@RosiesMummyx aw hun I’m sorry this must be so hard.
mom glad we have somewhere to help each other! I only found this group by googling dla wait times haha. I’m glad I did.
good luck to all. Here’s to more waiting and anxiously checking my phone every minute lol x x
youd think I’d know about dla with my son having type one diabetes. I was given mrc for him but I fought an mr and won hrc. As we’re up each night correcting or injecting him. He’s 11 and we do 90% of his injections.
but with my daughter her needs are a different level with her behaviour as an 8 year old I really believe she’s adhd or something x

RosiesMummyx · 20/11/2023 20:41

@Clairexdx oh that’s how I stumbled upon this group too! Haha.
good to have somewhere to go and have a read and know I’m not alone in this new world I’m now in.
It so hard waking through the night etc to do, especially when they depend on it. Like my daughter, she can only manage a small amount orally, so I have to Ng feed her to ensure she doesn’t go into failure to thrive. She’s 7 months but only 12lb 13oz. But I had read on another thread weeks ago someone had posted that they knew someone who’s child was Ng fed and they didn’t get awarded and were told it was because they didn’t feel their needs greater than a child without special needs. So it was disheartening to read so now waiting and hearing nothing, I can’t help but feel a bit flat as I’m sure you feel the same too! X

@RosiesMummyx Don't be disheartened as hard as it is. My DD is 8, and I'm sure we'll get a decline, we've been through it before and done Mandatory Reconsideration and the decision maker was upheld i.e. we didn't get awarded. I have a friend whose son was declined for DLA every year until he was 10 despite very obvious needs that have slightly improved over the years.

RosiesMummyx · 20/11/2023 21:11

@MangoPepsiLover thank you x I think I have to just try and see it as what will be, will be. But hopefully I’ll hear either way this week and the agonising wait time will be over haha x

my claim is for my 8yo daughter. Who I suspect has adhd of some form. School are on board with me. But she masks at school and doesn’t do anything at school. So it makes me think il be declined. She does Elsa class at school and emotional support class. And school have put a bit in the dla form. But I am struggling at home. I have 4 children. My eldest is type one diabetic. And I have my daughter letdown after meltdown. Screaming. Random words. Fighting with her sisters. I know it’s way above an 8 year old of her age. The amount of times I have to tell her and encourage her to do things is unreal. She’s anxious and has no time awareness. She picks at her fingers. She doesn’t listen to a word we say. We’ve tried over and over dif things. To help. I’m just lost. With dla I was hoping to get a private adhd assesment as Nhs wait times were looking at 2 years.
sorry for my rant. There is so much more than this btw x

You could've near enough described my daughter there, she masks alot at school, picks her skin around her fingers to help her concentrate, always forgetting something, can get so over emotional at the least thing, she always zones out in class yet unfortunately schools view of ADHD is someone who can't sit still and permanently disrupts the class, apparently 'they can't see it' yet they filled the 1st lot of forms in then the ASEBA forms and she was accepted onto the pathway, it's been 1 year upto now we've been waiting, so whatever the school has put they've accepted her! Shes so impulisve never thinks before she speaks or acts, no sense of danger on roads just walks out, doesn't stop moving can't just sit unless she's doing something, she has major sensory issues and each morning is a palarva with her wether it be me not getting her socks perfect straight across the toes, not of cut a label out, the stichting stabbing her, the feel of something. She has severe constipation since birth too, anxiety and plantarfascitis. She's 9 yo, she did see ADHD specialist when she was 5, who told me she hasn't got it yet, but could get it when she's older but she's got a very mild learning difficulty due to the lack of oxygen at birth, an yet here we are again! The waiting times for everything is a complete joke!

Clairexdx · 20/11/2023 21:51

I hope tmw we may get some answers. Good luck all x

@Mumzieof1 I suspect my DD has a genetic condition, she was tested aged 2, but nothing came up and we were told she may show signs as she gets older.

Low and behold in the last 2 years she's been diagnosed as Dyspraxic, and Joint Hypermobility Syndrome she's also suspected either ADHD and/or Dyslexic and most likely has Auditory Processing Disorder. Allconditions associated of the very genetic condition she was tested for at 2.

I've said in the unlikely event we do get DLA (I feel it's very unlikely now) I will persue private diagnosis for the condition because if she has it she will need an EHCP for secondary because it's a condition with changing and variable needs. Right now she's fine, but Years 2 and 3 she was on and off support plans at school due to it (again symptoms/parts of the condition).

RosiesMummyx · 20/11/2023 22:16

@MangoPepsiLover yes I believe it’s hard to diagnose, my daughter first set of karyotype genetic bloods didn’t show anything abnormal, but then the more in depth microarray ones showed her to have a partial duplication on one of her chromosomes. But it sounds very similar, as my daughters is rare and there isn’t much info about it. We were just told that all of the issues she had so far are explained by her genetics and then we’re just given things to expect from her condition but then severity is unknown and we have to just watch and wait. But they are developmental delay, intellectual disability and behavioural issues. So hard the unknown, so must be so difficult for you to feel your daughter may have a genetic condition and it not yet be diagnosed x

@Mummyrach13 Can I ask how long was it from you informing UC of change and asking for backdate til you actually got decision and letter about amount owed. Thanks. Xx

Mummyrach13 · 20/11/2023 22:38

It will be 3 weeks tomorrow that I asked for backpay @Raych1989 i had the first letter this Morning from the DM saying it was accepted then the letter with amount this afternoon saying they will pay it into my account so guessing I will see it in 3-5 days x

RainbowZebraWarrior · 20/11/2023 23:00

@MangoPepsiLover is it EDS that your daughter was tested for?

Raych1989 · 20/11/2023 23:01

@Mummyrach13 Thank you. I'll be 3 weeks Friday so I'm hoping I hear something around then. So stressful. Think I'm just so over waiting after waiting for decision from DLA. x

Mummyrach13 · 20/11/2023 23:11

It definately seems like a long wait @Raych1989 especially after the long DLA wait too, hopefully you will hear around Friday too. X

Does anyone know once we receive the backpay from UC with the money from DLA and our own money do we have to report it to UC if over 6k, I read that it’s disregarded for a year but weren’t sure as its been in the account the same month. X

OP posts:
MinnieL · 21/11/2023 00:44

@Mummyrach13 if you have money they owe you then it’s disregarded for 12 months. Say you had 5k savings and 1k backpay from UC, it’ll still be disregarded for 12 months as it’s the backpay that pushed you over the threshold.

You can leave a message on your journal just letting them know, for peace of mind. But you’d have the proof due to bank transactions anyway so you’re good

Mummyrach13 · 21/11/2023 00:47

Thank you @MinnieL/pink muscato I thought you may know, it’s more the fact we had a big chunk of DLA and now the UC, there’s not over 6k in there now as we have purchased things for my son, but combined it would have been over that but it’s more the backpay money than my own If that makes sense xx

OP posts:
MinnieL · 21/11/2023 00:54

@Mummyrach13 ah yes so it’s the DLA backpay combined with the UC backpay (and a bit of savings) that would have taken you over the 6k threshold.

You’ll be absolutely fine as both amounts are amounts that DWP owed you. If they were able to give it at the time then you probably would have spent it anyway! That’s why they give you a year to do what you want and they don’t look at it as you trying to decrease your capital.

There’s a paper trail to show where the money came from and that it was money owed to you from DWP. So if there was ever a review on your account, they have that information to hand:)

Mummyrach13 · 21/11/2023 00:57

Brilliant thank you @MinnieL you explained it in simple terms to what I had thought. If we were getting it monthly it wouldn’t have mounted up.
Thank you for your advice as always ❤️ xx

@Mummyrach13 yeah, exactly that. Sometimes it’s just helpful to speak with a real person to get some clarification instead of clicking on 20 links online trying to find a straightforward answer😂

Always here to help though! Hope you have a good night x

SarahHmumof3 · 21/11/2023 06:28

Woke up to find my sons dla backpayment in my bank so he must have been accepted! Scan date 14/7, haven't received anything from them since the no need to call text in October.
Does anyone know if I receive a letter outlining the rates or do I have to call? I'm also on UC and wanting to update ASAP to avoid any issues!
