Run in a straight line, Run round some bends, Run with your family, Run with your friends

Ready Steady Mo! is a fun action-packed rhyming picture book that will get kids reading, and running too.

Love getting the kids out as much as possibe, they're too small to be out on their own so have got together with another mum and they visit their friends and vice versa and have lots of play dates, puddle jumping is fantastic, as is collecting bits and pieces on walks and visits to the park and making scrapbooks when the weather is really bad.

Annbunce · 25/07/2016 20:36

Plan lots of fun activities each week over the holidays, with a couple of lazy days thrown in too ...

tamalyn1 · 25/07/2016 20:36

i love taking the kids crab fishing, its free and fun

cocochips · 25/07/2016 20:42

Lots of games and picnics in the great outdoors

Clairescottshug · 25/07/2016 20:42

sehunnie · 25/07/2016 22:41

Pokemon Go has really helped! lol!

lhlee62 · 25/07/2016 22:59

We have been going to the local parks since the weather has been so nice. I have also taken advantage of the local urban beach which is open until September. We have been using the local buses even though I have a car as they love catching the bus. We are probably going to the local splash park this week if the weather stays nice.

I'll get the scooters out too to expel some energy.

Nation Trust memberships are brilliant, we are lucky and have 3 pretty close which all organize holiday activities. Otherwise swimming is great exercise and not too expensive. For free we go for woodland walks looking for something we have read about in a book in the morning and then have a picnic lunch out. DS hates being indoors for too long so he also has his own little veg patch and we go and check and water his potatoes, lettuce etc daily.

park, garden, trampoline, PYO, Pitch & Putt to name but a few

rhinosuze · 26/07/2016 20:29

We like to camp and take the bikes (or trikes!) And also we walk to the park all the time. I also encourage her friends to come over and play in the garden which I'm really lucky to have. This year will be my daughter's first Olympics which I'm hoping gets her into sports

Tkw2014 · 26/07/2016 21:36

Like others on here we do the 10 minute shake ups every day. We also like getting out on bikes and scooters. I am lucky that I don't have to prize my 2 off the screen like some people do!

BrandNewAndImproved · 26/07/2016 21:47

I bribe them with ice cream to walk instead of drive upto the shops.

We have a national trust pass so have lots of long walks with another bribe of hot chocolate and cake or ice-cream.

We go jogging as a family! We do a 5k jog which involves jogging to the park, them playing while I go round the park a few times then we jog the long way around to the shops and buy an ice cream for the cool down walk home.

My dc also love bike rides. We biked 21 miles a few weeks ago. Luckily we have an excellent cycle track that goes from the city we live in to another city. It's interesting to them as it's along a railway track so they see trains plus there's a few stop off points along the river where we can sit and have a drink on the jetty. There's also a canal and a really good Park in the other city.

My dc are quite active and we share a martial art hobby. The classes still run in the holidays so we're there 3/4x a week.

The leisure centre also holds a kids only inflatable swimming session that they love so we go there once a week for that as well.

Here's a photo of us ending our jog with icecream

Don't let them sleep in every day it's holiday time fresh air is free. Walking is free.Try a ramble .Make a treasure hunt. Get them to use their imagination.Just enjoy !

windowmouse · 27/07/2016 09:47

We go for lots of walks with the dogs and I will be making good use of Pokemon Go app to keep them interested in being outdoors and doing lots of walking!

Cailin7 · 27/07/2016 21:42

out walks with our dog

pfcpompeysarah · 27/07/2016 22:02

We are lucky to live near a beach and harbour with lots of attractions and nice views, we tend to toddle on down there often and just enjoy the sea air, coupled with a nice ice cream and some ball games after to work off the calories. We also have a park nearby that has animals in it and we go to see them and then have a 'mini picnic' after if the weather is nice enough.

buckley1983 · 27/07/2016 22:49

My little boy has suddenly got very competitive - so it's all about races & winning in our house! We've painted a track in the garden & we've tried as many races as we can think of - walking, running, skipping, hopping, running backwards, jumping.. I thought 3 legged races might be a BIT much for a 3 year old (there's a strong chance of me ending up squashing him!) - but we've had a good giggle while doing it & it's a bit of exercise for me too! :)

crapfatbanana · 27/07/2016 23:07

We have spent the week staying at my mum's and she has bought the children (my four and my sister's three) some garden games, which have been a hit. They have played with skipping ropes, hula hoops, those Velcro catchy ball things, and some mini traffic cones to do wheel barrow race obstacle courses with. My daughters have spent lots of time doing handstand practice. We hired a bouncy castle one day and today made sock bubble blowers and played with the garden sprinkler.

juju3 · 27/07/2016 23:09

Try to find an ongoing project to keep them occupied on and off during the whole summer break

SauvignonPlonker · 27/07/2016 23:14

Very easily! DS is 7 & sports-mad! He does a 1/2 day sports camp every week. We do something active almost every day from tennis, to Playpark, to scooting/bike, swimming, you name it! He has loads of energy. I'm attempting to tire him out!

crapfatbanana · 27/07/2016 23:16

We are lucky to live in Cornwall and have a wealth of outdoor oportunities on our doorstep, which we will make the most of when we go home. We will probably spend time with friends playing by/in the river, on the moors, in the woods, at the park and on the beach. We also have a biggish overgrown garden, good for den building and generally getting mucky. Pots, pans, buckets, sticks, spoons and watering cans keep my littlest two happy for ages.

SuzCG · 28/07/2016 08:43

I insist that mine help me take the dog out for a walk every day, regardless of weather - and once a week I allow scooters and once a week bikes to vary it up a little and make us do different routes. I also try and get one of those walks to be to the local playing fields where we'll take along a football and they can play in the goals together while I run the dog around the field.

They get bored of just playing together all the time so I make sure I go out in the garden with them too at some point every day - and play a bit of cricket or badminton with them.
I also try and keep their swimming up. Lessons stop throughout the school holidays - so I try and take them at least once a week myself.
My daughter's dance school runs a 'Summer School' for one week too where they go every day, learning dance routines to put on a little show for parents on the Friday. This will be her third year of doing this now. It keeps her busy and active for a week, lets her make new friends of differing ages - and gives me a bit of time to just do something with the older one, which is nice as that doesn't happen very often once there are two.

jandoc · 28/07/2016 13:41

we visit relatives and try to do different things every day

Emgrace · 28/07/2016 20:28

We have booked onto a lot of fun activities at our local children's centre and go to the beach and park lots

badgermum · 28/07/2016 21:03

We are lucky to live by the coast so a lot of the school holidays is spent at the beach or going on walks along the south west coastal path
