DD has a bruise that isn't going away.

8yo dd complained a few weeks ago that she had a bruise on her inner thigh. She said she couldn't remember how she did it. It looked very much like a mark made by her little brother pinching her which on occasion, when frustrated, he does. He also tends to aim for her thigh or the tops of her arms. She's also as active as most 8yos and rides her scooter everywhere, occasionally crashing and bruising her legs. I put it down to that.

A week ago she mentioned it was still there and I had a good look and it had faded to a browny colour but I could feel a lump directly underneath it. Around the size of a pea. She said it was sore.

A week later and it's still there, same size, sort of a reddy colour but she says it's more sore than it was. She does admit though that she squeezes it because there's a lump underneath it and it 'feels funny'. I don't know if that's exacerbating things.

I have a terrible health anxiety, particularly where the dc are concerned and I am jumping to the absolute worst conclusions. Because that helps, obviously. Hmm

She's not ill, not tired or not herself. She's perfectly well. She's also had other run of the mill, fell off her scooter or got whacked with a golf club bruises in the last couple of weeks and they've cleared up within a couple of days. It's just this bruise on her thigh.

I've made a GP appointment for after school today as it's preying on my mind but is there a chance this is absolutely nothing and my sky high anxiety and terror is unnecessary? I need to stop googling.

So glad to hear DS is on the mend. Hope DD isn't too uncomfortable with her bruise, but from what you've told me about her, I'm guessing she probably finds it fascinating Grin

What a lovely thing for your DH to do. Mine also has a generally positive frame of mind and it does help take the edge off my anxiety if ever it gets a bit much. DH just can't see the point of worrying when the likelihood is that everything is absolutely fine - worrying in the meantime does nobody any good. It all makes perfect sense, but easier said than done!

Continuing to think of you. You are handling this brilliantly, and I am really really looking forward to an 'it's all fine' post from you in the near future!

A consultant just rang! He opened with the line "sorry to call so late but I thought you'd like some good news".

The biopsy shows a vascular malformation. I asked THREE TIMES if that means benign and he assured me that it does. Of course he then said "everything we removed is benign and everything we have seen on scans shows nothing indicative of malignancy and the pathologists and radiographers and oncology discussed her today and were all happy that it appears benign but of course we need to remove it and examine the entire area to be sure".

He then said I should feel free to open wine AND chocolate in his opinion.

So, chances are it's all okay right? It's going to be benign?

I can get excited about a Christmas full of joy with my fabulous, brilliant DD?

That's just the most fabulous news ever. Oh my goodness, I've been trying to read through this entire thread the last couple of days, and couldn't believe your most recent post, I didn't think I would actually catch up to the start of the conclusion. So pleased for you all.

I hope you all recover from the colds, ds from the croup and hope dd continues benignly to be as fab as she sounds.

MyBrilliantDisguise · 26/09/2017 20:25

Oh that's made me cry! What a lovely phone call for him to make and for you to receive!

SaulGood · 26/09/2017 20:31

How the heck is it vascular though? It's in the fat layer and they've said all along there's no vein involvement.

They biopsied the correct bit, right? I'm a bit confused. These people with letters after their names are probably qualified to know better than me.

I'm not sure how I feel. My heart is racing and I think I'm still trapped a bit under the weight of it all.

She's okay. Right?

Vascular just means something that carries fluid of some kind to tissues. Bodies are full of vascular tissue. Great news.
