Looking for some advice.
My daughter is 3 in April.
She hardly eats but her weight is rapidly increasing. She doesn't snack she eats minimal at meals. She doesn't like sweet things she will eat fruit if anything.
She currently weights 31.8kg (5 stone) shes put on 14kg (2.2 stone) in a year.
Shes seeing a paediatrician and a paediatric endocrine specialists but yet we still have no answers.
I feel like im at a loose end.
Has anyone got any ideas?

Keep pushing every health professional. Surprised though that you’ve had her ears pierced with jewellery like that at this age.
Have they done tests? What results have come back?

FFS Why do you need to mention the jewellery? So bitchy, judgemental and irrelevant! Shame on you! The op is understandably really worried.

Just a bit of an update. Her genetics testing panel came back as normal. Her calorie intake is around 630 a day. The doctor has jo clue what to do now and we have a new endocrine specialists for a second opinion as the 1st one didnt listen to what we were saying and in the report stated that she is eating normal sized meals when she isn't. We are now at a bit of a dead end. I dont no what to do or where to go. Her weight is increasing she now cannot fit in a car seat or high backed booster seat, shes in 8-9 clothes and when she last got weighed at the hospital she was 32.3kg

I suppose they can only test for genes that they know about. There will be other genes that they don’t know of yet. Are you still able to get referred to a specialist obesity clinic?

It might be worth asking if she can have an mri. If the doctor seems to be lost as to what could be causing this you can request to be referred elsewhere Flowers

Hi, I’m in your boat, albeit my daughter is older but she was a similar weight at a similar age. It’s utterly heartbreaking and scary and so unfair. I’m afraid I don’t have any answers but I can hold your hand. It’s very very hard. PM me if you like.

I can see that all bloods so far have been ok except insulin resistance and while this is reassuring I think they’d be wise to order an MRI to visualise certain areas of the brain particularly the hypothalamus. In your position I would really push for this.

I have just googled this. I have looked at what does and recently my daughter has been complaining she is cold all the time when usually she is hot. You have to remind her to drink and she used to sleep threw but now she doesn't as she is constantly tired when she wakes up and moody

I’d also want a pituitary gland scan - which can be part of the head MRI. I’d also worry at 630 calories a day she’ll actually be malnourished. This needs to be expedited as urgent as something is clearly wrong. Poor you and your daughter, you need to start to really kick ass.

Shitmonger · 20/02/2026 17:31

I know this will be difficult with seven children but I think it is very, very important that either you or your husband stay somewhere with her for 1-2 weeks away from the other children and see if anything changes. If her appetite suddenly starts “increasing” and she’s finishing her meals then you will have your answer. I know you think that they’re not giving her anything but you need to be 1000% certain before having her undergo further, more invasive medical testing. Especially since the tests are coming back pretty normal so far.

This will also help you argue for further testing if needed, as many doctors will be reluctant to do even more tests in a household where there are six older siblings all potentially giving her things. If you’ve separated them for a time and nothing at all changes you can use this to push for MRIs, etc.

How verbal is she?

We have been on holiday with her for a week and she was the same and put on weight. Me or my partner are with her at all times.

Omg :( I'm sorry this is happening
I would now move to escalate to consultant boss, pals, local MP. Just write up one complaint/letter and send it off to all of them with all the relevant info and request for referral to a specialist consultant team or great ormond street

An MRI is essential. Have you seen an ophthalmologist? Or an optometrist at the very least? If there's a problem with the pituitary, that can affect vision & the optic nerve. So it's a non-invasive way of trying to get answers. My son was sent for an MRI after visual testing with the ophthalmologist.

I have made official complaints to both hospitals one got back to me and she is having a second opinion with another endocrine specialists and the other has told me 60 days to hear anything. Its absolutely shocking

I really suggest as an easy first step - something you can do without waiting or spending money on private endocrinologist (assuming that's not affordable?) just going to a high street optometrist for a full check. It's possible they could spot if something is amiss and refer you for quicker escalation. Though absolutely continue with all other avenues.
