We have 24 squares to fill. What lines get trotted out on every thread that discusses the child free?

My suggestions:

  1. You'll need my children to be your carers when you're old
  2. Only parents understand real love
  3. Childfree people shouldn't take annual leave in school holidays

Round cats are the best, but red pandas standing up and showing you their scunchable little tummies are a very close second!

InceyWinceySpidy, possibly part of people's issue with your posts is that, yet again, we're being told we don't know true tiredness, real love etc. It, yet again, diminishes the experience of the child free - we're somehow not as worthy. The board is specifically aimed at women who are childfree for whatever reason, yet here you are, detailing your experiences as a parent.

We're all fully aware we don't know what it's like to have a child - heaven knows we're reminded of it in myriad ways on MN and in society generally. I think it's nice that we have this small corner to have a bit of a chat about our experience.

I love red pandas! And normal pandas.

I also really love raccoons.

Jeezuswept · 01/07/2023 11:41

why the uproar when this very simple concept is pointed out

@InceyWinceySpidy

It's okay, you can chill out, childfree people really don't need you to point put that they don't have children.

I'm pretty sure we know we don't have children. In fact, weirdly, I think a lot of us actually chose not to have children.

But I'm sure your parental voice telling us we don't have children, is super helpful. Perhaps just in case we forgot, and had left one or two somewhere?

Racoons are amazing and an important part of the panda triangle - pandas, red pandas and trash pandas

My nephew has a red panda toy that I am allowed to cuddle if I am a very good auntie and let him cuddle my penguin toy from when I was little

Not sure about cat overlords. Their powers are significant and need to be confined.

I reckon golden retrievers would make wonderful leaders.

Let's face it, cats are going to use their powers for evil.

On the subject generally of floofy overlords

Look at the grumpy little wild cats that have been released in scotland, look at that face! So grouchy and I still want to boop the nose

@Catchasingmewithspiders I’m glad they’re not doing that near me as I think I’d be the idiot mistaking it for a lost house cat.

They’re so gorgeous!

EmpressaurusOfCats · 01/07/2023 12:30

I’m taking a break from cat fostering until September because I have to be away a lot, but I’m really missing it.

as some other posters think they get to police other people, and bully or patronise until they push out anyone who doesn't fit their narrative

It's almost like you haven't noticed where you're posting. Childfree board, for the, guess what, people who don't have children. People are policing it because this is the second attempt in a couple of days to tell us what childfree-ness is/isn't/should be and we're doing it all wrong - and it's pissing people off.

I mean, that's a lovely speech and all. You've given yet another perfect example.

No one is pointing out "you don't have a child." But then you know that, don't you. It's this constant pretending that people are saying things that they absolutely haven't. Why?

You aren't stupid. You read the post. Clearly saying, "someone who hasn't experienced xyz, doesn't know how xyz feels....is that a reasonable statement?". But yet you feel the need to post a completely irrelevant rant about something different, pretending it's the same thing.

It's baffling. I only see this behaviour in two places. And please understand only by a minority, but it's there every time. The first, is on child free threads/discussions. Now demonstrated three times on this thread alone.

The other is the special needs boards. A very similar thing. I have an eldest SN child. And the level of judgement, daily difficulties, and red tape is exhausting. People who make comments, which whilst not malicious or from a bad place, are thoughtless. And I see that similarity between the majority of child free posters and SN posters, in that they know they receive unfair treatment by the majority of society. And it's shit.

However there are always one to two, ever present on the SN boards, who also, make statements like "oh, so you're saying all disabled people should be locked away then, because we're such an inconvenience." And the rest of us look on, like wtf are you on? No? No one's remotely said that, why are you trying to invent things just to be professionally offended by your own invention? It's a shitty enough situation as it it, without some posters making us look like we'll create issue when there is none. All this does is show people there's no point trying to understand how to make improvements because even if you can improve A we'll immediately fabricate B, just to have something to be offended by.

It's hard enough, trying to educate, and help people understand, or make improvements, without certain people just making the group look like we're just here to be irrationally and illogically defensive about anything. The important points get diluted. On both boards.

Anyway, new thread being set up for further comments...

Every time someone engages with a derailer, we are giving them what they want. They're not here for a reasoned debate. We are not going to win them over, or make them see our viewpoint. They are here to goad and disrupt so, when we engage with them, we are handing them a victory.

I wonder how quickly one decides to domesticate a nearby human for its own comfort 😂

InceyWinceySpidy · 01/07/2023 12:51

It's not about "winning"

It's about not fabricating things other people are saying. But don't let that get in the way of your excellent pictures.

Yeah, sorry. Can't even to be arsed with reading the latest offerings. IMO there's a deliberate attempt the last couple of days to take this board over and tell us where we're going wrong, for some reason.

Who are you all friends with who put so much time and thought into why you do or don’t have children?! Beyond small talk and getting to know people where you might ask about their family whether someone has kids or not generally makes no difference on our friendship or relationship. I think when you have small kids and spend a lot of time doing child-related stuff it’s hard to see out of that bubble but when you work etc and continue your social life kids just become part of your life like everything else but not the centre.
Sorry you get judgement and a load of negative comments. No need.

That kitty looks a bit like my younger one (who also likes shoving her nose in the camera).
