Just wondering what I he could have instead.

Maybe a glass of Baileys and something sweet from M&S? Any recommendations?

Last year we left him out a bottle of wine with a glass so he could help himself to one drink but when we got up in the morning the whole bottle had gone (the greedy swine)
so this year he is getting a glass of orange and a mince pie plus a carrot for Rudolph

GwennieF · 22/12/2010 12:38

Chez GwennieF Santa always has a slice of porter cake (Guinness based fruitcake) and a large whiskey. He shares this with all the reindeer, to keep them warm. They don't need to worry about drink driving - they're magic and also unlikely to meet any traffic up there!

Iklboo · 22/12/2010 12:39

Father Christmas is left a JD & coke. Mrs Christmas helps him so she gets a JD & coke too. Plus we leave Mr Kipling fruit pies and DS has already chosen the carrot for Rudolph.

When my sister and I were small we suggested leaving milk and a carrot out, but Dad thought that Santa might prefer a can of Tennants and a chocolate biscuit so we always did that instead. After all, Santa was a man and Dad was a man, so it made perfect sense that Santa would like the same sorts of things as Dad liked Grin

When it was the first 'real' Xmas where my daughter understood what was going on, nearly three, I asked her what she wanted to leave out for Santa. I told her we would leave out a Malt Whisky for Santa and a carrot for Rudolph. I expected her to say she wanted to leave a mince pie for him to eat (why, I don't know- she had never even seen a mince pie in her life!), but she said she wanted to leave out some 'macamoni cheese'.

Every year I used to have to make 'macamoni' (from scratch- none of that tinned stuff for my girls), and we left it outside for Santa. My husband had to take a small taste of congealed pasta- but he did have the Malt to wash it down with!

All this has passed now- my two are now officially 'non-believers', but I asked them if they still wanted to leave something out and both of them said 'yes'! Kids eh?

dannyblanchflower · 22/12/2010 12:59

We still leave out a pork pie - legacy of DD mishearing mince pies 12 years ago! He also has a can of Boddingtons and a carrot for Rudolph.

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 22/12/2010 13:03

Carrot for reindeer, mince pie for the big guy and a glass of lemonade

dockate · 22/12/2010 13:15

Whisky and a mince pie for our Santa, and a carrot for the reindeer. Plus the children (DS 7, DD 3) always draw Santa a picture so he can put it up and think of them(!) and they leave their letters to him.

wfrances · 22/12/2010 13:28

milk and mince pie for santa and a carrot for the reindeer.

AddictedtoCheese · 22/12/2010 14:14

Growing up we used to leave out a glass of milk and a bag of cheese crisps Confused. Funny that my dad is teetotal and hates all Christmas-type foods - we really were easy to fool.

This is our first year of the ds's getting it so we have yet to decide - I feel strangely excited about choosing something Hmm

BelligerentYhoULE · 22/12/2010 14:14

Gwennie loving the sound of porter cake - dp would like that!

Poor Santa having to drink milk in all these houses - gah. EVERYONE knows that he is so amazing that he can eat and drink whatever he wants and never get any drunker, any fatter or any older. :)

Here he gets a mince pie and a slice of Christmas cake plus a brandy and/or Baileys.

wahwahwah · 22/12/2010 14:15

Bottle of Port. I bet the greedy bugger drinks it all too!

KnitterNotTwitter · 22/12/2010 14:18

glass of port, mince pie and a carrot

mamasmissionimpossible · 22/12/2010 14:19

On Netmums, It says that you should leave out marshmallow for Mrs Claus and smarties for the elves, as well as a mince pie and hot chocolate for FC.

taffetazatyousantaclaus · 22/12/2010 14:21

oh Netmums! I like their style ( pigs ) Xmas Wink

drfayray · 22/12/2010 14:26

Santa gets a small whiskey and a shortbread biscuit while the Reindeer get a carrot. I have to gnaw at the carrot as dog refuses. She seems to prefer the shortbread though scattering crumbs everywhere! DH gets the whiskey. I seem to have the short straw here!

headfairy · 22/12/2010 15:50

ds has really got in to Father Christmas needs a wee so bless him, he said we shouldn't leave a drink out for him in case he's desperate, I suggested we could leave his old potty by the tree for FC to use and ds was really taken by that idea, I'm going to leave a little bit of apple juice in it for the morning so ds thinks FC has actually had a wee in it Xmas Grin

taffetazatyousantaclaus · 22/12/2010 16:21

headfairy - water it down a little otherwise Santa may appear a little dehydrated, maybe from all the sherry

goingroundthebend4 · 22/12/2010 17:13

Well dd is worried about santas waist line and that to much cake mince pies etc will cause issues with the chimneys so this year Santa is being left fruit salad and water sigh wonder if can convince her the reindeer will like wine

Eddas · 22/12/2010 17:32

When we went to visit fc this year he told dc that as he couldn't eat all the mince pies that children left out for him he puts them on his sleigh and takes them back for the elves. The elves had all been talking this year and have asked all the children to leave pork pies instead Xmas Grin The reindeer have also asked that instead of carrots and parsnip is left out. So we are leaving a pork pie and parsnip!! And some milk.

panettoinydog · 22/12/2010 17:43

Port.

I don't mind mince pies but I'd choose a baklava. Unfortunately I have not seen baklava in M&S this year and sainsbury's are only doing ming ones

headfairy · 22/12/2010 18:08

:o taffeta, I could freak him out totally putting coke in there. Perhaps Father Christmas has porpheria?

BelligerentYhoULE · 22/12/2010 18:19

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm baklava. I saw some the other day - can't think where though. May well have been M&S. It's dead easy to make, you know - but I have lost my recipe because I stupidly gave the book to charity, forgetting that the yummy baklava recipe was in it.

funtimefairyintinselledwincies · 22/12/2010 19:16

Port and mince pies for F.C. and a carrot for the reindeer (one between them all, sounds a bit cruel now I come to think of it Xmas Grin).

F.C. isn't driving, Rudolf guides the sleigh so as long as he's not drinking, I think we're off the hook as far as leaving booze out goes Xmas Hmm.

panettoinydog · 22/12/2010 19:18

but the m&s ones were heaven, ghoul, and I will already be making too many things!
