I'm so sorry but its me again. Really need some advice if you dont mind?

You remember me and my ds2?

here

i really dont know what to do. Last few nights have been up with him at the longest stretch every 2 hours. Mainly every half hour. Rolling around moaning and crying in pain but still half asleep. Nothing is helping. Not his age (1 this week) what would you do? He has so much wind its unbelievable. His poo is still very 2 tone. Like a lump of dark green, a lump of yellow but all together IUSWIM? Also last week or so ive noticed he's been spitting up what i think is stomach acid as he'll take his dummy out, spit it out like a raspberry and its all foamy and he will cry until i can wipe his mouth.

During 90% of the day he is ok other than ALOT of wind and the food issues.

mad4myboys · 17/11/2009 11:50

i had PND for 5 years after DS1 and ended up in hospital with it ,so i know what you are going thro

mad4myboys · 17/11/2009 19:45

ive just spoken to consultant. He said to cut down on omeperazole to 10mls a day for a week. then half the domperidone...see how he goes....he also suggested putting him on pepti junior but im really not sure? He has been on infasoy for 2 weeks and really likes it. Drinks double than what he was on neocate...

OP posts:
alypaly · 18/11/2009 11:36

i think cutting down on the drugs is the way forward personally....like i said in previous post.
I think this will help his guts return to a normal way of functioning and the poo should return to noraml brown colour if it stays in bowel longer. Persevere with it rather than changing every few weeks..let him settle with the change of meds.

mad4myboys · 18/11/2009 12:00

sorry changing what every few weeks?

im worried though that last time he stopped omeperazole his osophagus got damaged from the reflux so was put back on it. If we stop the reflux drugs....what will happen?

OP posts:
nightcat · 18/11/2009 12:09

hi mad4, you might have to stop formula too as to me it looks like vicious circle: he can't handle formula, so you give him antacids to flush it down faster, so he doesn't reject it.

Bear in mind that you can try it for a few days/weeks to see if it works. If you cut out evening formula then maybe he will be OK.

You need to take it slowly and in steps, he needs easy-digest evening meal to settle him down.

PS. Soya is a bean.

alypaly · 18/11/2009 12:39

sorry i didnt make that clear..i meant the formulas and the medicine changes.

Has his oesophagus been damaged permenantly or was it temporary?

Reflux can settle over time as his system matures....but all these drugs together may be clouding the issue.

Did the consultant speak to you personally...have you got a hot libe to him. Ask him what will happen if omep is lowered and see what he says.

You are going to worry yourself into a frazzle soon. Have a tea and try and cillax...i know its hard with DC's...i know as i had a very prem one.

alypaly · 18/11/2009 12:40

that was meant to say chillax

mad4myboys · 18/11/2009 16:10

well im pretty sure the damage was temp as the 2nd (or 3rd) camera he had done showed it was ok now although could that be due to the omep?! He is away next few days so cant ask about long term damage. Guess will phone again next week?

last night and night before i only gave him water after 3pm.... but only milk seems to settle him in the night, not water. maybe thats habit?

what are easy digest foods? He barely has anything as it is! For tea he always has either wheat free pasta or rice mixed up with a vegetable sauce of some sort and then some fruit.

Rice & veg sounds good (least allergenic), because some gf pasta contains soya.
If it has to be white, you could investigate rice milk.
More healthy suggestions in the link.

food ideas

alypaly · 18/11/2009 18:36

you could make some biscuits with rice flour or cakes with rice flour.Try some mashed sweet potato with pureed veg, green beans or cougettes.

What veg will he eat at the mo.

if his oesophagus had been damaged badly it would not look ok now as its does not heal well when badly damaged. So it must have been caught early. The omeprazole would prevent further damage as it lowers the production of acid in the stomach...(PPI) but in the experience i ahve had,its not supposed to be used constantly as it can cause other imbalances. Alot of patients on omeprazole have a 3 month course and then a month off to allow normal gastric flora to return.

mad4myboys · 19/11/2009 07:58

you guys are so informative it amazes me [looking up in admiration emotion]

so are you saying he prob wont get any more damage as the reflux isnt getting worse so therefore hopefully wont get any damage if coming off omep?

The more i hear about the omep the more i hate it. Esp as there have never been any outward difference in him taking it (no change you could see, just internal) Yesterday dropped one dose of domperidone too. Will just have to watch i guess? WIll still give same dose of senna though (consultant didnt say to drop) as if i lower it he is still constipated so will wait and see first what happens with reducing meds.

He eats every veg i have ever given him...even kale! The only thing he wont eat is cauliflower but that is giving him pieces to eat, im pretty sure he's eaten it in purees. I have got some rice flour but i use doves farm wheat/gluten free flour, is that a bad thing?

OP posts:
alypaly · 19/11/2009 09:28

i think with the omprazole, its one of things ,you will have to suck it and see.Im not qualified to say that he wont get any more damage.Fingers crossed. Follow what your consultant is saying as i think it sounds as if he is tryimg to reduce one thing at a time to uncomplicate everything.

you never know ,he may not have reflux anymore...it might be due to all the laxatives now. But follow the docs direction.

mad4myboys · 19/11/2009 09:44

thanks. well his last camera and ph study was end of sep and it was still very bad...but yes something couldve happened by now! Heres hoping!

OP posts:
alypaly · 19/11/2009 10:15

if reflux is constantly bad...you get oesophageal erosion which is permenant....if the camera has shown no damage...you have caught it early and hopefully there will be no more problems with things like eosophageal ulceration...but if you feel it is getting worse when it is reduced...get in contact with you consultant. Keep him propped up at night to help him.

ooohhhh i do feel for you.

mad4myboys · 19/11/2009 15:07

OP posts:
alypaly · 21/11/2009 09:01

oooh thats brilliant...i had hoped that was the case...maybe he might settle with the reduction and things might get back to normal.

nightcat · 21/11/2009 11:07

happy 4 U
glad U had a good night!

PS. Don't restock in senna next time round, there is another all-natural option of flaxseeds, super-healthy overall.

alypaly · 21/11/2009 23:02

hope you get another good night{smile]
