Hi, so I’m freaking out! I was doing regular bath time and cleaning my son’s ears out and noticed this circle in his ear that looked like it was reflecting in the light!
not sure what to do!

What’s this in my child’s ear?!

Where's the photo?

TwentyTwentyFive · 26/02/2025 19:13

That looks like he's shoved some coins in his ear... How old is he?

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 26/02/2025 19:13

How are you cleaning his ears? You aren't supposed to use cotton buds or insert anything into the actual ear canal. As well as risking damaging the ear drum, you can push wax further inside and stimulate excessive wax production.

Beamur · 26/02/2025 19:15

How old?
Looks like a coin?

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 26/02/2025 19:15

Photo's appeared now. Not clear enough to identify the object though. I'd ring GP first thing tomorrow.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 26/02/2025 19:16

I think a coin is unlikely due to diameter of a child's ear canal.

chattyness · 26/02/2025 19:16

It looks like one of those little round flat batteries like you get in key fobs, the picture isn't very clear on my screen though

Justmuddlingalong · 26/02/2025 19:16

Could it be a wee button battery?

igivein · 26/02/2025 19:16

Think he’s going to need minor injuries / a&e / walk-in centre to fish it out.
It looks like a coin, but could possibly be a small battery. You really don’t want to be poking around in there.

Clocloxx · 26/02/2025 19:17

Can you not pluck it out with a tweezers?

Frazzledandfried · 26/02/2025 19:17

Agree, looks like a button battery.

igivein · 26/02/2025 19:18

Clocloxx · 26/02/2025 19:17

Don’t do this. If it’s a battery and you damage it it could leak into the ear canal.
Whatever it is you could end up pushing it further in.

usersdlkgp099uohlk · 26/02/2025 19:19

It's hard to tell - can you post a better photo with more light?
Is there a hole in the middle?

It looks like round over lapping loops with a hole in the middle - like a the bit of a key ring that you put the keys onto or a curtain ring.

Mummyto3derby · 26/02/2025 19:19

i didn’t clean in his ear was just using a cotton pad with some warm water to clean the outside of his ear and just around the hole of his ear, but had the torch on as didn’t have great lighting in the room and it just looked like something was reflecting.

we have nothing that requires button batteries, I’m petrified of them in case they swallow them so make sure there’s none in the house! Definitely going to ring the GP in the morning! Just so worried as thought I was going insane when I saw it

Irrespective of whether it's a coin, battery or something else please don't poke and prod at it and take him to a&e asap.

minisoksmakehardwork · 26/02/2025 19:25

Regardless of whether it's a battery or coins, I don't think leaving it until tomorrow, when he could run or poke it further in, is a great idea.

I would definitely be taking him to be seen tonight. It might be worth ringing 111 as they may be able to recommend somewhere other than A&E at this time of day. I've been sent to a 'minor injuries' centre next to our city A&E so I didn't have to wait as long as

Fair enough then. Good luck at GP, let us know how you get on.

Mummyto3derby · 26/02/2025 19:26

This is the best photo I can get

going to ring 111 thank you!

Looks a bit like a playmobil coin.

Queenanne20 · 26/02/2025 19:28

I'd take him to the hospital now, or phone 111 and they might send the paramedics, I definitely wouldn't wait till morning. They will be able to remove whatever it is safely, there is a danger you might push whatever it is further into his ear and you don't want to end up with him having to have major surgery. Try to keep him as still as possible so it doesn't go any deeper. Please phone 111 now.

0ddsocks · 26/02/2025 19:29

Could it be a button from clothing.

I second people saying don't leave it till tomorrow- 111, minor injuries or A&E

anicecuppateaa · 26/02/2025 19:32

I have a high threshold for a&e, but would be taking him tonight so whatever it is can be safely removed.

rach7979 · 26/02/2025 19:34

Don't wait until the morning it could damage his eardrum and hearing. A&E job tonight.

IDoWhateverItTakes · 26/02/2025 19:38

Yikes! He's definitely got something in there that shouldn't be.

ridingfreely · 26/02/2025 19:38

Try and use the suction pipe of your hoover to see if that will suck it out- if not a&e im afraid
