DD has a bruise that isn't going away.

8yo dd complained a few weeks ago that she had a bruise on her inner thigh. She said she couldn't remember how she did it. It looked very much like a mark made by her little brother pinching her which on occasion, when frustrated, he does. He also tends to aim for her thigh or the tops of her arms. She's also as active as most 8yos and rides her scooter everywhere, occasionally crashing and bruising her legs. I put it down to that.

A week ago she mentioned it was still there and I had a good look and it had faded to a browny colour but I could feel a lump directly underneath it. Around the size of a pea. She said it was sore.

A week later and it's still there, same size, sort of a reddy colour but she says it's more sore than it was. She does admit though that she squeezes it because there's a lump underneath it and it 'feels funny'. I don't know if that's exacerbating things.

I have a terrible health anxiety, particularly where the dc are concerned and I am jumping to the absolute worst conclusions. Because that helps, obviously. Hmm

She's not ill, not tired or not herself. She's perfectly well. She's also had other run of the mill, fell off her scooter or got whacked with a golf club bruises in the last couple of weeks and they've cleared up within a couple of days. It's just this bruise on her thigh.

I've made a GP appointment for after school today as it's preying on my mind but is there a chance this is absolutely nothing and my sky high anxiety and terror is unnecessary? I need to stop googling.

oh you poor thing, you've all had more than your fair share of rubbish - hope that he's feeling better now. Flowers

countingdown · 22/09/2017 09:51

I'm sore you're having such a rotten time at the moment. I hope things improve for you all.

SaulGood · 22/09/2017 09:58

His breathing is really noisy and he's totally lost his voice. Hopefully, the steroids will kick in and he'll pick up. At the moment he's worrying me and not in an anxious overreacting way. We've all had the most hideous colds since school started back and I am mostly deaf and have sinusitis as a result. DH has got a chest infection. As colds go, it's a fecking humdinger. DS had pneumonia as a baby and as a result, as a toddler ended up with a bad chest every time he had a cold. He had seemingly outgrown it it with no chest problems after the age of 4. This is like a blast from the past. Barking, wheezing, blue lips. It's horrible to see.

Am so sorry you're having such a tough time. I suffered myself with croup when younger and remember it well. He will be ok but take him straight back if you're worried x

alltouchedout · 22/09/2017 10:06

Oh, croup is horrible. Both ds2 and ds3 have been blue lighted to A&E with it once each. I'm not sure I have ever experienced fear on the scale I did when I was on the phone to the out of hours GP about ds2 and he heard the stridor and told me to end the call and dial 999, now.

Everything crossed for good news regarding your DD, and I hope your DS is doing well Flowers

misdee · 22/09/2017 11:01

Hope the steroids kick in quickly and ds is much better soon.

Last year was full on hospitals. And then the kids all had a run of accidents so it became a running joke on fb that I was always checking into the local hospital. Its only when it's not the local one that people get concerned. Yesterday we were at orthonics with dd6. Which is in the antenatal dept!! So a quick joke that I was in there and not having baby#8. Got to have a laugh and joke.

Anyway, try and get some rest, and look after yourself as well. Hope dd isn't too soon.

I do think there ought to be a 'repeat visit' system for some families! When you have proved that you are not a hypochondriac, then you should be issued a free pass to roll up and park and get treatment without passing go! Joking, obviously, but I've been through phases where we were such regulars I felt we deserved a reserved parking space!

Whinesalot · 22/09/2017 12:32

It never rains but it pours.

When will you get the results back from the biopsy?

SaulGood · 22/09/2017 13:23

I will be so firmly round the bend after all this that they'll name a wing of the hospital after me. Or at least a bench.

The school were most confused this morning when I explained that DD was at school but DS wasn't. They kept telling me I'd got it the wrong way round.

DS has always been quite chesty which we were told to expect. He was a bit early and had pneumonia so middle of the night barking and blue lips were once the norm but he was outgrowing it. DH was on the phone to 111 while i packed a bag and organised money and phones. I knew as soon as they heard him they'd have us straight to the hospital. He was gasping and the stridor was as bad as I've ever heard it. The steroids have kicked in. He's up and eating chicken soup and talking. That's steroids though. He feels super human right now but looks completely done in.

Biopsy results are usually 7-10 days and I know they'll have a multidisciplinary meeting once they have them. They have those on Tuesdays or Wednesdays so I reckon I'll hear not next week but the week after.

This is by far the worst cold I've had in many years. In fact, I haven't had a cold for years. We've all been knocked sideways. Except DD who has just been sneezing and a bit bunged up. To her advantage tbh as I'm sure it helped the decision to go with sedation and not a general.

Oh my word Saul FlowersBrew

misdee · 22/09/2017 13:48

Hope you are all much better soon x

HillaryWinshaw · 22/09/2017 14:31

Good lord, you don't get a break, do you? Sending love and good health to you all.

PurplePillowCase · 22/09/2017 15:24

poor you. hope you all feel better soon!

I always tell my dc when they hang upside down from trees that they are not allowed to hurt themselves as I'm 'done' with hospitals :)

SandunesAndRainclouds · 22/09/2017 17:33

We all came down with flu / colds after DD was home and safe - I'm pretty sure it was just another exhaustion thing from having coped with the preadmission nerves, hanging on for dear life while DD was in theatre and then for the week after while she was in hospital.

Be kind to yourself, lots of rest and fluids. Thank goodness it's the weekend and no school runs to go!

WheresYouWheelieBin · 23/09/2017 03:33

What a rough ride, thinking of you all.

CiderwithBuda · 23/09/2017 04:38

I've just read all of this Showy/Saul. Sorry you are having such a worrying time. Your DD sounds amazing though.

CallMeDollFace · 23/09/2017 13:05

Well you learn something new every day- stridor. Never heard that before! The joys of parenting eh? Thank God for gin. Hope you are having a better weekend x

Eppia · 24/09/2017 19:40

You poor things. How is DS now? Flowers

whatsleep · 25/09/2017 20:53

Hope your ds is feeling better today

SaulGood · 26/09/2017 14:53

Thank you for checking in and asking after ds. He's just fine. Still got mild cold symptoms but no croup and he's breathing, sleeping, rabble-rousing etc as normal.

DD had her wound re-dressed at lunchtime and she is healing well. I was surprised by the bruising though. It's quite something. It was obviously more forceful than I had imagined. Nurse was happy everything looks fine though. She remains as calm and well as ever.

I was remarking to dh yesterday that none of our local shops have Christmas in them yet and it is a bit late for them tbh (I adore Christmas, sorry maryz) and DH said it's because Christmas is waiting for dd's all clear this year. He then went out and found me a new bauble because he believes everything will be just fine and it's okay to believe it. Silly and trivial I know but it cheered me a little. I hope he's right.

No nothing today but we were told definitely not this week as it's too soon.

My friend's cat is on tramadol. Reckon I can half inch a dose to tide me over?

ALemonyPea · 26/09/2017 17:14

Hope the results are positive SoH.

IIRC my DS is the same age as your DD by a few days. Think we were both on the same November post natal thread at some point, I had a different name then.
