Recurring limp and leg pain

My toddler is 23 months old. In March he had irritable hip. He couldn't weight bare they did a hip X-ray said he was constipated. Took blood and said he had high inflammation and diagnosed irritable hip. Since then my toddler hasn't walked properly. He has a very noticeable weakness on his left side. His knee gives way daily. I took him back to the GP who referred us for physio back in may we still have no appointment for this. The past four weeks he has been waking up crying touching his leg saying ouch. The crying lasts between 1-3 hours until he eventually settles. Should I take him back to the GP or wait for the referral to physiotherapy? Confused

Just read through your thread. Sounds very similar to my son two years ago. I was convinced he had juvenile arthritis as he had a pinprick rash associated with a limp and leg going from beneath him. We were back and forth to GP/A&E over several months but the paediatricians were all unphased. His bloods were normal other than high platelets. Eventually we saw a brilliant consultant paediatrician who diagnosed him with post viral arthritis. Thankfully wasn't anything to be concerned about and it did clear up within a few months. Possibly this could be the case for your son too? I am so sorry you are being fobbed off through, I really feel for you. Can your GP not request the bloods for you and you take your son to the nearest paediatric phlebotomy? I had to do this recently for my youngest and he had the bloods done and results with days. As you say it would be beneficial for when you have the private consultant appointment.

I hope you get to the bottom of it soon though. Nothing worse than worrying about your childs health 😔

@pumpkinspice1 I've also been thinking about you and your boy. I do hope you are OK.

SummerHouse · 01/11/2021 17:52

I keep coming back to Mumsnet solely to check on this thread. OP, I have everything crossed for you and sending you positive thoughts. Just really hoping you and your boy are ok.

@pumpkinspice1 I’ve been wondering how your little one is doing. I’m guessing you may have had your private appointment by now?

Sending you strength @pumpkinspice1, I do hope for a positive update

Hi everyone, I'm sorry I haven't been on for a while. We've unfortunately all had covid. We went to the hospital with all of the symptoms and the doctor who we saw told us exactly the same and to wait for the referral. We explained the symptoms and every single thing that was going on and straight away we could tell they thought we were neurotic parents. Eventually the doctor had to ask us to leave and again to wait for the tests to be done. On the Friday evening ds was lay on the sofa and I noticed a swelling in his tummy. (Will include picture) We went straight to our local A&E for them to tell us they couldn't feel anything and it was probably constipation. We had the photos which clearly showed something along with all the other symptoms but the doctor told us if we were concerned to go back to our GP. Monday morning and we called the GP who point blank refused to see our son for the fact the A&E doctor had stated they couldn't feel anything. There have been tears all weekend from me and dad. I'm now starting to think if they are not concerned why am I worrying so much? Sad People are constantly telling us we aren't doing enough and how we should be sat in A&E but we've tried that it has not got us anywhere. Our paediatric appointment is on Monday and honestly the relief I feel knowing we have this is incredible.
Thank you to everyone for your advice and for checking in on us.

I cant believe this is happening. I am so sorry that no one is listening to you. Both of my children had a limp and hip pain, we were sent to A&E that day by the gp and had xray and blood tests almost straight away (it was busy). That doctor who told you the wrong date could have easily done a blood test that day, it would have taken minutes! I'm so angry for you. Good luck with your private consultation x

beckypv · 07/11/2021 08:33

I’m sorry you have all had covid now as well. Hope it doesn’t impact on you accessing the doctors next week. Sounds like getting a blood test is going to be key to this. I hope your private appointment can provide you with this.

pinguwozpushed · 07/11/2021 09:56

Hoping that you get listened to tomorrow.

sconenotscon · 07/11/2021 11:00

I'm sorry you're going through this and sorry you were turned away Thanks
Best of luck for tomorrow. Fingers firmly crossed for a positive update

abbs1 · 07/11/2021 15:49

@pumpkinspice1 I am so sorry youve been turned away yet again and your little one is suffering. I hope the private consultation gives you some answers. 🤗

olderandwiserx · 08/11/2021 01:42

I'm so sorry you going through this. Really hoping for a positive experience for you and some answers at your private appointment. X

3luckystars · 08/11/2021 09:56

Bring a list with you.
BULLET POINTS on it.

Read it and HAND IT TO THE DOCTOR.

Good luck today.

LunaAndHerMoonDragons · 08/11/2021 10:32

This is really appalling the way the doctor and A&E have acted. One of my DC has a chronic hip condition, A&E have checked her and ordered X-rays everytime she's had increased hip pain or limping or refusing to weight bare. I hope the private paediatrician will listen and start the appropriate investigations. If they dont I'd start escalating through PALs, hospital complaints, any avenue you can think of.

With the constipation that's being blamed for some of this, was that actually diagnosed by ultrasound? Have they offered treatment? We've been through that with the same DC. She's now on long term treatment for that, it can take year or more for the bowel to return to normal as chronic constipation stretches it, successful treatment usually needs a long term of daily medication.

notapizzaeater · 08/11/2021 10:48

Have you spoken to PALS at the hospital ? Is your private appointment this week ? It's shocking how they keep fobbing you off

crumblebug · 08/11/2021 11:15

@3luckystars probably not a helpful comment as the OP has done this multiple times and unfortunately been ignored

Best of luck for today, do let us know how it goes when you can Flowers

3luckystars · 08/11/2021 11:54

I know but it’s just absolutely unbelievable the way they have been treated. I would print it off and ask it to be put in her sons file. How can they ignore a parent and a sick child to such an extent.

I really hope you get proper treatment today. All the best.

pumpkinspice1 · 09/11/2021 14:46

Hi my son had blood tests yesterday which showed a hb of 14.9 The doctor said it was normal and all of my sons symptoms were due to a viral infection and the walking and waking up in pain was due to him attention seeking. No further tests were arranged. I'm dumb struck. My health visitor is shocked and has wrote a letter of complaint to PALS We've all noticed a change in my child. He doesn't eat He lays around all day. Why is no one listening to me? I'm lost. I have the photos the videos and even still nothing is being done. Am I worrying too much? Is mothers instinct a real thing? He said an ultra sound would be refused and an X-ray of his leg wasn't needed Sad

I was waiting for you to come on and say they slammed the door in your face or threw your husband down the stairs. It is hard to believe how badly they are treating you all.

weresupermonsters · 09/11/2021 15:19

Sorry op you must be out of your mind.
Did they mention any of the other blood results? What was his CRP, WBC etc?

If this was me reading this thread I wouldn't believe it either. I honestly have no words what to say about it. I have cried got angry and now have no other options. Sad

@weresupermonsters

Sorry op you must be out of your mind. Did they mention any of the other blood results? What was his CRP, WBC etc?
The only other thing he mentioned was his ESR was fine and CRP was 2. We mentioned things such as childhood cancers as he has a lot of red flags for this to be told if it was anything as serious as cancer he would be seriously unwell xx

I'm so sorry @pumpkinspice1.

Apart from seeing if there's any way you could go private, I'm not sure what to suggest.

3luckystars · 09/11/2021 15:50

I do believe it. I’m just so sorry you are being treated this way.
