Hello all
I have been reserving library books to read to DS that I enjoyed as a child.

I was wondering if you would be so kind to re-jog my memory of more book by letting me know your favourite stories if you were a primary school child in this era.

Many thanks!

Brian Jacques, I was obsessed with the Redwall series. I even wrote to him to express my admiration and that I hoped he'd never stop writing..

Hygellig · 24/05/2016 21:20

I'm remembering so many favourites with this thread! Swallows and Amazons, the Redwall series, What Katy Did and the Ramona books. Goodnight Mister Tom and Back Home both shocked me in different ways.

Fantastic Mr Fox

Justtrying · 30/05/2016 22:08

Most Roald Dahl, especially Fantastic Mr Fox, Famous Five and Mallory Towers as I got a little older. Then anything by Judy Blume, I was lucky whilst I wasn't allowed to watch much tv, I had adult library tickets from a young age so was popular as I was one of the first to take Forever to school. Also enjoyed Charlotte's Web, Anne of Green Gables and all the Little House on the Pairie books.

As a young adult/ teen I discovered Len Deighton and Tom Clancy, long before I saw any films associated with their novels.

Milly Molly Mandy

I loved that there was a map of the village printed in the front and back of each book. That poor girl rarely left the village.

The Weirdstone of Brisangamen - one of my favourite books ever. Although I credit it with giving me lifelong claustrophobia due to the descriptions of Susan being caught in the dwarf mines in a hairpin movement, her mouth filling with sand...
shudder
