I got the letter through today explaining rates and everything my son only got awarded till 2025😔 so does that mean I can apply again in 2025 or is that all he gets? Also doesn't say anywhere when payment starts jast says Wednesday so don't know if that's tomorrow or in 3 weeks time! They are never clear on anything are they!

Debs243 · 06/02/2024 21:10

@Holllymum No I haven’t had any texts but I’ve had 2 letters x

I'm at approx 15 weeks. They've said another 3 weeks to get to a decision maker then another 1-2 for us to receive a decision. They said the estimated timeframes are about bang on at the moment. Just wanted to update so it might save anyone else an hour on hold!

Emma2345 · 06/02/2024 21:18

@Amycroft they seem to be giving only 1 year awards to people lately , I got awarded for my son July which was from a claim march last year till march this year you usually recieve renewal forms 4-5 months before the claim is due to end so I recieved them around September / October if you don’t recieved yours 3 months before the claim is due to end ring up and request them,, i rang up today to find out he has been awarded again but only for a year so his claim will end in march 2025 so that means I willl have to apply again for the 3rd time it’s a joke in just over a year I will have done 3 forms xx

Especially after the wait for dla itself, you'd think they be more helpful wouldn't you...

@Mrssnee16 im not sure if it’s because we don’t have a formal diagnoses yet which is why it’s only a year or maybe due to his age as he is only 20 months old I am going to look into if I can contest the length of award as I’ve never heard of anyone doing it before xx

OP posts:
Emma2345 · 06/02/2024 22:39

@Mrssnee16 im also worried that I run the risk of loosing my award altogether or rate being reduced when asking for a mr as it will be a different CM who looks at it ,, and just based on the length of award I am unsure if this is possible ,, but it is all so stress full I don’t think I could go through all this again for the 3rd time in just a few months time having to fill in papers and gather even more evidence ( would you recommend me sending all reports and severe asthma nurse reports daily medications excetra with an appeal asking them to look over the length of award )& possibly get the gp to write a letter saying that the length of award is short and they don’t believe that his care needs would change within the next year ? thanks in advance x

It can't hurt to send in any additional evidence in hun, this is my first time doing a claim so I understand not wanting ro add any additional stress xx

It could possibly be due to your little ones age, my son is 3 and he is on the asd waiting list, is only definitive diagnosis so far is for global development delay xx

Geordiemam33 · 06/02/2024 22:55

@Emma2345 thank you. Xx

Emma2345 · 06/02/2024 23:03

@Mrssnee16 ok Thankyou ,, yes maybe depends on age I am currently waiting for my nearly 3 year old too (3 in march) we are on the asd waiting list and he has global development delay non verbal as well physically violent at nursery and home doesn’t interact with staff or children at school and very minimal interaction with me or his siblings at home very over stimulated and sensory excetra I will probably get a decision around march April time so depending on length of his award it will make more sense if it’s down to age my friend currently gets it for her son without diagnosis and she got an award for 3 years for possible asd so I wonder if it possibly could depend on age if he only gets a 1 year award I will deffo appeal x

@Emma2345 If you are happy with the award rates and just not the time period I probably wouldn't do a MR personally. It will still be lots of work and stress and as you said, may not go the way you want it to. When you do their renewal you can likely copy a lot of the previous information from your original application (providing care needs haven't significantly changed) and add any additional evidence. Renewals are as shorter wait than new applications too. So all in all it probably isn't much more work (if any) to do the renewal vs MR, but without the risk. A thought also, they may have given a year due to kiddo's age as they can award mobility from 3 years.

Emma2345 · 06/02/2024 23:20

@PixieBach yeah I agree and we’re likely to get his diagnosis after 2 years of age so that will be June so I could always send that diagnosis report in and a bit more evidence and they may then look over the award at that time and Increase the length of the award and yes he is on HRC so the max he can get anyway and again wouldn’t want to loose the award or decrease the rate for the sake of it only being a year award x

My son is exactly the same apart from the violence, he's not in school yet as I don't think he is anywhere near ready so I am doing the ehcp process myself xx

Hi. I called for forms on 13 September with deadline for DLA to receive them on 23rd of October. I send by recorded delivery Thursday 19th and got proof of delivery on Friday 20th of October. However it was not scanned until 8th of November. Will DLA still honor that they received forms on time? Even though they weren't scanned until more than 2 weeks after?
