DD has a bruise that isn't going away.

8yo dd complained a few weeks ago that she had a bruise on her inner thigh. She said she couldn't remember how she did it. It looked very much like a mark made by her little brother pinching her which on occasion, when frustrated, he does. He also tends to aim for her thigh or the tops of her arms. She's also as active as most 8yos and rides her scooter everywhere, occasionally crashing and bruising her legs. I put it down to that.

A week ago she mentioned it was still there and I had a good look and it had faded to a browny colour but I could feel a lump directly underneath it. Around the size of a pea. She said it was sore.

A week later and it's still there, same size, sort of a reddy colour but she says it's more sore than it was. She does admit though that she squeezes it because there's a lump underneath it and it 'feels funny'. I don't know if that's exacerbating things.

I have a terrible health anxiety, particularly where the dc are concerned and I am jumping to the absolute worst conclusions. Because that helps, obviously. Hmm

She's not ill, not tired or not herself. She's perfectly well. She's also had other run of the mill, fell off her scooter or got whacked with a golf club bruises in the last couple of weeks and they've cleared up within a couple of days. It's just this bruise on her thigh.

I've made a GP appointment for after school today as it's preying on my mind but is there a chance this is absolutely nothing and my sky high anxiety and terror is unnecessary? I need to stop googling.

Good morning.

Sorry I disappeared yesterday. Everything truly caught up to us I think. DD came over a bit funny at school and was sick. I strongly suspect that it's a delayed reaction to last week. She obviously went back to school 24hrs after the procedure and has been very busy indeed, including on Tuesday doing PE, swimming and rugby. She said she just felt very hot all of a sudden and then very sick. She has been absolutely fine ever since, eating and drinking and reading and watching Once Upon a Time on Netflix. I also very strongly suspect she's about to start her periods. So today is a duvet day for both of us. We have a stack of books each, snacks and I might even watch that evil queen, snow white thingy mentioned above with her.

Can I just say a heartfelt thank you to absolutely everybody who posted on here and who sent me PMs offering support and practical help with the logistics of Birmingham and travel. I simply don't have the words to tell you how every single one of you has made a difference to how I've handled this. It was an extremely kind thing you all did in taking the time to talk, check in, support and reassure. I am so grateful.

And I'm still teetotal btw. Can you imagine if I had necked the wine? I did eat fish and chips though. And mushy peas. And curry sauce. And I don't care at all Grin

Fabulous news. Brilliant outcome. Massive sighs of relief I hope.

Note down all the questions in the world. Presumably you'll have another appointment soon. Make sure you ask them then but in the meantime lots of wine and chocolate.

Good grief-what a lot of things to process!! Well done on sobriety.

Hooray for weird lumps with no discernible purpose!

So glad to hear your dd is okay (and your ds is getting over that horrendous sounding chesty nastiness). I don't think I've posted on here before (unless I have) but I have to admire your daughter's strength of character and humour. She sounds a lot like you x

Hi SoH! You probably don't remember me, but we met once at Harry Potter World on the MN review trip.

I have only just come across your thread and had my heart in my mouth reading it. I am so pleased that it has turned out to be "nothing". Your experience reminds me so much of mine with my son 2 years ago, so I wish I'd seen your thread to post before to reassure you. Basically my son was "wonky"- he had blood tests and an x-ray and then suddenly we were on the dreaded 2 week referral. MRIs and CT scans and more blood tests and details being sent to specialists for meetings. Anyway, eventually they decided he'd had a stress fracture of his femur which had partially healed before the x-ray, hence it being hard to diagnose. And it was all fine. I still shudder when I think back to that time and the dread and fear that went with it (i.e. going to what I thought might be his last harvest assembly...). So you have my sympathy. I am so glad your story has a happy ending too Flowers
