We have 24 squares to fill. What lines get trotted out on every thread that discusses the child free?

My suggestions:

1. You'll need my children to be your carers when you're old
2. Only parents understand real love
3. Childfree people shouldn't take annual leave in school holidays

Yet you get the posters gleefully pearl clutching how Sharon in accounts thought she was more tired with her newborn twins, the ignorant fool. Except, critically, Sharon with her very off the cuff, casual remark doesn't know the poster is nursing a dying parent.

I was in a situation with a friend, who knew my circumstances (I'd taken on a new, exhausting job where I was fighting to keep people's jobs and working 6 days a week, 12 hours a day with a broken arm). But her 18 month old child (with a 16 hour per week job, 5 day's a week childcare + partner) was still more tiring. And my workload plus temporary disability was irrelevant apparently.

I distanced myself, and then watched her complaining on FB how having a child isolated her.

That's the kinds of comments we are reacting to. The sweeping assumption that all parents are always going to be tireder than all childfree people.

In my experience (see above post) it's more than the actual calibration of levels of exhaustion. Women with children are always more tired because women without children are by definition selfish and immature.

It's the two main Bingo statements combined.

In my example just above, I think my friend unconsciously/subconsciously assumed that because she was doing this "selfless" and important thing - having a baby (it's not, it's quite a selfish thing to do in reality) she was always more justified in claiming Top Trumps with tiredness. By definition.

I like the idea of using cute animals to bypass the derailers. With any luck the one we had yesterday has hopped off to be obnoxious somewhere else.

Apparently, zoos put them in enclosures with other animals because the former are so placid.

It's a wonder they can raise the energy to point out all our faults.

That's what spa days are for. Staffed by attendants who are childfree, because mothers would be too tired.
