That’s exactly what I thought, so seemed pointless, especially when the careers allowance is only backdated 3 months anyway

If you dont get or claim LCWRA, then just update the "who lived with you section on your childs records" and update the "caring for someone" section. That will trigger the carers element on UC. Then ask for both to be backdated on a note in you journal, just make sure you select the "payment" option before you update your journal xx

Mumrobyn4 · 01/03/2023 10:18

Hi, so what is the difference between claiming carers allowance and claiming the carers element. I'm confused 😂

AnxietyMumma · 01/03/2023 10:29

@Mumrobyn4 my date on my forms is 8th November. They weren't scanned til 20th December. I've been told I won't hear anything til the beginning of April at the earliest

AnxietyMumma · 01/03/2023 10:31

@lillysmammy what is LCWRA? I can't work it out lol

Mumrobyn4 · 01/03/2023 10:46

So that'd be around 14 weeks, sounds roughly the same as most have waited.i posted mine on 17th December recorded delivery because of all the strikes and they received it 22nd December xx

Mumrobyn4 · 01/03/2023 10:49

Limited capacity work related activity I think 🤔

Hi, so what is the difference between claiming carers allowance and claiming the carers element. I'm confused 😂

Carers Allowance and Carers Element are practically the same thing. If you dont claim UC and claim tax credits you would apply for carers allowance. If you claim UC you would claim carers element. If you claim carers allowance on UC, they will deduct whatever you receive from carers allowance to the £1, so in effect theres not point because UC will take it off your monthly entitlement anyway. Carers Element will be part of your monthly UC award x

AnxietyMumma · 01/03/2023 10:31

Limited capability for work and work related activity. Its what you claim if you you have a disability or illness preventing you from working or looking for work. If you claim it you are sent for a disability assessment like you would if you claimed PIP. You get an extra £340 per month on your UC award, but claiming this prevents you from claiming the carers element on UC

Mumrobyn4 · 01/03/2023 10:54

Aw thank you yes I'm on uc so would make more sense to do that rather than carers allowance x

CMVB · 01/03/2023 10:58

Worth remembering that carers allowance is paid weekly and universal credit is obviously paid monthly so if anyone struggles to get through the month that £69.70 weekly would come in handy. It’s not really pointless to claim because you would either get it as part of your UC (so not deducted) or you’d get it paid to you weekly. You can claim both at the same time. I do.

Yes put the carers allowance you get paid weekly just gets deducted as an overall deduction from your monthly UC award, so it is kind of pointless because you are not better off.

CMVB · 01/03/2023 11:34

You’re getting the same money whether it’s monthly or weekly? Surely it’s just what suits the person better - monthly or weekly payment?

ChazD27 · 01/03/2023 12:10

CMVB · 28/02/2023 16:32

@ChazD27 The renewal form was a bit smaller if I recall. Not by a lot though still hell to fill in! My sons forms were sent to me 20 weeks before the claim was due to end and I think I sent them back with about 15 weeks to go. Didn’t get looked at until 2 weeks until it was due to run out which was anxiety inducing but perfectly normal apparently! xx

That’s good the form isn’t the best is it! That makes sense I’m glad they send the forms out so I don’t need to remember or stress too much about it all until then. I guess the claim ending a day before the 5th birthday gives us a chance to apply for mobility, if eligible it’s good that they can start it from a future date. Thank you for your help x

I've not commented before. I sent forms for my daughter in around 17th Feb to arrive by 21st but I didn't send recorded because the post office was closed. Worried now they won't have received them and I'll never know. They sent the wrong form first so was a few weeks behind anyway. Gutted! Wish I sent recorded delivery but the envelope was prepaid. Did anyone else send in the envelope it came with?

Hopefully they have received yours. I sent our daughters on 10/2 in the prepaid envelope and phoned yesterday to see if they had received them and they say they haven’t. I’m absolutely gutted purely because of all the personal info. The woman said it can take 2 weeks from Royal Mail delivering the forms to the building to them being scanned onto the system but I don’t have any hope at all.

It's a shame they don't state that on the form. I would have sent recorded. Gutted now because I had letters from OT etc that I included. I do have copies but I sent the original as it was written for them. Hope they let you know they have yours soon!

I sent mine originally with the freepost envelope, sent them on the 9th october but the form wasnt scanned on the system until 23rd November, I would give it another 2 weeks and give them a ring to see if they have received it x

@lillysmammy That’s really helpful to know, I sent forms on 10/2 and they haven’t received them yet I’m so worried because of all the personal details within the forms. The woman told me it can take 2 weeks for them to be scanned on the system

I completely agree if I knew I would have sent recorded, I didn’t think it would be necessary 🤦🏼‍♀️ it’s scary how something so important can be misplaced and there’s nothing we can do about it. We are similar we have consultant and physio letters it’s all very personal. I’m sure they will receive yours soon, thanks fingers crossed!

Dotty765 · 01/03/2023 12:35

I sent my forms Thursday last week recorded they got them the next day as I saw it was signed for on the Royal Mail
Called them Monday and the lady said that they was scanned onto the system on Friday the 24th so the day they received them and to wait for a letter. I hope that's the case as they needed it by the 28th which was yesterday 😭

87SPD · 01/03/2023 13:07

UPDATE - I have just received a text message saying my child qualifies for Disability Living Allowance. My form was scanned on 28th November so around 14 week wait for the decision. I am based in the Midlands.

I am not sure on the rates, just calling now and on hold but my DD has ASD recently diagnoses aged 12 and I just sent in her SEN pupil passport from school along with the diagnosis report.

Wishing the best of luck to all still waiting!

@87SPD congratulations on being awarded

87SPD · 01/03/2023 14:26

@AnxietyMumma and @lillysmammy thank you!

I have just called the helpline and the man I spoke to was so friendly. He advised that DD has been awarded HRC and LRM until 2027 when she will need to transfer to PIP.

We will be receiving a back dated payment in the next 5 days, this has been backdated from the date I called for the forms.

So happy the wait is over. I am pleased with the award rates as I didn't feel I sent in enough evidence initially.

Hope this gives some hope to others and wish you all the best possible outcomes for your DC

xx

Hi everyone wondering if anyone can help .. scan date 11/11 .. has been with DM for two weeks and no update ..called this morning and all they could say was still with DM .. I had put on the form for them to contact school to gather some information so I’m wondering if that is maybe the hold up and if that’s the case .. do they have a time limit on how long they give school to respond? I am in Scotland and so unsure of what is taking them so long with my sons application 🥲thank you and congrats to all who have been awarded what their children are entitled too 💕x
