DS still asleep, what to do?

DS is 15 months, been generally a bit grumpy for a week. Last night he was especially grumpy so calpol'ed him at put him to bed, he had a slight temperature. He hasnt woken since.

Waiting for an "urgent" call from GP nurse which will be this afternoon or possibly this evening.

Nothing specific, slight temp, was occasionally pulling at ears, decreased appetite. But he's completely un rousable, changed nappy with DD1 and 2 in the room jumping about and he just slept. He obviously is responsive because I've got a few oz of water into him and nurophen in him. But I cant wake him any more than that. So he's been asleep for 17 hours looks poorly but not collapsed. Occasional small cry but by the time I've got to his door he's asleep again.

So MNers should I call the GPs again, NHS direct or am I just wittling about nothing and let him sleep it off. DD2 has complex medical needs and I'm always on the ball with her getting her seen as appropriate. But a normal "abit unwell and sleeping child" has completely thrown me.

I am really pleased to see your update :) it sounds like he is getting terrific care.
Don't beat yourself up about not listening to mners straight away because when you look at the timescale, actually you did react really quickly to what people are telling you. It's hard, because instinct does tell you to let children sleep if they need it and I think that instinct kind of prevents you from trying really hard to wake them and until you've tried hard Id have thought it would still seem like needed sleep rather than unrousable.

It must be scary to be at home, but if you can eat and get some rest you will be in so much of a better position to look after him when they bring him off sedation.

I've been checking in my breaks at work all day today, thank you for taking the time to update us and I'm so pleased to hear he is calm and comfortable although I'm sure you would prefer him climbing all over that bed and needing the restraints of a cot!

I'm pleased you have help around and it sounds like it will be a slow process so please be kind to yourself, remember to eat and drink, take every offer of food being made and help with childcare there will be plenty of times over the years to pay your friends back for helping when you truly need it.

Have a massive viral {hug} I know we don't do these type of things but I feel you need it

fanjodisfunction · 03/01/2013 21:27

Thankyou for updating, your still be in my thoughts. So glad u have RL support.

RubyrooUK · 03/01/2013 21:31

So happy things are going well for your little DS, Clutching.

Don't beat yourself up about not noticing the chicken pox though - it sounds like he has just been very unlucky in his reaction. It is just so shocking how ill small children can get so quickly with so little warning.

Hope he will soon be home. Thanks for the update - I had been checking all day just to make sure. X

LadyBeagleEyes · 03/01/2013 21:32

I'm glad things are looking up a bit Op.
I wish I could give you practical help but I'm sure I'm nowhere near you, as I'm in the Highlands.
There may be others on here that can if you say where you are.

mama2moo · 03/01/2013 21:32

The doctors and nurses sound fab. At least you know he is being well looked after. Isnt it weird that chicken pox can be so serious for some children. I never knew it could be this nasty Sad

Look after yourself. Fingers crossed he is back home soon xx
