I mean, I don't even know where to start with the autism speculation. I really thought we'd debunked that nonsense a long time ago.

Wolfiefan · 13/03/2023 17:28

It’s not a tough decision. The autism link you mention has been completely debunked. You’ve been told the single vaccines aren’t being made for all elements of the MMR. So the only choice is whether you want the protection of a vaccine or not.
I couldn’t have my vaccines (years ago) on advice of our GP. I had all those illnesses and was bloody lucky to come out unscathed.

dementedpixie · 13/03/2023 17:28

The autism link was debunked
You cant get them singly anyway

HippyChickMama · 13/03/2023 17:30

The supposed link between autism and MMR came about because of one study of 12 children. That is not a valid sample by any means. There have since been multiple large scale studies of hundreds of thousands of children that show no link whatsoever. There is no link

I only ask as I didn’t know if there was anything new.
When my DD was due the MMR it was huge in the media so I understand why you’re thinking about it. Silly maybe but I decided after Dr Chris on This Morning was asked if he would give it to his children and he said he would, and that’s why I gave mine the combined. A lifetime ago.

katmarie · 13/03/2023 17:39

But just to summarise the facts here.

  • Andrew Wakefield was the scientist who alledgedly found a link between MMr and Autism. (spoiler - he didn't)
  • His research had no ethical approval.
  • It included just 12 children. Five of these children had pre existing developmental concerns.
  • Wakefield was paid by an organisation looking to start a class action lawsuit against supposed 'vaccine damage'.
  • He was also looking to personally make a fortune selling testing kits to test individuals for the autism he claimed these children had.
  • He had also applied for a patent for a single jab measles vaccine. If his research was accepted as truth he stood to make millions.
  • There was evidence to suggest that Wakefield manipulated the results of the study to his own ends.
  • The whole study was retracted from The Lancet, and has been described as the most damaging medical hoax of the 20th century.
  • Andrew Wakefield has been the subject of multiple court cases since. His research has not stood up to scrutiny in any of those cases. He was struck off, and deservedly so. The man should be in prison for the number of deaths and permanent injuries which are on his hands.

No one has been able to find a conclusive link between MMR and autism, despite extensive international research. Because there is no link. End of Story.

Lina15 · 13/03/2023 17:41

i also came across robert dineros interview too the guy just recommended single doses
as they wendy sure if the mmr combined could cause that

He’s an actor. Not a doctor.

Clymene · 13/03/2023 17:43

The single vaccines are no longer manufactured.
The autism link has been entirely debunked.
Andrew Wakefield has been struck off.

The MMR does not cause autism.

ChilliBandit · 13/03/2023 17:47

Out of interest OP, why does a video you saw from an actor hold more weight for you than thousands of peer reviewed medical studies?

If you like videos I recommend the one by Penn and Teller on vaccines. It shows you the effects of vaccines in an easy to understand format.

I feel we are wasting our breath here.

i no that but why doesn’t every persons story count?

You’re referring to things he said years ago. Anyone can say what they like. Anyone can spout complete bollocks. Get your health advice from trusted professionals.

AxolotlOnions · 13/03/2023 17:56

"why doesn’t every persons story count?2

Because you need evidence. I had the single jabs and have autism, does that mean the single jabs caused my autism? No, because autism is genetic. Even anti-vaxxer funded research into the MMR have found that it doesn't cause autism. Wakefield is a conman.

MetalFences · 13/03/2023 18:02

Lina15 · 13/03/2023 17:54

Don't give it to your child then.

I don't see why people should have to persuade you and only give you positive experiences.

Posters have taken time to explain things quite clearly but you don't seem to be taking anything in at all.

DismantledKing · 13/03/2023 18:06

I can’t believe that we are in 2023, and this nonsense is still going on. It was all debunked years ago; I didn’t think that anyone was still daft enough to stress about the MMR.

Marchforward · 13/03/2023 18:10

Have you looked up the symptoms and complications of measles and mumps?

titchy · 13/03/2023 18:16

Lina15 · 13/03/2023 17:54

i no that but why doesn’t every persons story count?

Well I'm a world leading expert in autism and I'm telling you that actually it's orange juice that causes autism.

Can you see any problems in what I have said OP?

Caramelstar · 13/03/2023 18:33

Hi OP

you can’t get single vaccines anymore. If you are concerned you could maybe split the vaccines so the mmr is the only one your child has on that particular day (with the 1 year and pre school vaccinations it’s other injections as well as the mmr)

Id like to try and reassure you about Autism and the mmr. I used to think the same (strong family history of ASD) so I didn’t vaccinate my children till they were 10…… they were diagnosed with autism at ages 2, 3 and 8. They hadn’t had any vaccines !!! So I then realised how wrong I was and vaccinated them all. Please don’t worry about autism as it will not cause it.

As I said before too if you’re concerned about amount of vaccines in one go you can always just do the mmr on its own .

Best of luck

WeWereInParis · 13/03/2023 18:34

Given the amount of evidence there is from all the main times it's been looked into, I think MMR is one of the things we can be most sure does not cause autism.

Caramelstar · 13/03/2023 18:35

DismantledKing · 13/03/2023 18:06

A lot of people do still worry. I think rather than calling that daft or getting annoyed we could really help to educate . I got so much negativity when I was anti vax and actually the one person who sat me down and kindly gave me facts and kind advice was the one who made me change my mind when I’d realised that it wasn’t going to cause autism . We could really help OP here or any others in future who come across this thread

The actor..? Or is there an autism expert with the same name?

katmarie · 13/03/2023 18:37

Lina15 · 13/03/2023 17:54

i no that but why doesn’t every persons story count?

Because not every persons story is supported by the science. Give me evidence and your story can count, same as anyone else's with evidence. Without evidence it's meaningless. Sorry to be blunt but it's people's lives we are talking about.
