My toddler is 23 months old. In March he had irritable hip. He couldn't weight bare they did a hip X-ray said he was constipated. Took blood and said he had high inflammation and diagnosed irritable hip. Since then my toddler hasn't walked properly. He has a very noticeable weakness on his left side. His knee gives way daily. I took him back to the GP who referred us for physio back in may we still have no appointment for this. The past four weeks he has been waking up crying touching his leg saying ouch. The crying lasts between 1-3 hours until he eventually settles. Should I take him back to the GP or wait for the referral to physiotherapy? Confused

@crumblebug

Hi *@pumpkinspice1* I was posting on your other thread but checked back here to see if there were any updates- realy glad to see that hopefully you've been to A and E today

Please do update us when you can xx

Thank you for checking up on us. What a day it's been. I called 111 this morning when I woke up who advised us a doctor would call back. A doctor called us after 2 hours and advised if we were worried to go to A&E. We are obviously concerned so we did. After a 4 hour wait to see a doctor and then saying observations were completely normal they sent us home. I became very upset and showed them everything on my phone videos photos of the changes ect The nurse agreed she thinks there is something underlying so I refused to leave without a second opinion. The consultant came down and could see I was obviously upset so agreed to see us on this Thursday for blood tests and potentially an X-ray. Thank you so much everyone! xx

@Fullywhelmed

My dd has just recently been diagnosed with Crohn's aged 11. I took her to A and E twice in July and August for unexplained sudden fevers, no energy, paleness, and constant diarrhea (background was waiting on a coeliac blood test as per GP referral). That is the first and second time I have taken her to A and E since 2016, when she had appendicitis. I knew there was something seriously wrong. I also requested bloods be taken just to rule out certain very scary things.

A and E didn't diagnose her but the bloods they had taken meant the consultant, when we finally saw him, knew immediately that it was an IBD. And in the meantime I knew it wasn't leukemia or something similar. At A and E both times they didn't pick up on it even though both visits they mentioned her fast heart rate. Turns out she was dangerously underweight and seriously unwell. In the meantime I have ended up on sertraline after being unable to eat or sleep for weeks and weeks with the fear. I can handle the diagnosis, nasty though it is. It was the not knowing and the powerlessness of not being able to make people understand.

Hope you're daughter is doing okay now too lovely xx

@AnyFucker

Op, please do not be made to feel you are being over dramatic. With this history your child should have had leukaemia, lymphoma, septic arthritis and osteosarcoma ruled out.

Take him to A+E and press again on the intermittent limp, weight loss, unexplained bruising and malaise again.

The chances are it is none of those serious things but it sounds like they need eliminating, for sure.

That is a good outcome, op. A+E are limited in what they can do but the referral to paediatrics in such a timely fashion is totally appropriate.

Good luck

Great news op! You did the right thing ❤️

3luckystars · 24/10/2021 20:45

That’s great! I was thinking about you this morning as I ended up in a and e myself with my daughter!

Well done and that’s great progress!! Hopefully they will get to the bottom of what’s going on this week and your son will be on the mend and back to his little self soon.
Well well done!!

@pumpkinspice1 ive just seen your thread and so glad you pushed for 2nd opinion and youve got an appointment for Thursday. The treatment the GPs have shown is not good.
I had similar issue. Baby 6 weeks old with heart murmur (GP found at 6 week check up) and needed a heart scan. His appointment kept being cancelled due to first lockdown of Covid and no one able to do paeds heart scans. Baby then started having apneas and severe mottled skin and had to go to hospital twice by ambulance after rapid response turned up shocked that he hadnt been seen yet properly. Both times said nothing wrong after checking BP and bloods but could hear the murmur I was told to wait for scan in a few months as there were no appointments available or the paeds heart dr available. I said no theres clearly something wrong. Consultant pulled appointment forward and saw my DS in paeds a and e within 3 days did the scan and found a narrowing of his heart valve. I knew all my sleepless nights of worry about him weren't all for nothing.
Thankfully hes only had one scare since and is now a happy energetic 19 month old but I was not going to have my DS fobbed off due to Covid and a backlog of appointments when I knew something wasnt right. I was definitely that pushy mum but I would do it all over again if I had to.

I hope you get answers very soon and your little one is ok.

Stickytreacle · 24/10/2021 20:57

You have done the right thing, I was called a bloody neurotic mother by a G P, the following week my two year old was admitted to hospital with an hb of 2.3, the lowest the gp had ever seen. Turns out it was leukaemia. Hopefully your little one will be sorted and back to their normal self in no time.

Oh my gosh that must have been awful! This is my biggest fear. What were your little ones symptoms if you don't mind me asking? My son has changed so much it's scary! Hope your little one is doing much better xx

Hope all goes well today OP. Was following your other thread, but very glad to see someone has shown willing to refer you on and investigate further. Hope they get to the bottom of it soon, and that you feel heard.

I really hope you begin to get some answers today. I’ve been following both your posts. I really think getting a blood test is key to the start of diagnosis, so although I hope there is nothing too serious I hope the blood results can start your little one on a treatment pathway. They certainly were key to both my children’s diagnosis.

What a day we've had. We arrived at Worcester hospital this morning at 11am for our son to have blood tests. When we arrived nobody had any recollection of an appointment for us at all. I showed them our discharge papers which stated we would be seen on the 28th in childrens clinic. She checked the system again and said the only appointment they have for us is on the 25th November .I burst into tears. The nurse was lovely and said the doctor must have made a mistake in A&E with the time frame they would see us. She said she would speak to the doctor. We waited nearly an hour and a half for the doctor to come in and say "I told you the wrong date by mistake, I can only apologise and put you at the top of the cancellation list" I asked why I wasn't able to just have at least the blood tests today as my son is getting worse daily. He said it wasn't possible. I left the hospital in tears. I feel like I'm not being taken seriously enough. My only option now is to wait for our private appointment next week or if he continues to deteriorate in the next few days take him to Birmingham childrens hospital? He has no appetite and is just lying around not even playing. Usually toddlers don't sit still. Thank you so much for all your well wishes today xx
