I searched the archives as we were often bumping into each other. Don't need any cm.... sprog not here yet, plus one / both of us will be at home, but was impressed by your good attitude to your work.

You mentioned the emergency first aid for kids that I think dh / probably you as well had done. Was it with St. John / the Life Saving Assoc ?

Only ask as being v. forward thinking and well prepared - would be great for dw and I to do.

Also, saw your post about your ds, and wondered if all sorted ref: consultant and fits etc. If you do need to ever see a named consultant they often have one main secretary (if they work at different hospitals) and you can v. often pay to see them. We don't have any private medical, but when dw / me have needed to see a specialist it has cost about £80 -£150 and we'd usually get an appointment within a week or so, if that helps.

Finally, did you always have an interest in cm, or only since kids ? I ask as dw is a teacher (secondary, as I mentioned), and if we want to stay at home (each / both) was wondering about suggesting this as a possibility...

Saw an XC70 yesterday. Might be a compromise instead of XC90. Didn't look so 'in yer face' . Out for dinner now - not being rude if don't respond.

First Aid for childminders was from Red cross both DH and I did it.

When I was a teenager I wanted to become a nanny. I was a nanny for 3 years in London then 3 years in Canada

So it sort of followed to become childminder

So I could stay at home with DS he was at playschool in the mornings,

When we went to consultant about Dyspraxia he said that DS was ok atm and there aren't any tests or drugs they would give him.

Will look into the red cross course as I presume it is that one that meets accreditation for cm. There was a thread about the Life Saving Society one (I think ?) where a trainer comes to your house and you can gather a group of people.... it was in our area too. Anyway, thanks for the info.

OK, the Red Cross has three child-oriented first aid courses:

First Aid for Child Carers (CT-FAC)
Basic First Aid for Care of Children (Appointed Person) (CT BF3)
Save a Life (Infant) (CT - SLI)

Did you do one of those ? (The second and third courses apparently have no training days in London / Kent from Feb onwards that I could see - possibly their database is broken).

They also do one for teachers which dw might want to do, but don't know if she wants the extra responsibility this may imply at school...

No what I said in reply to your comment about the height of XC90 compared to BMW was that all my family are very tall so the height would be good rather than length.

we had 7 seater 850 and didn't very often use the 2 extra ones so there isn't much point for us to have the 7 seats atm.

I expect for our next one we may get XC90 for the toys it has

Yep. Downloaded the Red Cross Brochure and the course is 12 hours (over two days or you can do six blocks of two hours) for 130 quid - only 90 quid outside London !

... quite a bit steeper than the Life Saving Assoc one which works out to about 15 quid per person in your house for 4 people, and the trainer can present to up to 20 people but that would be a squeeze... Still, the Red Cross course is obviously longer and therefore covers much more info plus it's accredited by the NCMA if one of us were ever to go that route

Didn't realise the XC90 has even more tools than the XC70 you sad gadget hound I'm sure you're car is already fully loaded!

I like the lack of toys: less to break (except GPS, that's gotta be a must on next car unless I get funky PDA / mobile with GPS built in). On the Saab there is a button called 'Black Panel' - turns off all interior dash lighting / dials at night (except speedo) for stealth mode !!!

XC90 has TV screens in back of seats

GPS [mine is called RTI] is absolutely brill

tells you loads of stuff like if you want to find the cinema in strange town it will find it, supermarkets, bowling alley, petrol, hotels, car parks, swimming pools, shopping centres, tourist sites.

You just put in the town and it will find it and take you there.

Definate must is the TV on dashboard

Also the integrated telephone system with extra handset in arm rest.

Fridge and heater box for the boot is brill too plugs into 12V and is fridge or will keep hot like takeaways and even when bought into house unplugged will keep hot or cold.

DW stays well away at the mo. Maybe she'll come on when she's more pregnant, not sure... she thinks we're all saddo computer nuts, LOL, maybe that's why ! We're due end July / beg August.

I run a 73 chrome bumper MGB which I need to sell as only has two seats. It is currently over-wintering in parents' garage in Ealing. About to get evicted so must get onto it ASAP.

DW and I run a Saab convertible. Very nice car as it can seat four (at a push), quiet as anything at speed, and fantastic for when the sun comes out. With the hood down I can also fit in oversize building materials when needed. Again, need to sell as only two doors, but tempted to keep as second car until sprog can walk / get in seat etc. but that is probably not terribly sensible. Probably will ditch both and get C8 (or similar) or maybe a flash Volvo . Could just end up with dad's 5 series BM estate (older model, all wheel drive, but not dw's fave).

The disappearing seats on the XC90 is good. The Chrysler Grand Voyager does this too but the C8 doesn't

Careful with the TV on dashboard or you'll crash when Desperate Housewives is on.

Ref: Integrated Phone System with extra handset - why don't you go for a handsfree bluetooth system and just pair yours and dh's phones ?

We have bluetooth mobile headset thingys as well

but this way everyone in the car can talk

the controls are on steering wheel and dashboard

also the sound system goes auto into mute when phone rings

the mirophone is in the rear view mirror

so you just talk normally and the sound comes out from speakers or from speaker in headrest.

It has a little draw thing in dashboard for SIM card

Yeah, I joined the 'due in July 2005' thread before our dates got pushed back one week, and said hi... I guess it's just not dw's thing. Also I type faster! It is fairly odd being on a nearly 100% women's chat network, but I wanted to get the low down on so many things: prams, nappies, pregnancy, childbirth etc. etc. that I've found it v. useful.

The C8 is a Citroen, yes. Fiat / Peugeot / Citroen all worked on one chassis together so there are three cars which are virtually identical on the market.

So, your SIM card in the dash means your car has its own number ? That is cool... but don't you / dh always end up phoning each other's personal mobile numbers first, and then trying the car second ? Could just add to frustration ? Personally, I hate mobiles and gave mine up years ago, but will have to get one soon to keep dw sweet

You must be able to hack the 3mph / when stopped feature on the Volvo TV. Bet some geeky hacker has figured out how to do it !

The TV would really be dangerous if picture was there over 3 mph, it ends up like listening to a radio. The map comes on the screen when driving or can cancel it and screen goes back into dash board.

Anyway, Saab shape is a bit odd. Infact I dislike the older 'fastback / coupé shape a lot, and the saloons aren't much to look at, but I think the convertibles are OK. There is a new 'sportswagon' shape coming out which should be quite funky.
