Has anyone had a labour that's just not that painful?

I am having regular contractions, 15ish minutes apart (but closest together only 2 apart!), but... they're just not that painful! I know I have quite a high pain threshold and these definitely aren't BH, but not sure what to do at this point. Just wait until they're intolerable and then start thinking about the hospital? For various reasons I'd rather not have a homebirth... (difficult last labour with OP baby, parents are docs and violently opposed so although personally I love the idea don't want to stress them out...)

I saw a birth video on youtube of a woman who was positively enjoying labour. The baby's head was crowning and she was chatting cheerfully.

I'm going to do that. Then I will give a little cough, and the baby will pop out. And it will be all clean and tidy and BF immediately with no problems. [deluded emoticon]

Its a shame we cant have built-in baby timers (imagine little egg-timers, the old sand-filled ones) then when egg-timer has ran out, Baby pops out. Would make things so much easier for us all!!!

Scampmum - good luck for through the night!!

Scampmum · 19/04/2008 20:27

ok starlight, will do that and give you all a live update... (sorry one-handed as on phone to MW)

I know, is quite scary. My friend, who is a non-MNer is expecting same time as me and she knows none of the usless very important information I have acquired from MN.

Tried but stairs too narrow for two of my clodhopper feet - did it kind of diagonally. Had a contraction during going up and downstairs but had to stop for breather as am fucking unfit after 4 months of SPD!

Good luck scampmum, hope it stays not hurting too much!

Scampmum · 19/04/2008 20:44

No, Lulumama, stay! MWs said call when I have say 4 or 5 5 minutes apart (rather than the odd pair) and then head in - do you agree? What can I do now to chivvy them along?

Yes I do have birthing ball, what shall I do with it?

Sorry for being so clueless...

LOL! You've just made me snort my tea in very unladylike fashion!

GOOD LUCK SCAMP!

Off to spend quality time with DP now, very grudgingly.

Bainmarie · 19/04/2008 20:51

Oh, this is exciting! Hopefully will be reading all about your new baby on April thread soon!

neolara · 19/04/2008 21:03

Very, very exciting for you! (And us!)

Another one here whose second labour was actually OK. Only about 30 mins of it being really sore (well sore enough to use gas and air) and the rest was very manageable. And once the head crowned, I kept reminding myself about all my friends who had talked about 5 minute second stages. Sure enough, 5 mins later, there he was - my lovely boy. So it is possible (although I do know I was very, very lucky to have had such a positive experience).

Yes, am fine! Just had two about 2 mins apart but they're still really manageable, talkable through etc. It's so weird! We are all watching Doctor Who on replay. Was just saying to DH, though, that I have all the other symptoms of being in pain (irritability, wanting to move around, not wanting loud noise), just am not really feeling the pain bit.

DH keeps saying 'I want to help, what can I do?' and then I ask him to do something and he a) questions my motives and then b) does the opposite.

i was the same sqounk. i was on the monitor cos i had been induced. the mw said are you in pain? i said no, why. she goes well can't you feel that? i said feel what? and she goes well according to this monitor you are having huge contractions so you are coping really well, well done. i was like well done for what? i'm not coping with anything it doesn't hurt!!

ImightbeLulumama · 19/04/2008 21:10

i would just go with the flow

you can smooch and have some nipple stim if you want

or just sit on your birth ball and rock

how far away is the hospital?

DON'T drink the vodka !

Oooooooooo ... live labour chat ... how exciting. Maybe after months of SPD you're being rewarded with pain free labour .

Good luck Scamp! I'll keep checking up on you.
