Looking for some advice.
My daughter is 3 in April.
She hardly eats but her weight is rapidly increasing. She doesn't snack she eats minimal at meals. She doesn't like sweet things she will eat fruit if anything.
She currently weights 31.8kg (5 stone) shes put on 14kg (2.2 stone) in a year.
Shes seeing a paediatrician and a paediatric endocrine specialists but yet we still have no answers.
I feel like im at a loose end.
Has anyone got any ideas?

I’d keep on at the endocrinologist to be honest. If there is a medical cause it really needs to be diagnosed now. I think I’d be worried too based on the information you’ve given.

Sohelpmegod25 · 08/01/2026 23:42

I’d be calling the GP in the morning and explaining how worried you are and asking them to do a full blood count to check for everything and anything and also ask them to retire an expedite letter to the specialists too.
I hope you can get it sorted soon x

batsh1ttery · 09/01/2026 00:27

Keep pushing every health professional. Surprised though that you’ve had her ears pierced with jewellery like that at this age.
Have they done tests? What results have come back?

minipie · 09/01/2026 00:48

It’s good she’s seeing an endocrinologist. As a pp says what tests have been done? Have they no ideas?

Cjkd24 · 09/01/2026 08:18

Shes had loads of tests. Her thyroid is fine. Her insulin came back a bit high and her one of her liver tests came back a bit high. That's all they have said

My gp are useless. I had been telling them about her weight for over a year and they dismissed it said she would just be a body builder its only because the health visitor said it needs looking into that they listened x

Likely they'd say no as she is under consultant care, fe my experience. Usually paediatric bloods can't be done at a GP surgery either, again, in my experience.

Unless your expectations of what children should eat are wildly off, I'd be very concerned. What does she eat and drink in a typical day including quantities? I assume you've checked all this if you're posting here.

Can you ask to see a different GP at the surgery? We had some long term health problems that were only solved when a new GP joined our surgery and started getting things fast tracked.

What the hell?
a parent comes looking for advice and help, worried about their child’s health, and you’re having a go about ear piercings?
have a word with yourself!

Ive been keeping food diaries. Yesterday she had a handful of cereal (NO sugar) ,1/2 a small sausage roll, chicken burger with 1/2 the bun and 8 chips all day. She drinks water most of the time but does have sugar free juice sometimes. She will have milk at bedtime

Yes that's not a lot to account for that weight gain! The NHS can be real quick to try to put off parents, i think you're going to have to be persistent and pushy on this one. Good luck!

They have been a nightmare. Her genetics panel was meant to be done with her other blood tests in September we had to wait 3 months for the results then they told me monday they hadn't been done and they missed them so had to have another blood test. I feel like they honestly dont care. The endocrine team were meant to do a report from her appointment on 8th Dec and it still hasn't been done. I feel like im getting no where and her weight is just increasing.

That sounds really tough :( We've been hugely let down too, it seems like a common story.

Its been a living nightmare. All they keep telling us is wait for genetics yet it hadn't been done.

There’s a group on fb where you may get more responses with similar experiences. It’s called Parents of very big babies/ toddlers

Have they considered a pituitary issue? Benign pituitary tumours are actually common (I have one) and they can cause havoc with hormones and I know control weight and height etc. depending on where they are affects what the issues are but rapidly increasing weight is a common affect.

Dolphinnoises · 09/01/2026 09:11

It’s not a lot of food, but hopefully isn’t typical - that’s a very unhealthy array of food there.

Is there anyone in your wider family who is living with significant obesity? There can be genetic links.

To get food professionals to take this seriously you need to have a food diary and make it perfect - lots of veg sticks, lean protein and veg-based carbohydrates.

I am sympathetic as my DD was similar at this age and I found it so stressful. My MIL told me my DH was the same and grew out of it - and this is what happened to us. It’s worth asking the older relatives of her dad’s family’s if there is any actual puppy fat in the family. It’s a phrase which has gone out of fashion as people were using it as a figleaf for actual childhood obesity, but in some cases, people really do pack on the weight as children and then grow it off

I have been keeping a food diary for months now. They have seen it and agree that its not a food issue and she eats very little for her age. Its been a nightmare
