A new thread for those waiting on DLA claims as the other one was rather full. @girlmum25

My scan date was the 29 June and I’ve just received a letter to say that I need a phone call assessment in October before they make a decision. Is this normal?

Oh gosh I've not heard of this before?

Strangerthings4NW · 30/09/2022 14:57

@kateof2 inam in belfast so maybe that’s why. I think wait times here are much longer.

Jo197 · 30/09/2022 14:59

Called today, been with the DM for 2 weeks and they said that’s really not supposed to happen it’s usually less than a week so they’re going to email the DM and see what’s going on

xams · 30/09/2022 19:08

Thank you.. when do you receive the first payment? I'm presuming it'll be Tuesday/Wednesday? I did try and ring when I received the text, but had to get back to work so hung up. X

Pollyley · 30/09/2022 21:48

Hiya. 30th of June here also. My anxiety is awful waiting..really hoping for a response soon, his extra care needs cost us so much money.
Are the replies being given Ince the current award runs out maybe? My child's is due to run out end of Oct. But the renewal form was scanned in on June 30th. Any idea when I may get a letter. Thanks

sadiekt21 · 01/10/2022 08:10

I rang yesterday and they said another 4 weeks! I can't believe it lol. Do they only pay on a Wednesday or can the first amount be paid on any day?

Mine was scanned on the 5th august so we are looking around the same time!

DLA renewal sent off 14/7 for a 14/10 deadline. I keep hoping it will come through any day now. I'm dreading it tbh. My DS was on HRC and LRM. As he's older, things have changed. I'm hoping for MRC at least, so can still claim Carers.

What a shitty time to be awaiting a decision, with the cost of living rising so high.

Hi,
I hope your lunch is a bit better than mine. Mine is a renewal and was scanned on the 23rd of June, due to expire on the 12/10 and so far I’ve heard nothing.

Sarahjlk · 02/10/2022 16:01

Hey guys so glad most have had successful claims.. I haven’t had my award letter as yet with the strikes ect but does anyone know how the mobility aspect works.. like my boy turns 5 very early January, my claim was scanned 21st June the decision made 23rd September.
he was awarded HRC care only, confusing question really but I thought they looked at low mobility 6 months before or do i have to go through the whole process again when he turns 5. I feel they’ve totally overlooked the mobility when they’ve awarded hight rate care, obviously that extends to outdoors and that’s were he’s at his worst sometimes.. impulsive, hides from loud vehicles, runs in the road, throws himself on the ground in middle of road, no awareness at all which could impose danger to life, will gladly speak to strangers.
im just wondering whether to MR based on the mobility. Just don’t know if i have the wait in me again.

I just did a MR for a child exactly the same age. Initially only awarded MRC, no mobility on the basis that he can actually walk. He's now been awarded high rate for both. The mrc payments continue until a decision has been made.

Sarahjlk · 02/10/2022 16:28

@FishFingerSandwiches4Tea
thank you i might give them a ring tomorrow and ask the relevant questions. I'm wondering if it is because the original date was just over 6 months before he turns 5.
but going off citizens advice website he fit’s all these so they could of considered HRM.

DLA wait times september 2022
FishFingerSandwiches4Tea · 02/10/2022 16:44

@Sarahjlk when you do your MR explicitly say you feel that the smi/vuw criteria were not considered and that you are requesting that they are. Good luck

Sarahjlk · 02/10/2022 16:46

@FishFingerSandwiches4Tea thank you for the advice what do the abbreviations stand for 🙈 how long did you wait for the MR?

FishFingerSandwiches4Tea · 02/10/2022 17:08

@Sarahjlk smi = severe mental impairment, vuw =virtually unable to walk. Are you on the DLA fb group (not official DLA, a page for people applying). There are flowcharts that show you what the criteria are to be awarded.

FishFingerSandwiches4Tea · 02/10/2022 17:09

@Sarahjlk forgot to say, decision was exactly 4 weeks from when they received it, although from the fb page people are waiting longer

Sarahjlk · 02/10/2022 17:26

@FishFingerSandwiches4Tea
thats brill thank you. I will have a look now.
definitely going to ring in the morning ask and possibly get the ball rolling. I will pen a letter just in case.

Kage87 · 02/10/2022 21:20

@FishFingerSandwiches4Tea that is amazing news I don't suppose you know where to send the MR ?
Still awaiting decision letter but worked out from payment its only mrc and he has mobility and behaviour as well as sezuires and sleep apnea red flags for asd aswell as being held back a year at school for his development ..... feel like being taken mug of. Any advice?

FishFingerSandwiches4Tea · 02/10/2022 21:36

@Kage87 ring them tomorrow and ask them to send you a statement of reasons. This will explain how they arrived at their decision. You then write a letter requesting a mandatory reconsideration, explaining why they're wrong. If you have any evidence that you didn't send originally you can include that also. So for example, my statement of reasons said that my child qualified for middle rate care as although there were night time needs, they were in line with peers. I asked the neuro-disability nurse to write a supporting letter stating that that was not the case. If you don't have access to a nurse like I did, evidence from school/nursery about him being tired in school, or being late/missing school as a result would also be appropriate. It doesn't need to be pages long, think mine was one side of a4, just argue with their reasons of that makes sense. Bullet points would be fine. It's the same address that you sent the form to.

FishFingerSandwiches4Tea · 02/10/2022 21:39

@Kage87 just to add, although it feels like a slap in the face, amongst my child's specialist nursery cohort, we were all awarded middle rate care only on first application. Two of the mums have done a change of circumstance form and now get higher rate for both elements, and obviously I've just got it at MR. The cynic in me does wonder if its deliberate...

Chay123 · 03/10/2022 07:18

Morning 😊. Hope today brings good news for you and your families! If anyone rings up today and manages to get someone who tells them the date that they’re working on, (only some seem to give that info) then please update us 🙏🏽 Thank you 😊xx
