DD has a bruise that isn't going away.

8yo dd complained a few weeks ago that she had a bruise on her inner thigh. She said she couldn't remember how she did it. It looked very much like a mark made by her little brother pinching her which on occasion, when frustrated, he does. He also tends to aim for her thigh or the tops of her arms. She's also as active as most 8yos and rides her scooter everywhere, occasionally crashing and bruising her legs. I put it down to that.

A week ago she mentioned it was still there and I had a good look and it had faded to a browny colour but I could feel a lump directly underneath it. Around the size of a pea. She said it was sore.

A week later and it's still there, same size, sort of a reddy colour but she says it's more sore than it was. She does admit though that she squeezes it because there's a lump underneath it and it 'feels funny'. I don't know if that's exacerbating things.

I have a terrible health anxiety, particularly where the dc are concerned and I am jumping to the absolute worst conclusions. Because that helps, obviously. Hmm

She's not ill, not tired or not herself. She's perfectly well. She's also had other run of the mill, fell off her scooter or got whacked with a golf club bruises in the last couple of weeks and they've cleared up within a couple of days. It's just this bruise on her thigh.

I've made a GP appointment for after school today as it's preying on my mind but is there a chance this is absolutely nothing and my sky high anxiety and terror is unnecessary? I need to stop googling.

I once hit a spot on my back that had afterwards a clear bruise for two months and later left like a darker skin for about four extra months!

I also had a sebaceous cyst under the skin on my arm, basically like a pea of fatty residue that had solidified and that formed a bruise immediately above. They gave me a cream to massage and try to dissolve it, but I had had it for months and months by then, so the cream didn't help. We decided to take it out surgically just to check but we were all pretty convinced it was nothing. So we did, and it was nothing, as expected.

Take her to GP for reassurance, but probably not a serious issue

Good news, sounds like she's got A vascular malformation ...haemangioma?....,which they may want to remove, just so it doesn't grow any bigger or become damaged if knocked in future....I have one on my leg Confused

Morning all. I'll write a better and longer message later. I just wanted to say thank you for your messages overnight before I head off to work.

I haven't really slept. I feel most discombobulated. I keep googling vascular malformation and it looks and sounds nothing like dd's lump and its presentation. What do I know though? It's not a hemangioma stopyourhavering, they're slightly different apparently but fit into the same basic group of lesions.

Why do I feel so wobbly? I should be celebrating. I feel a bit battered and vulnerable. Wtf is that as a reaction?

I'm off to work. I will be back later.

Vascular malformations are pretty common in EDS. I have a cavernous hemangioma on my leg-it looks like a really nasty purple bruise as it's quite a bit below the surface. I wouldn't worry too much about it not looking like the pictures as there are many many different types and some are really quite rare. I would chase up the EDS thing though. Vascular malformations would point towards a true collagen disorder rather than just hypermobility and that does need watching in the long term. @SaulGood

Adrenaline crash, plus you've been living under the stress of 'what if' and having to hold it together which is both physically and emotionally exhausting...your reaction is perfectly normal.

Completely normal reaction but now you need to step away from Google. Two excellent hospitals have done loads of tests and have the answer. You are out the other side. Be kind to yourself and enjoy your amazing DD. X
