Mums with toddlers, does this look ok?

Realise it's not the best move posting online for advice but I can't get into my Doctors for weeks with DD (2) She has a huge tummy that never goes down. I guess I just want some reassurance that it's normal. She has a small lump in her neck that I'm guessing is a node and she sweats a lot when she sleeps and is complaining of knee ache a lot. She was 2 in March. Does her tummy look normal to you mums of toddlers?

Has her tummy always been like that?
If it's suddenly changed I'd ask for a GP appointment sooner.
If she's always had a cute 'podge' and isn't in any pain or discomfort she's probably fine... but I'd keep the current GP apt for peace of mind x

rackhampearl · 20/09/2017 12:07

Just called up and the surgery is closed for medical training. Should I wait until tomorrow do you think ?

I've just realised you've also said she's had a problem with sweating, and on looking again, I do agree she seems bloated. How is she with her eating?

Agree also with not letting the doctors fob you off.

Hope you manage to get an app and everything goes well

StealthPolarBear · 20/09/2017 12:08

Whens your health visitor clinic?
I am sure tomorrow will be OK.. Does it hurt her if you press it? Can she sleep on her front?

PolarBearGoingSomewhere · 20/09/2017 12:09

Do you have a walk-in centre nearby? If it's been like this a week or so then another 18 hours probably won't make a difference but it's a call only you can make.

SparklyMagpie · 20/09/2017 12:12

Yes can you call your HV?

HeyRoly · 20/09/2017 12:14

That looks quite distended to me.

Sounds she's she's usually quite well in herself, so it can wait until tomorrow.

tocas · 20/09/2017 12:14

How long has it been that way?

user1234566 · 20/09/2017 12:16

Looks bloated to me. My 2 year old is allergic to gluten, soy and dairy and if she accidentally has one of those 3 things her belly ends up looking like this. Hope you get some answers

MrsMotherHen · 20/09/2017 12:17

i would go to a walk in centre gp out of hours. That is not normal.

Ring 111 and get an appointment with an out of hours doctor. That's doesn't look right to me

dontquit · 20/09/2017 12:21

My oldest daughters tummy was just like that all the time. Regular bowel movements although it was usually slightly worse if she hadn't gone for a while and in the evenings. She was normal/thin elsewhere-face arms and legs. Always had to buy her flowy tops to try hide it!
Anyway did start to get a bit concerned after she turned 3 but because she was well I never had it looked into. She's just over 4 now, has stretched out and the pot belly has disappeared nearly overnight!
2nd daughter is completely different. Never had a pot belly. She's 2. So all different I guess.

If she is well otherwise I wouldn't bother with go apt but if you are in getting the other things checked mention it then.

PetalMettle · 20/09/2017 12:26

I'm not the best person to judge as my 2yo is skinny but that doesn't look normal to me. I'd get it checked out. If she seems happy otherwise I'd wait till tomorrow

GaryBarlowsTaxReturn · 20/09/2017 12:32

Hi op. My son is the same. I've been told it's because toddler stomachs sit lower down. As they grow it moves upward & becomes less obvious. However if you are concerned then ask your GP.

Rufus27 · 20/09/2017 12:32

Looks very like DS (same age as your DD) when he's constipated. He can be constipated/blocked up even when he is still passing small solids, if that makes sense. It's the sign we need to up the Movicol, up his fluids and add dates/figs to his porridge (only way to get dried fruit in!). For DS, it's not a chronic issue, but not serious; however, I am glad we saw a doctor for it initially and think you should too. DS has also been prescribed Gavison for when he's bloated but not at all constipated.

rackhampearl · 20/09/2017 12:43

I will look for a walk in centre via google, new to the area. If not I will call up right away in the morning.

This doesn't look normal, I hope you get to see/speak to someone soon

silkpyjamasallday · 20/09/2017 13:37

My DB looked exactly like that as a toddler, he has a number of food intolerances and allergies that were only discovered when he was tested as a teenager, he isn't a coeliac but it runs in my family and the distended stomach is a common symptom. He also had eczema which was probably caused by the allergies but GP didn't say that at the time. He never seemed to be in discomfort so I suppose that's why my DM just assumed it was just his shape. If she seems herself then you are probably ok to wait until tomorrow but I would get her seen and checked over as the neck lump is concerning. I hope you get your answers soon

rackhampearl · 20/09/2017 13:54

Thanks everyone. She's definitely ok in herself and not really a poorly child which is reassuring. She's only ever had like one chest infection after playing with a poorly neighbour. She poos constantly though, they are solid but soft, like well lubed iykwim?? She is small for her age still fitting into 12-18 month aside from her huge tummy. It feels soft and doesn't cause her any pain when I've pressed on it. I'm gonna get seen tomorrow.

HeyRoly · 20/09/2017 13:57

Hmm, pooing constantly, distended tummy, small for age, night sweats - that all points to something being wrong. I think coeliac will definitely need to be ruled out.

Good luck OP. Hope they take you seriously.

CallMeDollFace · 20/09/2017 14:03

I would also get that looked at. Just a little outside the normal range perhaps. Worth finding out for peace of mind.

lunar1 · 20/09/2017 14:06

My sons stomach went like this once but he was also unwell and in pain. I rang my Gp for advice and was sent directly to A&E. He had an obstruction.

Your dd is probably not the same as she is well, but I'd keep a very close eye until you see a dr. If you are waiting for tomorrow make sure you get an emergency appointment.

GrasswillbeGreener · 20/09/2017 14:22

Agree that looks like something worth getting your GP to have a look at. I wouldn't take it to urgent / OOH unless there is something newly worrying but do ask for a GP appointment as soon as they can get you one - I know that it can be difficult negotiating something realistic.

Both of mine had pot bellies till about 3, but I agree that looks a bit different and I wouldn't want to be reassured until someone experienced has been "hands on" and examined her.

PurplePickledPlums · 20/09/2017 14:25

No, sorry, not normal. FWIW that looks likes parasites of some variety. She may need worming. I'd want a stool sample checked. That's not for an HV you need a doctor.
