Mums with toddlers, does this look ok?

Realise it's not the best move posting online for advice but I can't get into my Doctors for weeks with DD (2) She has a huge tummy that never goes down. I guess I just want some reassurance that it's normal. She has a small lump in her neck that I'm guessing is a node and she sweats a lot when she sleeps and is complaining of knee ache a lot. She was 2 in March. Does her tummy look normal to you mums of toddlers?

Not normal. Night sweats and joint pain can go with gastro allergies/celiac, so may be connected, but GP may not know that. I

A doctors appointment is a good idea but if she seems fine in herself and its been going on for some time, I would think it can wait until tomorrow.

NotAgainYoda · 20/09/2017 16:13

I agree it's a large tummy

Mine are teens now but that looks big to me

Good luck at the GP

rackhampearl · 20/09/2017 16:30

Thanks everyone I'm gonna hold off and call right away in the morning. I'm very anxious now though. She's sleeping at the minute and I keep having a feel and her tummy is very squishy almost like a stress ball. She doesn't eat any bread or cereals, she likes to eat things like olives, hummus, bananas, baked beans and chicken breast. She doesn't get diarrhoea and never had it as baby nor was she a very sicky baby. Her skin is nice and soft and she never gets rashes. I'm just confused, I'm hoping it's just a case of a toddlers pot belly. The only symptoms I can think of is the lymph in the neck which is visible when she laughs or cries, about the size of a pea, the sweating from her head on a night, her hair is soaked when she wakes up and she always wakes up groggy and not very happy and she keeps saying 'my knee, my knee' i have no idea if they're all connected or not. I guess I'll have to wait for what GP has to say.

Here's another pic. I don't think it looks quite as big on this does it???

Hope u get seen

Ttbb · 20/09/2017 16:43

Doesn't look normal to me but both of mine where quite slim so it might just be a general build difference. Her arms and legs look very normal so it's not like it could be distended from hunger but it also doesn't seem like it's just how she stores her fat, the shape would suggest that there is something behind her abdominal wall pushing her tummy out. Does she get a lot of gas maybe? Or is she just eating shift volume of food/drinking a lot of fluids? Is there anything else to suggest a problem? Does she have tummy pains for example?

IWantACheeseburger · 20/09/2017 16:43

I would still get her checked but just wanted to add that both of my kids are really sweaty especially their hair at night so that's not necessarily something to worry about.

PotteringAlong · 20/09/2017 16:55

It does look just as big on that picture - you're clutching at straws here op Flowers

Please get her seen tomorrow.

rackhampearl · 20/09/2017 17:27

Not tummy problems, she trumps a normal amount I would say and they aren't smelly or loud. She eats really well and never complains of pain just in her knee. Her poop is always large and smelly though. Or sometimes little nuggets, but she never shows any signs of discomfort when pooping.

HeyRoly · 20/09/2017 17:57

Honestly, her tummy does look distended from that angle as well.

It's the way it sticks out from quite a high point, right from where her ribs join at the sternum, which rings alarm bells for me. That sets it apart from a normal toddler pot belly IMHO.

Lozmatoz · 20/09/2017 18:31

That tummy is just what little girls' tummies in our family (and several friends) look like.

StealthPolarBear · 20/09/2017 19:18

Really?

rackhampearl · 20/09/2017 20:40

Hi again Ladies. Tonight is gonna drag by. I've had a friend message me on fb who's son has a Wilms Tumour and she said to get checked out right away. DD has had this belly for so long that I will never forgive myself that I've left it too long to get seen. I feel sick, I'm actually praying that it's just something like too much fibre /bloating. I should have got this checked ages ago.

OP posts:
tkband3 · 20/09/2017 20:47

Afraid I can't offer any advice on the tumour you mention, but the minute I saw your DD's tummy, I was taken back 11 years. She looks exactly the same as DD1 before she was diagnosed with coeliac disease. The poos you describe sound very familiar too. Without wishing to go into too much detail, are they fairly pale in colour, and slightly greasy in appearance?

I would definitely ask the GP for a referral to a paediatric gastroenterologist and for blood test to rule out coeliac disease.

BurningOutNow · 20/09/2017 20:53

Not to panic you but please get her seen immediately. There are a few symptoms there which are concerning, and although they may be nothing at all, they do need checking out Flowers

CoCoCoconut · 20/09/2017 21:03

Aw, OP, I understand how you feel but please don't beat yourself up over not getting her seen earlier. Earlier, you weren't worried. Now you are, so you are getting her seen now.

Toddlers do tend to have normal healthy pot bellies, and it's completely understandable that you would have worked from the assumption that your dd just happened to have a pronounced one. It's very hard when you see their bodies every single day to notice if something seems out of the ordinary. It becomes ordinary looking to you, of course it does.

You had a niggle of concern and got reassurance from people you know. The niggle remained so you sought out perspective from here. Your own instincts have now been backed up by others who say they'd also want reassurance, so you're bringing her to the doctor tomorrow. The actions of a good and loving mother. Don't beat yourself up.

I hope you get some sleep and that by this time tomorrow you're feeling much relieved. Flowers

rackhampearl · 20/09/2017 21:07

Thank you CoCo ... my anxiety is through the roof and I've got tears in my eyes, shes sleeping soundly in my bed right now and I've asked DH to go up and feel her tummy and then back near her kidneys. I don't know what the hell thats going to achieve, I guess I'm just in panic mode. Tomorrow first thing I am taking her into the GP. I'm hoping for the best and at the very least some kind of intolerances. Thank you all so much. I will keep you posted.

GlitteryFluff · 20/09/2017 21:10

It's probably nothing to worry about op but if definitely get her seen Flowers

Hunkle · 20/09/2017 21:14

I would definately get it checked out. I hope she is o.k, sorry I havn't read through properly, but going to the loo 4 times in one day seems quite a lot.

stripes1 · 20/09/2017 21:16

I would echo the suggestions up thread of coeliac disease. My son had a pot belly that I was putting down to normal 'toddler tummy' it wasn't till it had gone that I realised how big it had been.

stripes1 · 20/09/2017 21:17

And he also had lots of large, smelly poos.

busytimesahead · 20/09/2017 21:18

My daughters looks like that, the consultant mentioned it when she saw her for asthma/chest infections and said has her tummy always looked like that. She then asked for some allergy blood tests but all came back clear - her tummy does stick out and is quite hard by the evening, but no blood tests have shown anything and presume she will grow out of it.
Hope it is nothing.

rackhampearl · 20/09/2017 21:21

4 times this morning Hunkle
By the end of the day she had done 9 , 5 in pull ups and 4 in the potty, all very large and smelly, I always have to put the wax burner on as she stinks so bad. Is this sounding like celiacs then do you think? My DM always worries about Cystic Fibrosis when she smells DDs poop, as my Sister died from it 4 years ago, but DD had her heel prick test and results came back normal.

OP posts:
pigletpie29 · 20/09/2017 21:21

My little girl's can get that big but she does suffer some from constipation and is on treatment for it. After meals it really expands! It's unlikely to be anything serious but food allergies make sense.
