DS still asleep, what to do?

DS is 15 months, been generally a bit grumpy for a week. Last night he was especially grumpy so calpol'ed him at put him to bed, he had a slight temperature. He hasnt woken since.

Waiting for an "urgent" call from GP nurse which will be this afternoon or possibly this evening.

Nothing specific, slight temp, was occasionally pulling at ears, decreased appetite. But he's completely un rousable, changed nappy with DD1 and 2 in the room jumping about and he just slept. He obviously is responsive because I've got a few oz of water into him and nurophen in him. But I cant wake him any more than that. So he's been asleep for 17 hours looks poorly but not collapsed. Occasional small cry but by the time I've got to his door he's asleep again.

So MNers should I call the GPs again, NHS direct or am I just wittling about nothing and let him sleep it off. DD2 has complex medical needs and I'm always on the ball with her getting her seen as appropriate. But a normal "abit unwell and sleeping child" has completely thrown me.

Great to hear he is doing ok considering. Hopefully he will be on the mend quickly. Don't feel bad - as a parent we don't expect serious problems like this to happen to our children. You read about it and assume it will be someone else. My daughter ended up in intensive care 18 months ago and even as she was being transferred I still sat there thinking it couldn't really be happening to us and maybe it was an over reaction because this sort of thing happens to other people, not us. She made it thank goodness but she had a hell of a fight. The main thing is he is in the right place and getting the right care now and seems stable. Nothing you could have done would have changed the way things are now so there is nothing to blame yourself for.

Stixswhichtwizzle · 03/01/2013 22:06

Thanks for update clutching. This thread has played on my mind, I never knew this could be a side effect of chicken pox. I'm glad he's receiving specialist care and hope he comes round soon.

DollySisterMadeNoResolutions · 03/01/2013 22:09

Glad your ds is stable and getting good care. Thinking of you all.

ZebraInHiding · 03/01/2013 22:16

LucyLego · 03/01/2013 22:18

So glad to hear he's doing well. Try and get some rest xxx

PenguinBear · 03/01/2013 22:23

Really pleased to hear he's doing well, get some rest tonight op, hope DS feels better tomorrow.

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 03/01/2013 22:24

I've been thinking about you and MiniClutching all day and am so glad to log in now and find a positive update. Don't feel 'like a plank' OP; we all benefit from a second opinion now and again! The mere fact you started a thread shows you were already concerned. I hope you get some rest tonight and that his recovery is speedy.

maxmillie · 03/01/2013 22:25

phew! Glad he is being well looked after, sounds like he just needs time to recover from the virus. Can't believe a "mild" case of chicken pox can do that!

DontYouJingleMyChristingle · 03/01/2013 22:29

Glad to hear they are taking good care of him, will be praying for his swift recovery.

SleepyLittleSunshineGirl · 03/01/2013 22:31

Thank goodness he's doing well. I've been lurking all day, waiting for an update. Hope the wee one makes a speedy recovery Clutching

tempnameswap · 03/01/2013 22:41

Also checking in and glad to see that he is getting good care.

Remember you did the right thing OP despite having had awful advice from the GP surgery - it is so hard as parents to override that kind of advice to wait. There are so many difficult decisions to make, are we being paranoid and over-protective or is this the moment when you need to make more fuss? And not one of us operates with the benefit of hindsight. So please don't feel guilty about waiting - you got him to hospital and they have got him treatment.

Wishing you both a restful and healing night.

thegreylady · 03/01/2013 22:48

Thank you for update Clutching I hope tomorrow will bring better news again. Thank God you called that ambulance.

EllenJaneisstillnotmyname · 03/01/2013 22:52

Thank you for taking time to update us. Smile It can't have been high on your list of priorities. So glad he's making progress and his temperature is behaving itself better today. (((Hugs)))

drcrab · 03/01/2013 22:54

I'm so glad to hear that he's going to be better and that the drs at the hospital are on top of things.

Just wanted to add that cp is really quite scary - at least what it can do to children. My DS who is 4.11 now developed complications from cp which long story short led us to 6 weeks of a recurring fever and joint pain, a 30% loss of weight (at age 4.5!), 2 week stay at gosh and now weekly drugs that hopefully will bring him into remission from an autoimmune disease. So... Cp is really not the 'party' you want to be invited to!!!

DoubleLifeIsALifeHalved · 03/01/2013 23:07

I'm glad you are ok op, and your little one stable and outlook positive. You must be absolutely shattered and just bone tired & shocked. Look after yourself as well as everyone else yes?

SecretNutellaFix · 03/01/2013 23:11

Hoping he has turned the corner for you , Clutching and well on the way to recovery.
