c-section a must, if refused i'll need to pay, advise on getting c-section on nhs or paying the nhs in wales, or private c-section in wales

a c-section is a must for me.
i am really worried that i will be refused one on the nhs. if so i have to have options. can i pay the nhs to give me one? really want to have my baby in wales too which restricts me as it seems more private c-sections are done in London.
Does anyone know of a good private hospital in wales (south in particular) and how much it would cost?

Many thanks for your help.

So pleased for you that you can now relax and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy.

I hope everything goes well for you with the surgery and for your baby.

I also hope that your outcome gives confidence to anyone else who might want to follow the same path.

Qally · 14/08/2008 15:31

Ema, that's fantastic, and good for your consultant in supporting your right to choose.

I hope you have a very happy pregnancy, an easy and safe birth and a gorgeous & healthy baby.

youcannotbeserious · 14/08/2008 15:52

Ema - So pleased it went well...

FWIW, the tone of your message sounds so much happier, now that you have the weight off your mind!

I hope the rest of the PG and the birth are absolutely fine...

My CS was a wonderful experience and I'm glad that you will be able to progress your PG discussing it with your consultant.

colacubes · 14/08/2008 15:58

Glad all went well for you Ema

You may want to take a look at this birthplan to help you write one for your CS to make the day more special.

EustaciaVye · 14/08/2008 16:17

Glad the appointment went the way you wanted. Good luck eith the remainder of your pregnancy.

midnightexpress · 14/08/2008 16:26

That's handy VS, I'll use that as well.
Offtopic a bit, but to everyone who has had a CS, either joyfully or grudgingly (!) anyone know whether staples are better than stitches? Heard conflicting reports. And is it ok to state a preference or are there (say) medical factors which indicate one or the other? Should start a thread about it I know, but too lazy.

youcannotbeserious · 14/08/2008 16:32

I had dissolvable stitches and I was perfectly happy with my recovery and the scar.

that's as far as I can comment - I didn't get a choice but never asked about it either!

Ema76 · 14/08/2008 16:38

there are pictures of cs scars on the web and they state whether staples or stitches.

caesarean.org.uk/ScarPics.html

it has pictures of the wound initially, in the early weeks and healed and infected scars.

apparently some staples can be long and therefore uncomfortable.

when i had my hernia op i had stitches inside the wound and glue on the outside. but don't know if that would be an option for cs. glue was great.

Well, I don't want to start telling them their job or anything, and I wouldn't have thought of it myself but it was mentioned on VS's sample birthplan. And now I think back, although staples sound awful, like something off of Frankenstein's monster, now I think back I think I read someone said they were good. Maybe I'll ask my obs and she's great but you never really know for sure if you are getting a balanced opinion [overly suspicious icon]

Oblomov · 14/08/2008 16:42

LadyThompson thank you for your previous post. Thank you for expressing so eloquently what I phrased so badly.
By the way, I was apologising for my awful choice of words, to OP. Not what I was actually saying.
I still beg Op to have some counselling for her fear. I would beg anyone to have counselling for a fear, whether it was birth/baked beans/or whatever.
I was not and am still not asking her to change her mind about having an elcs. I am glad she has got it agreed.
Like Cote'd, i really don't mind how someone gives birth. I couldn't care less. Really.

I had a great Cs. And I started a thread the other day , about elcs birth plans, where I was ponted in the direction of VS's great birth plan. I intend to use this this time, to make me CS even better.
Isn't the staples or disolving stitches, or whatever, down to the particular Ob that sews you up ? I don't know.

LadyThompson · 14/08/2008 16:44

Glue! Wow! It's a new one on me. I'll take a look at the pics, though I reckon scar healing is a complete lottery...

midnightexpress · 14/08/2008 16:44

LT, I had dissovable stitches both times and had small problem with healing each time - a litle spot where the stitches split (same place each time) and it took much longer to heal properly than the rest. Not sure if it was me over-exerting myself (esp 2nd time, when I had a rather lively 14mo as well as a newborn )or anything to do with the stitches).

I too wasn't offered a choice, and frankly at the time wouldn't have cared, or had an opinion so no idea about the alternatives.

colacubes · 14/08/2008 16:45

I had staples with my first and stitches with the second, staples were better by far! IMO

Oblomov · 14/08/2008 16:46

At Kings, I had one of those that the MW pulled out, after a few days. Great. No problems with scar. But I too think that recovery is all individual and has not much to do with whether you have staples, disolving, a pully with beads on the end , or whatever.

youcannotbeserious · 14/08/2008 16:47

Oops! I'm talking out of my backside!

Mine was glued!!! I have no brain!

Ema76 · 14/08/2008 16:51

was your glue great too even tho for different op? youcannotbeserious

No sweat Oblomov. Anyway, I was called everything on a thread about two weeks ago, and it seemed to cause huge offence to some people (which was amazing to me, cos I am so easygoing and laidback) when I was in fact only being flippant, so er, I know how it goes It got really personal, as well! I still love Mumsnet though.

I might try and do some more research into this. Cola, what was good about the staples? Have you had stitches another time?

Though no doubt I will end up being given what's cheap and handy, after Mr Bean has done the incision

edam · 14/08/2008 16:56

Glad the consultant was understanding, Ema.

MatNanPlus · 14/08/2008 16:58

Blimey Ema76 you had a busy time of it.

I am pleased that your consultant has agreed to the ELCSand you can now plan for that special of all days your DC's birth-day

Peachy · 14/08/2008 17:04

Ema Glad you got the CS sorted

I do thnk counselling would help- because you might just go into prem labour and really, it's worth a shot!

However I toatlly agree with your right to choose, I chose a HB and somehow that choice seems to get more support on MN than a cs- not sure why (did notice someone on here supporting elec cs who was anti hb for fnancial reasons though )

Anyway, ime thw Welsh maternity services are pretty good compared with the ones where I used to live, you should be OK. Good luck.
