - not too much of a wait - hints and tips welcome Confused

Eddas · 31/08/2011 23:09

pinterest has lost me HOURS over the last few days Blush I am now planning on making felt decoartions etc etc Grin I have yet to tell dh what i've been doing with the hours on the internet, if I tell him looking at christmas decorations he will think I have gone insane Grin

ChaosTrulyReigns · 31/08/2011 23:17

This thread is a revelation for me.

Thanks folks.

Smile

Could one of you invite me to pinterest please?

HippyHippopotamus · 01/09/2011 07:51

chaos PM me your email address and I'll whizz an invite over to you

I have to thank you all for your early Christmas enthusiasm! I usually get to mid-December and think shit, if only I had more time I'd have made x y and z. This year I have no excuses!

UnwillingFlesh · 01/09/2011 09:07

Oh wellies that's a lovely idea.

DoingthebestIcan, just browse around Pinterest and when you see something you like click repin. It will ask you which of your boards you want to put it on. If you go to "goodies" in the help section you can download a bookmark so that whatever website you are on you can click on things and it magically puts it on your pin boards.

Glad I'm not the only one humming Christmas songs too. Oh and this week when dh has asked if I'm on mumsnet again I've been able to say no quite a few times ... Because I'm on Pinterest!

Greige · 01/09/2011 11:06

Drat you, evil women! You've not only introduced me to a new obsession (like I need another) BUT I had to sign up to Facebook to access it. There goes my smug moral high ground! I was going to share my recipe for honey roast almonds but I don't know if you deserve it now (or if I'll have time between pinning pretty pics and setting up profiles... and god knows when I'll get a chance to feed the children):o

HippyHippopotamus · 01/09/2011 11:22

just feed the children honey roast almonds... job done!

I'm sure I deserve the recipe now i've given you such a good idea Grin

Bettymum · 01/09/2011 11:35

Another Christmas crafter here, I normally take a week off work at the end of November to try and finish everything.
Last year I made fleece hat and scarf sets for all my nieces and nephews, knitted a scarf for SIL, and made sloe gin for all the men Grin.
This year I've got blackberry vodka on the go already and think I'll try and do more, I also want to have a go at the christmas pudding vodka.
I did hampers one year for my dad and FIL, I put marmalade, biscotti and nice tea bags in for them. Biscotti came with a health warning to dunk them before eating as they were a bit toothbreaking crunchy.
(Quick wave to rumpleteaser :))
I might try the home made candles this year...

Kveta · 01/09/2011 14:18

can i just ask, have a few of you started following my christmas board in recent days? because i seem to have a acquired a few new followers and am getting all big-headed about how awesome my board must be, before realising it's probably just from this thread :o

I am now also going to be doing spice mixes as gifts, i think - I've seen some wee tins for wedding favours on the confetti website and think those with spice and herb mixes inside would be perfect gifts for my sister and for my FIL who both live abroad - need something lightweight to post! plus which, DSis is a professional felt artist/knitter, so anything for her has to be not-arty, as she will be unimpressed with my hopeless attempts at crafting!

I think the bit i'm most excited by is making the labels for all the jars and tins now! planning to do a lot of printing :o
