Hi, so I’m freaking out! I was doing regular bath time and cleaning my son’s ears out and noticed this circle in his ear that looked like it was reflecting in the light!
not sure what to do!

What’s this in my child’s ear?!

Worrying about a child's ear canal getting damaged is hysterical? What a bloody ridiculous comment. As well as a demeaning and misogynist comment.

Grow up!

OP go to a &e u don't need it moving further down the canal overnight and making it harder to remove. A gp will likely send you to a & e tmrw to get it out anyway so go now.

If it's stuck it won't move further down.

The ear canal gets smaller not bigger.

Ladyluckinred · 26/02/2025 21:27

Hope he is okay, OP. In the past, I’ve spoken to 111 and I’ve been booked an appointment in A&E. It may only be a guide time but it’s a lot quicker. I guess they’ll assess how urgent it is though.

Using tweezers isn't poking.

You only insert the tweezers to the point of touching the object. You don't push it further in.

Whoever deals with it (nurse etc) will use an instrument to grab it or use a medical hoover / suction machine- the sort audiologists use now to remove embedded ear wax.

Edited

The item is in the ear. So the tweezers have to be poked in to the ear!

Fuck me, some people on this thread. 🙄

Mrswhirley · 26/02/2025 21:30

Looks like it could be a popper fastening, whatever it is I hope you get it sorted tonight OP 😊 once removed safely, feel free to report back and update on what the item is 😂

Soundsofblue · 26/02/2025 21:30

Could it be a little silverfish bug curled up in there?

Of course it can get moved further in/further down!

Seriously WTF? Confused

I give up.

@Mummyto3derby I hope you have taken your child to A & E. Ignore all the naysayers here saying you shouldn't - and to just poke tweezers in and do it yourself. That's dangerous. Good luck. Hope A & E manage to remove the item!

Is everyone I've ever met super weird anatomically? Who are these people who can fit coins or keyrings down their ear canals? I can barely fit the tip of my finger when ive got an itch or tickle to scratch.

you can get split rings that are just a few mm across in diameter- I sometimes use them in jewellery making. I don’t think the OPs photo looks like one though, I think it’s possibly a small metal button.

No, the object is in the outer ear where it's visible.
If it was right in the ear canal it would be invisible.

Some posters are being ridiculous .

It comes over as if they don't know how tweezers work.

Tweezers have prongs- you grab the object then pull.

If the object is at the outer ear, you're not going to poke it in further by gently placing the edge of the tweezers on one side of it.

Tweezers pull something- they don't push.

Obviously if you try to use tweezers on something like a splinter, you don't PUSH. You grab gently and pull.

Onemoret1me · 26/02/2025 21:31

It looks like a Googley eye. Seems to be catching the light the same way as when my daughter had one stuck up her nose.
Hope they get it out without too much hassle

MhariMe · 26/02/2025 21:32

Looks like his eardrum to me. I have an ear cleaner with a mini camera attached and this is exactly what it looks like when the light hits it. Have a Google and you will see.

Naepalz · 26/02/2025 21:32

This looks very near to the entrance. Surely you could easily remove it with tweezers? I see no reason why you couldn't carefully do this without risking it going in any further.

Mind you I had a moth stuck right the way into my ear canal last year that even medics irrigating my ear couldn't remove. After 2 days I couldn't stand it any more and managed to poke it out myself. So maybe I am a bit overly gung ho.

Also once managed to extract a raisin from up DD's nostril when she was 2. I saw a mass when she complained of discomfort and thought it was a tumour until she 'fessed up to putting it there 😂

carly2803 · 26/02/2025 21:33

oh wow toddlers hey!!

defo dont leave that tonight- it needs to come out!!

Workhardcryharder · 26/02/2025 21:34

goodness! Hopefully it’s harmless and can be easily pulled

I agree to be honest.

I had my ears dewaxed not long ago and the audiologist used a camera with a small hoover attachment so I watched the entire process on screen.

I'm not sure there is anything IN the ear at all- other than fine hairs and skin.

Mumofsmallies · 26/02/2025 21:35

I remember advice someone in a similar situation was given once that seemed to make sense - get them to hold their nose, close their mouth and blow. If it doesn’t come out, it’s not coming out and go to A&E.

laesosalt · 26/02/2025 21:35

Here to see what it is!!!!

Darkclothes · 26/02/2025 21:36

I too NEED to know what it is now!

WeightLossGoal2024 · 26/02/2025 21:37

A&E and do nit let him poke his finger in!

LuLuRN · 26/02/2025 21:37

BeachRide · 26/02/2025 21:25

A&E? Paramedics? GP? God almighty. Grab some tweezers and sort it out, like mothers have done for centuries. Jeeso.

100% this!

MounjaroOnMyMind · 26/02/2025 21:39

Yes, just get tweezers! No need for A&E.

Misogynist comment? Ha ha get a grip. You actually reported my comment? Think you need to grow up 🤣😆🤣

Adropintheocean1 · 26/02/2025 21:39

It cant be his ear drum, that’s not visible from just looking in your ear hole surely?!

CJsGoldfish · 26/02/2025 21:40

Adropintheocean1 · 26/02/2025 19:53

I would 100% be fishing that out with a pair of tweezers, it’s not deep it’s reachable.

Same.
The seems to be plenty of room to grab it without pushing it further in.

Shefliesonherownwings · 26/02/2025 21:40

Is it only me that thinks it just looks like ear wax?!
