Called back to consultant after DS brain MRI

hello, my DS aged 7 has been having nausea, sickness and headaches since November and through lots of pushing managed to get an MRI which was on Monday eve - we were told to expect results in 2 weeks. Today I received a phone call from the paediatric consultants secretary asking myself and hubby to go in tomorrow at noon. I’m terrified. Has anyone else got experience of this? What’s scared me most is that they have asked me to bring hubby. They have requested that we don’t bring DS. I don’t even know what I’m asking for on this thread, maybe someone that has been in a similar situation? Thanks x

I am so sorry that the news wasn’t better OP. As others have said, at least now he will be treated quickly, he will be in excellent hands . I know there are many other parents on this board who have been through this and who will support you.
I do feel angry on your behalf that it has taken SEVEN MONTHS to get an MRI.

Mariposista · 23/06/2022 16:21

Poor lad, terrible news and hard times ahead. But he will be treated in an excellent hospital by a fantastic team of experts. I really hope that one day this will just be a bump in the road for your family. All the best.

I am sorry to hear that your son has a tumour. But as he has a tumour I am very glad that it's been found so treatment can start. Well done for pushing the issue.

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 23/06/2022 16:28

So sorry to hear this op. My thoughts are with you all x

What a horrible shock for you all.

greatblueheron · 23/06/2022 16:37

I'm so sorry to see your update, OP.

I hope they're able to successfully treat him at JR.

Adviceseeker35 · 23/06/2022 16:38

I'm so sorry.

User3568975431146 · 23/06/2022 16:38

Hoping that it's not malignant and they can use all their skills to get stuck in about it snd get rid of it.

A massive well done on fighting for your wee boy, although you're facing worry and uncertainty, without you and your mum senses it would have been caught when much more damage would have been done.

Be proud of yourself, you are and will continue to be an amazing mum 💐💞

Dobbysgotthesocks · 23/06/2022 16:41

Eek3under3 · 23/06/2022 16:48

What shit news. I am so sorry. Today and the next few days/ weeks/ months must feel unimaginable right now, but remember this…by pushing drs and advocating for your son, you could well have saved his life. He will now get the best possible care to sort this out. We are all rooting for him, and you.

Watzzap · 23/06/2022 16:48

Absolutely gutted for you @nearlymumof5, that is awful news. Hopefully, by your pushing for an earlier MRI, it has been caught early enough to facilitate a good outcome.

Mums really do know best when it comes to their children and you know that you have done the very best you could, by pushing for this. 💐

Icouldabeenalawyer · 23/06/2022 16:49

Sending so much love, strength and positivity x

Daisy62 · 23/06/2022 16:52

Thinking of you OP. The JR has a wonderful reputation. One day at a time - this has been a big day, try to breathe and know that you are further forward and on the way to treatment.

Misspacorabanne · 23/06/2022 16:56

Oh op, I'm so sorry to hear this!
I was really hoping it wouldn't be.
But he now has a diagnosis, so that means treatment can begin, and he can begin to feel better. You've done so well pushing to get him seen!
I'm thinking of you all!

Ghislainedefeligonde · 23/06/2022 16:58

Sorry to hear your awful news - I was in a very similar situation 7 years ago with my son who was 8 at the time.
My son is now 15 and doing well, has had a couple of operations and might need another but he’s otherwise ok. I just want to give you a positive story as I’m sure you will be in a very bad place at the moment.
The Brain Tumour Charity have lots of helpful resources and once you feel able it’s worth a look. You can also phone and speak to them and they can offer practical support as well

Hello everyone, unfortunately it was bad news. DS has a tumour at the back of his head measuring 2.5cm x 3cm. We are being referred to John Radcliffe and he also needs another mri with contrast dye. I’m feeling numb, hubby is a mess x

I’m so so sorry to hear your news @nearlymumof5 . Sending you unMumsnetty hugs and best wishes for his treatment.
