DS still asleep, what to do?

DS is 15 months, been generally a bit grumpy for a week. Last night he was especially grumpy so calpol'ed him at put him to bed, he had a slight temperature. He hasnt woken since.

Waiting for an "urgent" call from GP nurse which will be this afternoon or possibly this evening.

Nothing specific, slight temp, was occasionally pulling at ears, decreased appetite. But he's completely un rousable, changed nappy with DD1 and 2 in the room jumping about and he just slept. He obviously is responsive because I've got a few oz of water into him and nurophen in him. But I cant wake him any more than that. So he's been asleep for 17 hours looks poorly but not collapsed. Occasional small cry but by the time I've got to his door he's asleep again.

So MNers should I call the GPs again, NHS direct or am I just wittling about nothing and let him sleep it off. DD2 has complex medical needs and I'm always on the ball with her getting her seen as appropriate. But a normal "abit unwell and sleeping child" has completely thrown me.

I was thinking about this just this evening. So glad it had a happy ending. I went from worried to terrified to crying at home on my own and now relief. Well done to you OP and MiniClutching and all your family and friends who have supported you. I think it's also so amazing to witness just how important a resource and friendship / support network MN is. Yes there's bitching and flaming but on this thread we have seen MNers help a mothe and family through a terrifying and draining time. Without it the outcome could have been so different. Well done one and all! xxx

Blimey, forgive me for going off thread a little, but I was advised by a GP to let my children catch chicken pox on purpose so that they got it over and done with.

I came on here asking for advice and was advised by very helpful mumsnetters to do no such thing for fear of rare but possible complications!

Your story OP has completely proved this theory! I am soooo pleased that your DS is now home and recovering steadily and I pray that he continues to do so.

Hi all, sorry I've not been back.

Just wanted to update, DS spoke for the first time todaySmile . I have noone else to tell but I am so happy, sat in his room and he made a "Dra" sound no idea what he wanted or what he ment but its his first sound since it all happened. He hasn't been crying so its the first murmur I've had since January.

He has some issues with fine motor and balance at the moment but we are hoping it will all improve. He still has a feeding tube as hasn't been able to take food normally yet. He's been assessed as being at 6-9months developmentally. So along way to go but he's had no set backs since being home and seems content.

Girls have been fantastic, they have been really positive and say things like, "Its nice he's a baby again, now we can teach him to walk again"

I'm having to sleep in his room because of his not crying and my paranoia but I'm just going through the newborn days again. Only difference is that he's a lot heavier and not holding his own weight means alot more with an 18month old rather than an 8 pounder.

But I'm planning a holiday for us all in the october half term so that's our aim to get DS moving and off the feeding tube for then. God do we need a holiday, only to the seaside but Its definately what we need and its great to have a focus again. Also stops it all feeling never-ending.

Just thought I would put this on the thread in case anyone pops back. Just had another read through and its upsetting but amazing as well that posters can support me through it all and drag us out the other end, god knows what I would have done without this thread and MN.

So glad to hear the news! And it's great that you came back to share on MN as you sound lik you have so much on your plate. Was wondering how you were all getting on just the other week.

Fingers crossed that the improvement continues now and turns from little steps to leaps and bounds and that you all manage to have a great holiday in October.

And roll on that first cry - if it doesn't sound wrong to be wishing your ds cries soon -but I can imagine that no crying at all must be very scary in your situation, so knowing that he can cry if needed would be a great relief...
