Wow that's incredible! she barely made a noise at all, so calm!

Chellesgirl · 25/02/2010 15:40

that is amazing! I think she is incredible to remain soooo calm and just bring baby up herself...personally I would love to do it and when we do one day try for another DC will def contemplate trying to do it all myself - but would love DP to catch and bring to me

just incredible isnt it!

CharCharGabor · 25/02/2010 15:46

Ahhh that's a lovely video and just what I needed to see (due on Sunday and planning a homebirth) Am not expecting to be that dignified, I wasn't last time

Chellesgirl · 25/02/2010 15:55

my fave! www.youtube.com/watch?v=4grRewQ-AQ0&feature=related

soremummy · 25/02/2010 15:59

It might appear awesome but its one of the most frightening things that can happen to you especially those first couple of seconds when they just stare at you and don't make a noise. Regarding the catching side of it i caught her head and dh managed to catch her body as she fell out! Even though he told me to calm down that the baby wasnt coming that quick. He always listens to me now

Chellesgirl · 25/02/2010 16:00

soremummy share your story!

Narketta · 25/02/2010 16:05

I had an accidental unplanned homebirth with DD now almost 2yrs.

First contraction at 6.15am 2nd contraction at 6.25am so thought we had loads of time to get DS to MIL and me and DH go to the hospital, But then the contractions started to come one on top of the other, I called for an ambulance but had to pass the phone to DH because I had to push. DH took instructions from the operator and delivered DD on our kitchen floor at 6.59am.

Chellesgirl · 25/02/2010 16:07

No way Narketta a seriously quick birth! How did it feel, can you remember, was it frightening as it wasnt planned or did you feel really empowered?

soremummy · 25/02/2010 16:09

Thought I was starting in labour / niggly back ache like period pains. Got in bath had a cup of coffee had a slight contraction got out thought not slowing this down. Went into bedroom told oh think im starting in labour had a massive contraction needed the loo didnt make it thank god as my waters went with a massive gush. Told dh to get me midwifes mobile number from downstairs so i could ring her i had another cointraction and felt her head pushing in my knickers shouted him that this baby is coming now! He had the cheek to tell me to calm down lol. But his face was a picture as he jumped accross the bed and managed to catch the rest of her as she fell out. Me with my knickers still above my knees and nothing else on just inside the bedroom doorway.

newmomma · 25/02/2010 16:11

wow chellesgirl thats pretty amazing... she's so quiet and calm - its like its not even happening!

keep them coming i love these 'positive' videos...

soremummy did you give birth alone too? i can imagine it is terrifying in the first few seconds like you say. the lady in the video just coped so well, calm and quiet and letting her body do everything it should i wanted to share it.

you can see she looks a little 'shell shocked' though holding her newborn in her arms.

do tell your story...?

sorry cross post...

I know we are talking accidental unassisted homebirth here but can I caution anyone considering "going it alone" to think very carefully about this. As midwife I was privileged enough to be present for many "birth" days both in hospital and at home. I have also been unfortunate enough to witness mother nature at her worst too (thankfully not too often) and sometimes lives were only saved due to prompt medical attention.
Oh and there are some inspiring stories and videos out there - beautiful.

Narketta · 25/02/2010 16:12

I felt fantastic!! so much better than after the birth of DS 2yrs earlier.

Poor DH was in a worse state than me he was grey and shaking afterwards, he's told me that if we ever decide to have another DC i'm being booked into the hospital 2 months in advance

It still feels surreal like it happened to someone else.

soremummy · 25/02/2010 16:14

We reckon that it was 4/5 mins from getting out of bath to holding her. Had been on the phone to work just as i got out of bath. The only other thing that gave us an idea of time of birth was ringing the ambulance who asked Is your wife comfy? Can you see the head? He just very calmly said Im holding the whole baby lol. They asked what it was and he said a baby!!! Neither of us thought to look! We ended up having 2 midwives and an ambulance with a crew of 2 and a rapid response vehicle.

JollyPirate · 25/02/2010 16:16

Ooops - posted too soon. Meant to say that there are beautiful videoes and stories out there to show how wonderful birth can be.

Scary though when it happens quickly and a Mum is unprepared.

Narketta · 25/02/2010 16:16

soremummy And I thought I was fast!!

CharCharGabor · 25/02/2010 16:17

Agree with JP though the videos are beautiful. Deliberate freebirthing is not for me at all and I will be glad to have midwives at my birth. I would love to have such a relaxed and positive birth though

Chellesgirl · 25/02/2010 16:18

To jollypirate I would never 'freebirth' which is the name they have given to it...and although very beautiful i could not risk anything going wrong i.e baby needing oxygen. But I am planning on my future birth to be an unnassisted birth whereby the midwife does not touch me unless I ask her too, and where by she may even be asked to leave the room...of course Id make sure my mum was in the other room so they coul have a cuppa just after my hospital experience - homebirth is the way forward for me.

soremummy wkd! honest..scary but very inspiring.

narkeeta id be so proud of myself if I was you

soremummy · 25/02/2010 16:21

It took me months to get over it! I ended up in hospital with her on neonatal because she was so small. They did write on my notes that i seemed shell shocked. My body just took over I had no control over what happened and this time didnt get chance to bite hubbies hand whilst having a contraction. I would never ever recommend anyone do this alone. We were lucky for some reason i cleared her mouth and she started crying but we didnt wrap her up enough/ or quickly enough/ or she came that fast she was also shocked but she was just over 30.2 degrees and verging on hypothermia. Sorry for typos shes on my knee doesnt want me typing about her i guess

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 25/02/2010 16:25

this is amazing, from the one born every minute clips

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 25/02/2010 16:25

She is so amazingly calm, and the dads reaction made me all teary

Chellesgirl · 25/02/2010 16:26

yes well thats the reason why I would never have a freebirth ...but I guess sometimes like you, it just happened..and there wasnt much you could do about it. It is great that we have the medical teams that can assist when needed.

Narketta · 25/02/2010 16:27

The shock didn't set in for me until later when I realised how lucky we'd been that everything went without a hitch. Me and DD spent 1 night in hospital and when we came home me and DH had a good cry.
I'm so proud of DH.

I'm so glad everything turned out ok soremummy How old is your DD?
