DS still asleep, what to do?

DS is 15 months, been generally a bit grumpy for a week. Last night he was especially grumpy so calpol'ed him at put him to bed, he had a slight temperature. He hasnt woken since.

Waiting for an "urgent" call from GP nurse which will be this afternoon or possibly this evening.

Nothing specific, slight temp, was occasionally pulling at ears, decreased appetite. But he's completely un rousable, changed nappy with DD1 and 2 in the room jumping about and he just slept. He obviously is responsive because I've got a few oz of water into him and nurophen in him. But I cant wake him any more than that. So he's been asleep for 17 hours looks poorly but not collapsed. Occasional small cry but by the time I've got to his door he's asleep again.

So MNers should I call the GPs again, NHS direct or am I just wittling about nothing and let him sleep it off. DD2 has complex medical needs and I'm always on the ball with her getting her seen as appropriate. But a normal "abit unwell and sleeping child" has completely thrown me.

Oh I read your posts back in January and thought I recognised the subject when it popped up in active convos just now.

Thank you for coming back and updating. DD had cp recently and I couldn't help but think of you then too.

Glad things are improving and you've a little break to look forward too, I do hope you all enjoy it!

Wow... I am shocked at the impact chicken pox had and in such a 'mild' presentation... I too had chicken pox like your son as a child (7 spots) put was so mildly ill that I had to have my immunity checked when I became a midwife.

I've preached for years about the dangers of chicken pox but really nothing could have prepared you for what has happened to your son. You are so strong and positive... an inspiration.

And massive respect to the advice given on the thread... I have hesitated - I called my GP when my son wasn't responding and they phoned an ambulance... all my training and I just wasn't sure when it came to my own and it was exactly as you said - he didn't seem that ill, just not right and responding slight but not normally - paramedics told me that its often the case and catches many people out.
My son had a chest infection, high temp and what I was witnessing was the beginning of a febrile convulsion - he came round really quickly and home later that day but it's etched on to my memory.

I hope DS continues to improve and you reach your goal for October - you should be very proud of yourself and your family.

Hello clutching and mini clutching. I often wonder how you are and how the little one is coming on.
Whenever anyone mentions chicken pox it makes me think of you.

Hi thank you so much for thinking of us, I pop back from time to time just to remind me how far we have come.

DS is a wriggly little thing now crawling, in a fashion, noisy little grunts and squeaks and while his left side is still weak he is still able to get around and bash toys around. We have changed to a PEG tube. Which is something I have resisted but lifes so much easier now. I wish we had it straight off. I've just collected his first pair of glasses this week and he's spending alot of time trying to loose them. He's character is really shining through. He seems to have escaped most bugs going round and hasn't had any real set backs. I'm petrified about him getting sick, so he doesn't get much chance to brew anything before I'm ringing the hospital.

Holiday wise we are all booked up and excited to go. The girls seem to think October will be beach weather and are counting down the days. They have been fantastic this year and I just want them to enjoy it so fingers crossed the weather will improve. It will be my first holiday with them on my own so its a real adventure for us all.

DS is still needing alot of care but he's such a joy to be around now. It doesn't feel as hard as it once was.

So all in all lifes looking good for us. DS is definitely improving and while life has lead him down a different path from most, he's enjoying life and is a very happy little boy. We still have a long way to go but everything's going right for is so far.

wow op ive just read this whole thread what a horrendous time youve had worrying for your boy. he is a real tough cookie like his mum! i have nothing great to add but just wanted to wish you and your boy the best. i hope he keeps up his excellent progress

Like Lurcher I have just read your thread and can't believe what you and your family have been through this year. What strength you and your little man have. If you can come through all of that with spirit intact you can do anything! So much luck to you all for the future. Have a lovely holiday xx

Hi - just read through this whole thread after a link from another great advertising a chicken pox party. Well first of what an amazingly strong woman you are! I would love to know how your little boy has recovered?
