Hi, so I’m freaking out! I was doing regular bath time and cleaning my son’s ears out and noticed this circle in his ear that looked like it was reflecting in the light!
not sure what to do!

As a weird ear wax fanatic. It’s glorious.

MissyPants · 26/02/2025 23:03

How bizarre, the first pic looks like it has tiny holes & a pattern on it. You need to pull it out with tweezers and film yourself doing it, then post it on You Tube. You will make a bit of money if it gets enough views.
People love stuff like that:

In the name of the wee man, READ THE OPs UPDATES!!!!!!!!!

MissyPants · 26/02/2025 23:07

I have read it's ear wax btw, my response is in relation to the wax 🤗

WimbyAce · 26/02/2025 23:12

Wow really surprised by the outcome! I thought it was some kind of mini toy coin.

pompey38 · 26/02/2025 23:13

Only because you found an incompetent nurse? I had my “ share” with tweezers over the years I’m still to slip one.

PandaTime · 26/02/2025 22:49

You said it with such confidence!

Because in the picture looks shiny and kids have a special attraction to those little batteries 😂glad it’s sorted

Try and use the suction pipe of your hoover to see if that will suck it out- if not a&e im afraid

What a stupid suggestion this is a child's ear we're talking about. Do you not understand you can damage the eardrum doing that. Doctors say don't put anything in your ear smaller than your elbow.

I would also expect to be able to gently get that out with a pair of infected tweezers, especially as it does look like a split ring that should be very easy to grab. If needed, send someone to a late night store with a good chemist section and get the long pointed tweezers - I have a tweezerman pair that I definitely think could reach that. Then off to the walk in in the morning to get him checked over.

Haha I started reading that as "Then off to... Sporner Corner of Mumsnet with photographic evidence."

How old is he? You might not have button batteries at home but has he been anywhere else for childcare?

Paramedics ? My aunt couldn't even get an ambulance for a stroke !

Op I do think it needs medical attention but please don't ask for an ambulance

I agree. Unfortunately there are elderly people lying on the floor for 12 hours + waiting for ambulances at the moment. Hopefully 111 will advise. Good luck OP.

I am aghast that people are suggesting AndE for something that is neither an accident nor an emergency. It's the ear, it's closed off from the rest of the body by the ear drum. Not an emergency. Looks like a lump of wax to me (audio)

What if it had been a button battery. One of the really small ones.

Clafoutie · 26/02/2025 23:41

Ah, should have read the whole thread!

Cakeandcoffee93 · 26/02/2025 23:44

Could be the way the wax had gone- my daughters ear was impacted and they sucked out a stone looking lump of wax lol

Cakeandcoffee93 · 26/02/2025 23:45

However that is a coin

chattyness · 26/02/2025 23:45

Glad it was only wax and everything is ok , what a relief.

Cakeandcoffee93 · 26/02/2025 23:46

Ah I wish I could post the pic of my daughters wax it was huge!

I had one of these many years ago and it felt so satisfying coming out.

Mind you I had a moth stuck right the way into my ear canal last year that even medics irrigating my ear couldn't remove. After 2 days I couldn't stand it any more and managed to poke it out myself. So maybe I am a bit overly gung ho

A MOTH - I am off this thread , I am beyond traumatised Shock

There are some things you wish to un-know. 😯

BettyBardMacDonald · 27/02/2025 00:34

My brother in law was a GP. He had an elegant, mature woman come in one day complaining of an issue with her ear.

He peeked in and saw it was a TICK!

He told her and she fainted dead away in the examination room.

Nearlyspring23 · 27/02/2025 00:38

Do you have a recent photo? You don’t think the object moved and was hidden by wax, making the dr come to the wax conclusion? From the photos it really does look like an object (my money was in a metal clothes popper). I think I would want a second opinion.

I've heard roaches crawling in ears at night is fairly common, something that absolutely terrifies me.

Unfortunately no tin of beans this time😂
they didn’t take it out, just sent us on our way! So a lovely 2 hour trip out😂
thank you everyone! Glad it’s been checked and I can rest easy!

Why didn't they remove it since you were already there?

you can actually get your ears checked by just walking into most pharmacists, for free. so that might be worth doing. If the OP has to get some ear wax removal stuff she could do it at the same time.

Christmasbear1 · 27/02/2025 02:41

Drs won't remove ear wax. You'd have to get it removed privately.

Those saying to call 111, what exactly did you expect them to advise over the phone? If you've got a foreign object in your body then someone will need to have a proper look and retrieve it. You may need specialist equipment. A&E/MIU is appropriate
