Pics attached: is this normal?

Hi,

I am very worried about this so please bear with me.

I have noticed that my daughter (3.5) has a slight ridge/groove on the left hand side of her forehead. Looking back at old photos of her, it is evident that this has always been there.

However, for the last couple of months, I have noticed a fleshy lump when she raises her eyebrows or in certain bright lights. You can see this on the picture I have attached.

Anyway, I have seen the doctor about this A few times and she has said she said this is 100 percent just the countering of her forehead and that it's completely normal - she just has an asymmetrical forehead which is also normal.

But very time I see it I feel sick to my stomach with worry. I should point out that I trust my gp and she knows how much I worry. But in the photos of my daughter her as a baby, the lump doesn't look as prominent and I didn't even notice it as a baby.

My daughter has always had a fringe and only recently I've started to pin it back but I can notice it in certain lights or if she pulls certain faces. In the pic attached she is pulling a face, in the second pic, she is not.

Looking for reassurance.

I think it's normal, but your level of anxiety isn't. Have you sought help regarding your anxiety?

Looks fine to me. I have one of these little fleshy lumps on my forehead too. It's always been there and causes no problems.

Yes I have had anxiety for a long time. I feel ok in general, but this is making me terribly worried. We have been in Legoland over the bank holiday and when my daughter was on the rides etc, and her hair was back, I could notice the shape of her forehead and the "lump" even more, so it has triggered my worry.

I have no idea what you are actually worrying about as I can't see a ridge.
Are you seeking treatment for your anxiety?

Completely normal. Most people have this to varying degrees because it comes as a result of how heads form as foetuses.

Wolfiefan - can you see the lump/ bump I am referring to on the left centre just above her eyebrow?

That's what is worrying me. Sorry, I am calling it a ridge as it there is a bump along the ridge/groove that she has in her forehead

I can see the ridge in that last photo but it's just the contour of her temple, it looks a little deeper than some people have.

You do need to get on top of the anxiety though. I do know how it feels, I had PND which manifested as health anxiety and I was constantly poking and prodding at DS, convinced something was wrong. It's not life to have.

Yes. I am ok in general. It's because it is on the one side only that I am worrying. If her forehead was symmetrical and the bumps were both sides I wouldn't be concerned.

It's only really noticeable in the bath under the bright lights and looks like a lump then. But the gp has said its 100 percent just the normal contouring of her head. I see the doctor, feel relieved and ok and then every time I notice it, my stomach drops and I start worrying again.

User, has your gp mentioned councilling or medication for your anxiety? Only asking because mine went unchecked for 5 years before I had a breakdown this year obsessive over minor and major things I perceived to mean my children were seriously Ill. Please Dont become how I was and seek help if its distressing you this much

You aren't ok though. You are obsessing about something that I can't even see. You aren't well Op.

Thank you. I have had anxiety on and off for 14 years after losing my mother to cancer. She also had cancer when I was a child so I guess this is always on my mind.

I am quite laid back in general at the moment and haven't been worrying needlessly in general over the daughter. But I do tend to catastrophise. I can see that most people would take the doctor saying "100 percent normal" as final, whereas I am still doubting it xx

That should have said "my daughter" not "the daughter". Silly phone

Wolfie, can you see the lumps and bumps I am referring to in the first pictures I posted? The lump/bump is left centre (right centre wen you're looking at the picture). I appreciate this is something minor to others but I can definitely see it.

I wouldn't go as far as to say I am not well. I am first time mum who just wants to make sure I am doing everything right by my daughter. I know plenty of mothers who panic over more than me :)

What help have you had for your anxiety?

Taking your daughter back and forth the doctor to have something which you've been told multiple times is entirely normal is a little worrying.

There is good help out there if you ask for it. Anxiety is horrible.

No. You're not well at all. The GP said it is normal. And now you are posting pictures of your child on a public forum asking for opinions. We could be surgeons or librarians or dragon riding drug dealers.
Deal with the anxiety. Please. For your sake and that of your child.

None of us have completely symmetrical faces.

Pulling her hair back regularly to take a picture is going to give her a complex.

I can't see anything in the photos but I know what you mean about worrying about things you can't explain or that look unusual. I do the same. I think it's partly a natural parent worry, part having access to google and partly a touch of anxiety. I try and judge if it is one of those or something I need to get another opinion on.
