My favourite song is Stop The Cavalry by Jona Lewie, although When A Child is Born can move me to tears when I'm hormonal Grin

My favourite carol would be Oh Holy Night

It has to be Fairy Tale of New York - just classic.

thisiswhataluv · 13/11/2010 18:46

still cant think of mine.... quite like the ones that are from 70s early 80s....

i totally hate that bo selecta propa crimbo song - how cheesy Grin and that one from love actually also makes me cringe "christmas is all around me" Biscuit

Fairy Tale of New York here too - makes me cry!!

Tikkabillajive · 13/11/2010 19:02

I love Fairytale of New York too.

And Judy Garland singing 'Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas'.

And I know it's not a song, but the music that was used in The Box of Delights still sends shivers down my spine!

muminthecity · 13/11/2010 19:07

Another vote for Fairytale of New York. I go to watch The Pogues at The Brixton Academy almost every year just before Christmas and this song is always guaranteed to get everyone up dancing and singing along. It just isn't Christmas 'til I've heard it!

GeorgeWBush · 13/11/2010 19:13

Fairytale of New York too.

mummynoseynora · 13/11/2010 19:48

I love fairytale of new york

also - Elton - step into christmas, for the cheesey feel good factor Grin

strandedatseasonsgreetings · 13/11/2010 19:52

Almost every Christmas song - including, I am afraid, Fairytale of New York - is so over-played that I am sick of them all.

Worst of all has to be Last Christmas. UUUUGgh.

I was in Miami last December and was quite refreshed to hear some new ones. No doubt to the Americans they are all hopelessly overplayed though.

scottishmummy · 13/11/2010 20:05

pogues fairytale new york

pink4ever · 13/11/2010 20:09

blue xmas by elvis(my nan was a mad fan!) but also another vote for judy singing have yourself a merry little xmas(always brings a tear to my eye!)

domeafavour · 13/11/2010 20:10

Hate fairytale of ny so depressing.
Love that one from home alone 2, all alone on Christmas. Can't remember singers name. Used to be in the ronettes.

MarniesMummy · 13/11/2010 20:18

Oh my word! I hate to say it as I loathe this woman

but I adore...

All I want for christmas is you by Mariah Carey.

tulpe · 13/11/2010 20:34

Fairy Tale of New York
Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas
All I Want For Christmas is You

And from a carol point of view: it has to be Hark The Herald Angels Sing......makes me cry

scottishmummy · 13/11/2010 20:36
maxpower · 13/11/2010 20:38

I like all of them (reminds me of the time I worked in retail when I was younger, which was such a great time for me). Particular favourites are fairy tale of new york, oh holy night, hark the herald angels sing, all i want for christmas is you....oh I could go on and on

pointydog · 13/11/2010 20:41

The Greg Lake song. It's lovely.

The Waitresses (is that right?) the Christmas Rapping song.

Jethro Tull, ring out thiose bells
