Is this a boil?

This is on my daughters eyelid. It started thurs/Friday as a red spot.

Should I take her to GP? NHS website says I should but I'm not even sure if it is a boil or just a giant pimple!

Is this a boil?

It could be. Does it hurt?
It could also be a molluscum spot. Are there any others?
Do get it checked out by your doctor to be sure.

Thanks for the reply Smile

No she only has this one and it's developed after being run down and full of cold all week with a mild fever.

We've used a warm flannel this evening and I've given her ibuprofen as she said it felt very sore.

Looks like visit to GP in the morning.

Take her to docs to be sure. But it looks like it could be a stye. Warm washcloth or flannel a good few times a day should help keeping area and hand touching it clean. Hope she's ok

DinkyDaisy · 05/08/2018 23:18

Ahh- a stye does sound more likely.
Ask a pharmacist and then take their advice re doctors perhaps...

DinkyDaisy · 05/08/2018 23:19

Though are styes usually nearer lashes? [I had a few as a child].
sore spot, boil or stye it needs a once-over to be sure.

Ohyesiam · 05/08/2018 23:22

It’s not a stye, which is blockage of a tear duct.
Because it’s so close to the eye I would have her seen ASAP.

purpleshimmer · 05/08/2018 23:23

Yes I thought stye also but then thought about it not being near her lashes.

Thanks for the advice everyone.

I think I will see pharmacist and see what he says first thing. More chance of getting an appointment with GP if pharmacist recommends it! So hard getting an appointment these days.

DinkyDaisy yeah that is true it is quite high up isn't it. I Agree best to get it checked out to be sure whatever it might be

MrsE87 · 05/08/2018 23:28

PurpleShimmer.. It is ridiculous nowadays your usually better by the time you can get one.

MrsEricBana · 05/08/2018 23:35

Agree pharmacist and go from there. Don't just leave it as on her eye.

purpleshimmer · 05/08/2018 23:35

Oh I know MrsE there's far too much pressure on them.

I've just sneakily checked on her whilst asleep lol..shone my phone light at it and it's much more yellow now!

I'm thinking just a massive spot..yak.
ConfusedWill defo get it checked if it hasn't popped by morning.

Fretfulparent · 05/08/2018 23:40

Possibly a meibomian cyst?

MrsE87 · 05/08/2018 23:44

Bet that's sore bless her. Hope it heals sooner rather than later for her. all the best

purpleshimmer · 05/08/2018 23:48

Thank you MrsE..x

Justgettothepoint · 05/08/2018 23:49

I'd take her to GP as it's on her eye. If it's an infection she might need antibiotics.

LorelaiVictoriaGilmore · 05/08/2018 23:50

Looks like it's a spot or a boil... I think you can see in the photo that its got a head to it.

I would see a gp just because its so close to her eye.

Justgettothepoint · 05/08/2018 23:52

Where I leave the local hospital has an emergency eye clinic where you can just drop in.Not many people are aware its there so maybe your local hospital might have one? Worth checking.

purpleshimmer · 06/08/2018 00:03

Yeah I think it's a good chance it's infection going by her being poorly this week.

It was swelling a little Friday but she's been with her dad all weekend so I was shocked to see it when she came home tonight.

We don't even have a local A&E anymore Sad it has been turned into an urgent treatment centre and only deals with cuts and breaks. Definitely no eye clinic. Such a shame.

purpleshimmer · 06/08/2018 09:47

Ahh...woke up this morning and she shouted that it really hurts! Sad

Came into my room and it's so swollen she looks likes she's been boxing!

Waiting for doctor to give me a call back.

Poor dd! Looks so painful

LorelaiVictoriaGilmore · 06/08/2018 16:28

Did you manage to speak to the doctor OP?

TwoGinScentedTears · 06/08/2018 16:31

How's your dd now @purpleshimmer ?

purpleshimmer · 06/08/2018 16:57

We've just got home from the docs. He says it's a boil/abscess and very infected so has given her antibiotics.

He says to watch it closely and go back if no improvement. He didn't want to touch it but said he may have to lance it if it doesn't go. All her skin is now red and tender around her whole eye so I have to watch for this spreading.

She's ok though...apart from not liking the taste of the medicine
Thank you all for askingThanks

OP posts:
Justgettothepoint · 06/08/2018 20:39

Glad she's feeling better OP.

MrsE87 · 06/08/2018 22:44

Oh no bless her must be so painful. Hope her meds kick in soon for her Bear
