I'll be brief because I'm shattered.
Fever for two days starting last Monday. Two different diagnosis from doctors and a week of antibiotics as it was still spreading. Antibiotics now finished today and this picture was taken this morning. It's now spreading to the other hand since yesterday.

Any ideas?

Ps Ds is 10 months

Oh god, the saga continues. What are the chances it's spread to his nappy area? We have pimples. Poor kid. I'm thinking nappy rash from the antibiotics but dh is convinced (after googling 'herpes nappy rash's) that the virus is on the move again.

It has been confirmed as 'type one' herpes, which is cold.sores but the dermatologist said it can spread elsewhere.

Hes red raw and squeals any time you try to wipe him. We have metanium cream as recommended by pharmacist for nappy rash

Oh no! Can you swish him in water to clean him up?poor kid.

BrokenBattleDroid · 09/12/2017 17:37

Spotty nappy rash is often thrush. Maybe google that and see if it matches up? If you have any canesten you can use that on it, then let it soak in before applying metanium.

Poor lad, fingers crossed its not the herpes virus down there. If you think it is though, I'd ring the ward that were dealing with him before and ask their advice.

BrokenBattleDroid · 09/12/2017 17:38

Sorry, the dermatologist not the ward. Would have to wait until Monday I guess but hopefully it wouldn't progress too much before then.

MozTheMonster · 09/12/2017 18:02

The nappy rash could be caused by the antibiotics. DC had a very strong course of antibiotics as a baby. The antibiotics destroyed his bum. Timodine Cream is what you need and lots of nappy off time, so bum can be aired.

Do you think I could post a censored picture or would that be awful?

Flowers you've both been through the mill. I hope it clears up with the metanium and that's the end of it all.

RandomMess · 09/12/2017 19:29

You can get it on prescription but you can also buy it over the counter 'sprilon' spray. It's designed to protect bed sores - you don't have to touch them to put it on and as it's a thin layer it seems better than the thick creams etc.

Thanks your poor DS

Prusik · 09/12/2017 19:30

DH agreed you guys have been amazing and said to post a picture to see what you all think.

I would assume herpes due to his diagnosis but one of mine got Strep A - perianal strep, horrific time took them a year to diagnose and triggered her developing psoriasis SadSadAngry

Your poor boy. No advice to give but I hope he’s better soon. X

What a sore bum Sad.

Are the whitish bits on each red spot residual cream or part of the rash?

Prusik · 09/12/2017 19:45

To be honest, I can't work it out if it's cream or rash. They were blood blisters/spots earlier

This is a long shot, but if not already mentioned, then I would suggest maybe looking into Kawasaki Disease. Don't panic at some of what you might read though. That's very worse case scenario & nothing like our experience of it.

DD was thought to have this & had similar symptoms to what you have described her. Her hands didn't look so infected though, more like a sudden & bad outbreak of eczema on her hands, ending up with the skin peeling off completely on both hands, this happened about 10 days after the initial fever & sore throat, which is apparently a clue to that diagnosis. DD was throughly checked over several times over since then & it hasn't affected her in any way.

Good luck OP

RockinHippy · 09/12/2017 20:08

Ignore me note to self RTFTBlush

I'm glad you've final got a diagnosis & treatment 🤞 crossed for you all & your poor DS that it's better real soon.

A suggestion that might help as I have a friend who swears by it & it works on the other type of herpes. Lavender aromatherapy oil is a natural antiseptic, antiviral & antibiotic p,, it's good for stress & sleep too & is perfectly safe even fir a newborn. The friend with herpes uses it topically instead of the drugs they were prescribed as it works just as well without the side effects & DH swears by it for cold sores. I'm wondering if mixing it with some sterile boiled water, shaking up & lightly spraying over his rashes might help it heal faster.

Good luck

BrokenBattleDroid · 09/12/2017 22:33

Hmmm well it does look obviously like thrush has in my kids nappies (although I'm no expert). Id go for lots of nappy free time and metaniuml over the weekend and get straight onto derm secretary Mon morning to explain. If they don't help then emergency gp appt. You don't want it to get out of control like the hands (not saying it will, but it's a reasonable concern).

BrokenBattleDroid · 09/12/2017 22:33

Sorry does NOT look like thrush

Bumdishcloths · 09/12/2017 23:16

Don't mess with essential oils on babies- a) it needs to be mixed with a carrier oil, water won't dilute it and b) there's not enough research into dosage and harmful effects in children. Just because it's natural, doesn't mean it's safe - and I certainly wouldn't apply anything (creams, oils or otherwise) to broken skin without seeking medical advice first.

Prusik · 10/12/2017 05:15

I think the loose plan is to see how it's developed overnight and make a decision from there. We won't use anything other than the nappy cream until we know what we're dealing with. If it's herpes no amount of natural products will do anything anyway, I guess nor will nappy cream.

I'm praying it's just bog standard nappy rash.

Ds is uncharacteristically still asleep. Not like him to sleep through. He's either growing up or feeling poorly Hmm 11 months now and 7 weeks till ds2 is due!

I think it’s possible it’s just normal nappy rash. Is it improving with metanium? If it’s normal nappy rash metanium starts working pretty quickly. I’d say if there’s no improvement at all it’s probably something else.

TuckMyWin · 10/12/2017 07:23

Could be fungal. Metanium never does anything for fungal nappy rash ime, but you can buy canestan cream over the counter that will sort it out if it is.
