IMHO some people have gone batty

Some of the mad ideas I have read on here in last couple of days

Bonkerz the lot of them

How they treat their nannies or au pairs

They work long hours for not much pay.

There are some very fair parents who are working hard AND treat their au pair with

RESPECT

KINDNESS

But others

who spend all their time finding something to moan about.........

Why can they not treat them the same way they would like their DD to be treated if she wanted to become an au pair?

Would they want their DD to work in same circumstances?

LOOKING AFTER CHILDREN IS THE MOST IMPORTANT JOB IN THE WORLD

THEY ARE OUR FUTURE

It is also the best job in the world and the most fun,

seeing their faces when they have completed a jigsaw puzzle

learnt how to build a tower with 3 bricks

Please remember to treat others as you would like to be treated

.......

Oooooh RTKM, you little stirrer! I feel almost responsible for this thread as I directed a comment at a poster yesterday and then it all took off!

RTKangaMummy · 21/04/2005 14:12

RESPECT for the ones who look after CHILDREN

Whoever they are

"CHILDREN ARE OUR FUTURE"

OK, call me Batty, but here's a proposition.

Although DS is the most important person to ME, I do not think children are the most important people. Not mor important than other human beings - those we call adults. More vulnerable, in need of care and love an attention, but not more important.

Suppose certain viruses mutated to infect particular age-groups only: pre-pubescent children, adults, or v old people. Suppose you are a scientist pumping out, in a race against time, an antidote, but you only have time to develop and distribute the vaccine against one of these viruses: everyone in the other 2 age groups will be wiped out. The elected politicians and your lab are charged with protecting the interests of the human race for generations to come.

However you feel, your only responsible choice is the middle adult group. The children will not have the skills to keep themselves and each other alive without any adult support, the v old will not be able to reproduce. The middle adult group will have the skills and experience to keep the world running, the food being grown, and (grief stricken tho' they are) a good proportion will be able to reproduce and create a new young generation.

A proposition, miles away from our 'feelings' perhaps, but I'm afraid I usually need to look twice at generalisations about importance.

hub2dee · 21/04/2005 14:31

RTKM, you are in good form today.

and WWB, if you think you can just snurkle back onto MN without a great big thread , think again.

donnie · 21/04/2005 14:36

what a weird and wonderful thread ! you are right Kanga - there are certain people on MN who seem to expect the earth from their nanny/au-pair etc but want to pay them the lowest wage possible. You have done very well in not getting angry and rising to the bait! btw Ameriscot your point that ' if childcare is a vocation, why the fixation with money' is an excuse to pay low wages to anyone in any position considered a 'vocation'.

RTKangaMummy · 21/04/2005 14:37

Ok Blu you are batty but actually very sensible

What I actually meant was children are the most important people

More important than everything inanimate or even kangas or owls

But I do believe that what we do and teach our children will come around and influence the future.

And so CHILDREN need to be guided to become kind, helpful and honest adults.

So those responsible for doing the teaching and guiding should be given all the respect from others that is possible.

donnie · 21/04/2005 14:38

and also your comment that they can walk away or not accept the job etc - well there are a lot of people out there who NEED a job and cannot afford to turn down an offer of work! not everyone has the luxury of shopping around for a wage that delights them, not in the real world anyway.

bossykate · 21/04/2005 14:39

RTKangaMummy · 21/04/2005 14:45

Donnie what amazes me is the boasting that comes from some of them

like it is clever

Uh no, it isn't, it just shows you for what you are

But those who know better can then
