My toddler is 23 months old. In March he had irritable hip. He couldn't weight bare they did a hip X-ray said he was constipated. Took blood and said he had high inflammation and diagnosed irritable hip. Since then my toddler hasn't walked properly. He has a very noticeable weakness on his left side. His knee gives way daily. I took him back to the GP who referred us for physio back in may we still have no appointment for this. The past four weeks he has been waking up crying touching his leg saying ouch. The crying lasts between 1-3 hours until he eventually settles. Should I take him back to the GP or wait for the referral to physiotherapy? Confused

@PesosBandage

Hope all goes well today OP. Was following your other thread, but very glad to see someone has shown willing to refer you on and investigate further. Hope they get to the bottom of it soon, and that you feel heard.
What a day we've had. We arrived at Worcester hospital this morning at 11am for our son to have blood tests. When we arrived nobody had any recollection of an appointment for us at all. I showed them our discharge papers which stated we would be seen on the 28th in childrens clinic. She checked the system again and said the only appointment they have for us is on the 25th November .I burst into tears. The nurse was lovely and said the doctor must have made a mistake in A&E with the time frame they would see us. She said she would speak to the doctor. We waited nearly an hour and a half for the doctor to come in and say "I told you the wrong date by mistake, I can only apologise and put you at the top of the cancellation list" I asked why I wasn't able to just have at least the blood tests today as my son is getting worse daily. He said it wasn't possible. I left the hospital in tears. I feel like I'm not being taken seriously enough. My only option now is to wait for our private appointment next week or if he continues to deteriorate in the next few days take him to Birmingham childrens hospital? He has no appetite and is just lying around not even playing. Usually toddlers don't sit still. Thank you so much for all your well wishes today xx

@beckypv

I really hope you begin to get some answers today. I’ve been following both your posts. I really think getting a blood test is key to the start of diagnosis, so although I hope there is nothing too serious I hope the blood results can start your little one on a treatment pathway. They certainly were key to both my children’s diagnosis.

Honestly I can't even function right now. I'm not the type of person to swear or lose my temper but today I was so close. I know people make mistakes but the fact they couldn't even fit us in for a blood test after driving nearly an hour to the hospital and my toddler had the emla cream still on. I know something is going on with him. My intuition is screaming at me to do more. Sad xx

I'm so sorry you are going through this and am so shocked how they are dismissing you!!!

Mums know best. I'd take him to Birmingham. Do what you can to get that blood test. A massive inconvenience to you and it's not fair

Sending hugs x

Suzi888 · 28/10/2021 21:16

I’d ring 111 and go in the morning to Birmingham or pay privately (if you can- even if just the initial consultation). It speeds things up.

I’m so sorry, you must be exhausted and upset.

Even whilst waiting at the hospital he just lay there curled in a ball. He isn't eating. He is struggling to sleep. I'm beside myself with worry. Sad The nurse was lovely today and she did try to push for the doctor to fit us in but he was having none of it xx

Yes, take him to Birmingham. This is awful. Re-gather yourself and go to Birmingham and refuse to leave until something is done. Wish I lived near Birmingham frankly, because I'd be very happy to go with you for moral support.

We have booked to see a paediatrician privately next week at a cost of £200. I was hoping to at least have the blood test results to go with. It's been a nightmare. How are they not more concerned about everything he has going on? It's so stressful xx

We looked at paying private for a blood test at a cost of £110 but this was purely a blood test they wouldn't be able to analyse for me and my GP said they wouldn't look at them there as they weren't taken by them. It's ridiculous. Waiting lists are so long now due to covid. I think Birmingham is probably the best place xx

Oh that's so lovely thank you. I took a video yesterday that showed my son dragging his leg very obviously and crying in pain. I think if I take this to Birmingham and show them what I'm dealing with along with the other symptoms they will help hopefully xx

@pumpkinspice1 I'm so sorry and so frustrated for you. What a stressful day. I cannot believe what I'm reading that the Dr wouldn't see you when its their fault not yours. Esp driving all that way. Its one thing if its an adult but a toddler thats unwell? I would put in a complaint to PALS asap. That is completely unacceptable to treat a poorly baby like that. Surely the Dr could see that hes unwell.
I would definitely take him to Birmingham children's tomorrow and do not leave until every check has been done. There is clearly something going on for your little boy to be lying around not eating and sleeping. My toddler doesn't sit down or lay down unless hes really unwell so its not normal. I wish as well I lived closer to give you some support.
Sending the biggest hugs 🤗🤗 stay strong hun. xx

The nurse told me to do this also with the complaint. Every time they've agreed he doesn't look well but they've always said to wait for our referral as it isn't an emergency. They don't know my child which is what I keep telling them. Thank you for the support xx

I’ve just read your posts, and have nothing else to add except given the history you have posted I would be going to Birmingham.

InTropicalTrumpsLand · 28/10/2021 22:00

So sorry the situation still hasn't resolved, OP. I didn't want to be specific to not worry you without reason, but seeing as your mum gut is already telling you something is very wrong, would you please ask doctors directly about Ewing Sarcoma? It matches many of your DS's symptoms and might light a fire under the doctors' arses.

And I agree, I'd raise a merry hell with PALS.

abbs1 · 28/10/2021 22:07

@pumpkinspice1 I would say as Im sure others would agree it is an emergency and your gut is telling you the same thing. Your little boy cant tell you whats wrong but his behaviour is ringing alarm bells.
Ive seen a lot of other mums on here take their children in with health worries to a and e and theyve gotten to the bottom of it when multiple GPs and Drs in hospital have fobbed them off.
The negligence that Dr today had shown is crazy. I know the NHS say they are stretched and theres backlogs but your little boys case is urgent and cannot wait another month.
Please keep us posted on your visit to Birmingham hospital and I hope they take you seriously. If you have to ask to speak to management or senior paeds Dr etc. I'm so sorry your going through this. Xx

miniwolf · 28/10/2021 22:10

This is so upsetting to read, I can't believe you've been refused help so many times!! How stressful and worrying for you. Really hope your son gets the medical care he needs op

Sagaris · 28/10/2021 22:15

That's terrible OP, no one knows your DC like you and from what you say there is definitely something wrong. I'd go to Birmingham tomorrow and take someone along for moral support too. Also, as others have said, register a complaint with PALS. Very sorry you are not being taken seriously, hopefully you will be listened to at Birmingham.

Suzi888 · 28/10/2021 22:17

Rest & go tomorrow morning, go early if you can. Take someone pushy with you if possible, you have to insist.

3luckystars · 28/10/2021 22:19

I would ring the gp in the morning again. I would tell them that your son has gotten worse and is disappearing in front of your eyes and you need support and help urgently.

I know you are exhausted but keep pushing. It is absolutely disgraceful that they are all ignoring you. I’m so sorry.
Why didn’t they just take a blood test?

3luckystars · 28/10/2021 22:20

BRING SOMEONE ELSE WITH YOU.

Have a notebook and write down everything, everyone’s names and everything they say from now on.
