Has anyone had a labour that's just not that painful?

I am having regular contractions, 15ish minutes apart (but closest together only 2 apart!), but... they're just not that painful! I know I have quite a high pain threshold and these definitely aren't BH, but not sure what to do at this point. Just wait until they're intolerable and then start thinking about the hospital? For various reasons I'd rather not have a homebirth... (difficult last labour with OP baby, parents are docs and violently opposed so although personally I love the idea don't want to stress them out...)

yes but he's not a baby who will stay still for cuddles and feeds and he doesn't do those cute gurgly noises where i pretend he's having a conversation with me.

or keep you up all night, or not let you eat your dinner, or make you type one-handed cos he cant bear to sleep in his cot he has to do it on mummys lap .....

nappyaddict · 20/04/2008 00:11

ticks to all 3 of those. well not to the sleeping on my lap but he can't beat to let me on the computer without turning it on/off/on/off/on/off

Hello! Don't expect anyone to be up, but thought y'all deserved an update. Contractions suddenly 3 mins apart so went to hospital, where obviously they slowed down massively . No pool available anyway so maybe for the best... am fully effaced and 2cm dilated, they wanted to keep me in because of history of quick labour - showed me to a bed in a ward and said DH had to come home. Now a) I am now feeling much more ants-in-pantsy and can't stay still, and b) I love my DH very much but I just don't trust him to wake up to his phone! So we argued and are now back home under strict instructions to get back to hospital when it gets really painful. Now ctx seem to be about 5 mins apart so I think I'm in for a long haul but feeling pretty good about it. Hell, I can always sleep tomorrow when the baby does... oh hang on, I have a 2 year old...

anyway - here I am for posterity! Think I'm going to watch a movie while DH sleeps on sofa until I poke him VERY HARD and we go back. Will keep you all posted.

YOU ARE ALL WONDERFUL! I feel very lucky and extremely excited.

Good luck Scampers!

Scampmum · 20/04/2008 02:45

Thank you! Found SATC on Paramount which is what I was watching when I went into labour with DD - figured that was a good sign. Ctx 10 mins, though - maybe I should go to sleep? don't feel I could, too much adrenaline I think.

Scampmum · 20/04/2008 05:50

still pretty manageable but around 4 mins apart. have been lying down and kind of dozing but can't sleep through ctx. think will go and clean teeth then wake up dh who will have had a good three hours. feel strange mix of tired, calm, and excited. thinking a lot about dd and how she'll be when she wakes up.

so very very different to what I envisaged! hope I get a pool...

Ooh! I'm very excited. Well done for arguing with the hosp, I wonder if it might have slowed things down a lot more had you stayed in.
4 minutes sounds good! Remember to keep weeing, that can help speed things up or at least it can help prevent it slowing down iyswim!

Keep strength up - diluted juice or ribena or such is good. I was sick in my second stage but not in a feel-sick kind of way, just physical pressure so it didn't matter much - but nothing was there as I hadn't really eaten, thankfully. I felt quite shaky though so should have had a sweet drink at least. You need to feel strong.

Best of luck pet, it all sounds great!

ImflightbutIcantlogintoday · 20/04/2008 06:30

Btw did they tell you which way round the baby is?

laura032004 · 20/04/2008 06:38

How exciting Try and rest to keep your energy levels up.

moominsmummy · 20/04/2008 08:58

Scamp -so exciting - any more news? Well done for getting out of the hospital

I am not due til Friday but have had bad backache for last 12 hours -ow!! and have 3 hour car journey to endure today - hmmm

do have BH about every 15 mins but they aren't painful-it's the backache that's bothering me - have taken some paracetemol - but can a TENS machine help with this?

(probably nothing to do with baby or labour at all just years of bad posture catching up with me)

any advice welcome!

ImightbeLulumama · 20/04/2008 09:08
